  • LIVE from the NYPL | Recorded live at the New York Public Library, Celeste Bartos Forum, on January 19, 2012.
Pakistani writer and filmmaker TARIQ ALI and film director OLIVER STONE will continue their ongoing discourse about "forgotten--or deliberately buried--episodes" from American history from the US intervention against the Russian Revolution to the ongoing interference of the United States in Pakistani political affairs. In their recent public dialogue, On History, Oliver Stone asks, according to Jon Wiener, "smart questions about the rise and fall of the United States and its empire in the 20th century." In this conversation, the tables are turned as we ask Tariq Ali to kick off with some questions for Oliver Stone, leading into a conversation between them on politics, film, and the untold history of the nation.

I had a 22 year old boy say to me and I quote" what was the Cuban missile crisis"? and then said didn't the war in Vietnam only last like 2 years ,I do not know what history teachers curriculum is today but it appears to be failing Its sad because if the youth of today spends all their time on tik tok and and geting only information from smartphones and not from the men and women who survived the war and the times then are youth and all of us are doomed to make the same mistakes the cost will be to high. I am greatful to this channel for broadcasting this content and opening the door for historical discussion and thanks to Oliver stone for always having guts and educating himself with both sides and views like he does on all of his projects. you can tell and see his work in film and project choices come from his heart for the record I am not trying to speak bad about America's youth because it can not be all thier fault but the youth of today must hear both sides of historical life changing event like Vietnam the Cuban missile crisis just my opion.

Agreed. Two legends both coming to the same conclusion from different sides of the spectrum. I really have to bookmark the NYPL website. It’s hosted so many great talks over the years and I live only a 15 minute subway ride away!
It’s actually one of the most stunning buildings in Manhattan with 2 gorgeous lion statues in the front. Across the street there’s also the main conventional library which is several stories high.

58:97.. Yes, Henry A Wallace was a "capitalist", but he was very much anti-monopolist. * He believed in well-regulated markets, without which would lead to high concentrations of wealth and power.
    * He was a self-made successful business man. His "Hi-Bred Corn Company" became a multi-million dollar enterprise.

How much physics was involved in the Kennedy assassination? How much mass? Even if you include the car it was less than 10 tons.
How much weight did the 105th level of the North Tower of the WTC have to support? What about the 5th level? How much steel was in each level of that 116 story building? There were 6 basement levels.
Try finding data on the steel and concrete on each level. Structural engineers in the nation that put men on the Moon cannot talk about that in public.

As a Greek, I can tell you that we are so very tired of seeing the USA using all its power to stop my country from achieving its full potential and development. Greece and Cyprus are engaging with China in the global economy. It is fitting that two ancient civilizations collaborate to forge genuine friendship and cooperation for mutual advantages, setting a commendable example for humanity. No other small nation rivals Greece's impact on human advancement. China & Greece FIRST are Beautiful 💙🇬🇷

I remember when Trump visited Greece and lecture Greece and Cyprus about funs for US-NATO. Following the events involving Kissinger, US-NATO, the British, and Turkey in Cyprus, where invasions led to the loss of lives, homes, and land, we expressed to Trump that it was inappropriate to lecture on NATO when NATO and the US government had damaged Greece and Cyprus more than it had helped them. We held Trump accountable for these actions. I also recall how we told Trump how Americans in Hollywood portrayed orange ape and monkey characters in the movie "Planet of the Apes" very effectively. Everyone laughed at Trump. I don't think Trump will be visiting Greece ever again.
Trump thought he could fool and school the Greeks like he does with the American idiots.

Mr. Stone in this video talks of London streets being cleared of people as W. Bush and wife Laura do a photo op out there. I was there a day or so before, with Ron Kovac (BORN ON THE 4TH OF JULY) leading the march against Bush's visit, during which Bush punked Tony Blair into getting British troops involved in the second war on Iraq.. It was a chilly November Thursday, a working day, yet 150,000 of us were in the march, and we were cheered on by school children, construction workers, shoppers, residents from central London to Trafalgar Square. I have published a feature article about this day. If you want it, please contact me. Dale Reynolds writdale@gmail.com
