- One of the more obscure and advanced topics in Tekken, chickening allows you to counter parries with additional buffered inputs. Aris explores some reversals on airborne moves at the request of the chat afterward, so I left it intact.

soggytoast111 Well, Chickening is very old and most people don't use parries/reversals in real matches, only Asuka scrubs. Most of the time you can launch or do a decent combo against parry spammers instead.

That's also a legacy thing. There's TH-cam videos of it since Tekken 3 if I remember correctly. It's the same sound used when you pick up a chicken in Tekken Force mode

For moves that use 1+2 or 3+4, it's based on which limb your character is actually using to attack. E.g. Kazuya SS 1+2, if you step left it's a left chicken, if you step right it's a right chicken.

Good explanation on chickens. I remember them back in Tekken 3, but I thought you had to have mad reaction skills to pull it off by looking for the reversal. I never knew you could just buffer it and enter the command even if your original command wasn't reversed. I think one of the reasons why I've been a Paul and Jun/Asuka player for all these years is because they were the characters who had reversals way back in Tekken 2.
Oscar Kazama and Sir Gay Dragunov can't do sick reversals then huh...
Nina has a special animation when she counters Mishima's Dragon uppercut as well

For 1+2 and 3+4 moves it depends on which limb is grabbed by the opponent. Also, to chicken a reversed deathfist you need to press uf+2+4 instead of f+2+4

So THIS is why chickens were in Tekken 3! I wondered what the hell that was about - I thought they were just going crazy Japanese!
Also, I did wonder if it was a dynamic between Nina, Paul (and maybe King?) made deliberately. The newer characters might not have learned it yet in Tekken lineage but might be able to parry each other. I dunno; could be overthinking.
I keep on searching for tekken 7 OSCAR, I cannot see that character until I noticed he pulled pulled up Asuka. lol

I think it was T3 because of the Chikens on that different fighting mode.

Negative, in TTT2 it wasn't a negative thing. Only in TTT1 was it a negative thing. In TTT2 it was the exact opposite and was from winning consecutive matches using a variety of moves and tag ins.

However, you didn't show the chicken King could do for Paul's powerbomb reversal. You said you would do it, but then you forgot about it.

'Hachi's had that powerbomb reversal animation for a good bit of time too.
b2+3 vs. any aerial double leg move.
So that's why the announcer actually says "chicken" in Tekken force when you get a chicken pickup.

Just messing around back inna day in Tek3 practice with Anna & found she had a unique reversal for King's shoulder-tackle! A lot of secret goodies in Tekken, not all juggle-centric! xP
jin has a generic attack reversal as well
it's omen stance f,f,b+2+4 or f,f,b+1+3
Jin can parry anything that isn't a fireball, laser, or grab. Shoulders, Headbutts, Rage Arts, Elbows etc can all be parried.

Erj 2Dela All 3 Kazama's are unique with their parry/reversals. Asuka has/had her d/f1+2 low parry to double mid stun.
Her generic reversal has such a large frame window(extendable) and can reverse more moves than most of the cast.
Jun in TTT2 can, get ready for this, REVERSE THROWS!.
Jin is the only one I know of who can PARRT a KNEE and ELBOW!
Closest thing to that is Feng f3+4 stance but it simply gives block animation(and follow up attack) instead of actually parrying the same way other characters do it.
I am not sure about Jin parrying rage and armor moves. Cuz Asuka cannot reverse RA's and RD's too.

Just checked Paul's powerbomb reversal it is unchickenable and there are no frames you can input when recovery animation is on
I think Drag and Asuka can't reverse Paul rolling thingy because the animation of their reversals is not the "generic" one (such as Nina or Paul himself who move their hands as to wanting to grab).
Aris is such a cool guy. Just casually teaches strum them reversals.

Kazuya's unblockable (spinning uppercut move) has a unique animation when parried. How about chickening Dragunov's low parries?
I did that reversal in tekken 2 with king and paul :D on daily basis but I never knew that there is something like a chicken! I saw it once in tekken 2 or 3...but I never wondered what happened. So ir was a thing...sick!!!

Bandai Namco Europe- they have an unlisted playlist made by themainmanswe. All are good tutorials for tekken 7.
King Jae- has SOOO much tutorial uploaded on his channel especially character guides.
Jmcroft- has the same amount of character guides and fundamental guides.
Levelupyourgame- has good tips for beginners.
avoiding the puddle- aris has more of the philosophy of tekken. The advance techniques.

Damn this chickening is tough. You really have to spam the input after your attack. No hesitation. So I do agree I wish there was more reward for this difficult mechanic.
My guess as to why Asuka and Dragunov can't reversal certain air attacks is to provide some balance. Perhaps the two already has good defensive options that it was either nerfed via patch or altered to some degree from TTT2 so that they are more manageable to fight against.
My best guess is that because Asukas generic reversal is so much better than anyone elses she's not allowed to parry Frankensteiner or Trooper Roll because as she could reversal them without precise timing it would make those already not very good moves even worse against her.
Paul has been able to counter Kings df+3+4 since Tekken 3 I believe.

That's because Oscar and SirGay can only reversal straight forward attacks, Pauls hitbox before the collision is high then mid then low even if only mid is the actual hit. that's why it don't work there tho...
Mike-X - BlueGangsta Asuka can reverse other Asuka's 3+4. She can reverse dive punches and kicks too but not all(She can reverse Raven/M.Raven dive punch/kick but not Kunimitsu.
She can also reverse both hits of Alisa's b3+4,3+4
This is interesting to me, I recently picked up Tekken 7 and it has been ages since i have played a tekken game. Some of the moves and characters I remember are still there, which is cool, but I don't precisely understand the nomenclature.
'down forward two' makes perfect sense but what is '+ 4' do the kicks and punches have numbers assigned to them
1=square
2=triangle
3=x
4=circle
Aris forgot to say that chickening is not done the same for every counter you want to chicken. For example, Paul's death fist isn't chickenable with forward and right punch+kick but you need to press forward + up + right punch + right kick to chicken a counter on a death fist.

EDIT: Never mind, he mentions airborne stuff can be parried, or at least some. But it still seems to me like following up with a slower move will catch them as their parry ends.

Wait so what was it in Tag 2 when I would watch pro Tekken matches and at the end of the match the announcer says chicken? This chicken here is totally new to me....*and that Paul power bomb was one of the sexiest things I've seen in Tekken*
He can powerbomb Nina, Heihachi, Jin, Kazuya n pretty much everyone who has a move that resemble SF's Bison's Scissor Kick (generalizing moves like that).
He can reverse Stone head throw from Mishimas and Mishima's can reverse the Reversed throw and both can go into an infinite loop of stone head throws.
Can reverse Ultimate Punishment from all characters.
DJ n Nina can reverse Yoshimitsu's qcf+1 move where he rolls with his sword in air.
IDK about DJ, Jin, Nina and Anna used to be able to do it in Tekken 3. dont know if Devil Jin still has it.
Heihach does the air born reversal too

Asuka has a separate reversal for legs. You were doing a fist reversal

1+2 and 3+4 chickening is usually what side limb hits first. At least that's what should make sense.
I tried this in practice mode a while back with heihachi. It also works on spring kicks.
yea heihachis is unique. he can even reversal elbows and knees in exchange for health.
See! This is the kind of stuff the game should tell you in a tutorial or something but there is none! That is the biggest negative about the game. Man there must be bunch of other stuff i don't know yet... so much to learn.

I never thought of using reversals as part of an offense. I only considered using them as a defensive tool and got bodied. Never thought of a jab - reversal set up.
No wonder why it wasn't working for me, I didn't know there was a right and left chicken
I wonder if the Asuka, Dragunov situation has to do with the fact that Nina and Paul have been around with their reversals since Tekken 2, maybe 3. Maybe they're the only ones left that can counter that stuff because they just never removed that ability from them, but new characters don't have it.

One thing I'll say massively mislead me in this video is saying that the chicken input is "buffered into the previous attack". That is not true, the chicken input must be done during the reversal animation. I learned this when failing it in ranked, I would mash out a couple chickens buffered into the startup animation but then stop mashing when it connected with my opponents reversal. The emphasis here is dont stop mashing
Potentially what aris meant by buffering is that you can button-buffer chickens to make it easy since usually the required chicken corresponds with the move input. Like after df2 all you need to do keep hold of 2 and mash f4

Harry Shirley health regenerate when you fully recover from an action , the reason he regenerared so quickly is most likely he fully recovered to his fight stance in 2-3 frames

for example asuka d+2 says -4s on block
Can you hit forward and all 4 buttons to make sure you get the reversal or does it have to be specifically f2+4 or f1+3

Asuka can reverse Asuka's 3+4.
She can also reverse most dive punch/kicks. But even tho she reverses h/m punches, kicks, double arms. She cannot reverse 2 legs at once. AND there are some arm/legs she cannot reverse.
Example is Miguels 1 hit KO.
And in TTT2 she cannot reverse Kunimitsu's dive kick(will test with M raven again cuz IK she can reverse old Raven dive kick).
from tekken 2 and you can catch yoshi sword ulti and armor king /king bomb in air
the katana reversal move is very rare
Nina and Jun did the same reversals for double moves, and most doubles chicken right.
Also asuka and dragunov's reversals aren't universal, which is why they can't catch the special shit.
