Use down jab several times to force unneeded hop kicks or slow down pressure. Simple tricks to change their thinking patterns. Also all strats change at different experience levels.
great advice! 3 days ago i fought a yoshi who spammed his 10 hit string with the unblockebles at the end and destroyed me with that. after that i rememebered aris' words and went into practice mode. lo and behold, the next day i actually got the same guy again. parried the low in his 10 hit twice and watched his his gameplan fall like a house of cards. feelsgoodman! :)
i might be wrong but it said counter hit because he was still during the startup animation of the df2 that's why the game counts that as a counter hit and not a punish. that's what i think because logically that's right tho :p
@@justdoutha806 well even though technically its called counter hit in reality u punish that move by interrupting it. Maybe he meant punish in layman terms.
if you are unsure what to do in mid-match (ie, not in practice mode where you can record and test), my suggestion is to block high first and see what your opponent does first. a lot of beginners make the mistake thinking that you HAVE to do something right away. you don't.
My brain got rage mode vs bryan and hwoarang players last week. I got my ass kicked because bryan was always attacking me with heavy frame advantage and hwoarang abused crush attacks. Thanks for this video, it helped me remember to stop getting nervous and just go to train mode and learn what to do in those situations.
Spent most of your time training yourself to master your character, punishing every move, and doing sick combos. Or you can do your thing with the bong. Your choice stoners.
I still disagree with starting out super specific. You can learn general solutions, and then learn the exceptions to them as they come up. You'll be able to dig in deep faster. It's also how you learn a foreign language. Learn general grammar and then learn the exceptions to the rules.
Matt Katch he was more arguing the way he was approaching the problem not Saying ignore fundamentals. He assumed he knew the basics of the game but wanted one move to fit a situation when the situation is what’s gonna determine the moves that solve it. Since he specified Dragunov
I think what the original donator meant was constnat pressure through button mashing. And in this case how can we know what they are going to do if they don't even know, their combo's happen by luck, their moves are completely random. How do you deal with that? There is no "1 move to learn how to counter" in this case...
I would say the best thing you can do in this case is use the fastest moves you have that are a launcher on counter hit just like Kazuya's df+2 and btw while they're mashing you'll notice that some of the moves they are doing can be like a 3 hit moves that you can easily punish or low parry
is tekken designed to emulate an actual fight? not in terms of realism but just for the seemingly unlimited number of scenarios a player could find themselves in and have to deal with at any moment
timeparadox888 no, because most real fights people go 1,2,1,2 until win or forward forward 2 in hopes of getting a perfect because they don't want to sustain any damage.
S B these knuckle dragging mouth breathers don't know how to practice because they don't know how to think. they'll either eventually learn how to think and then practice properly, or be doomed to suck forever
It's easy to say "just practice lol" then nobody would really learn anything. It's like giving someone a guitar and telling them to "practice" without actually giving them things to practice on.
When I see my opponent relying on downjabs I know for a fact that they do not have any confidence in their defense and use it as a crutch. I destroy downjabbers with hopkicks and low parries. Never rely on downjabs.
It's best to block or to use movement such as sidesteps or backdash to get out of pressure. Downjabs show your defense is weak and you're panicking. Also using movement can open up big whiff punish opportunities, whereas a down jab just tickles the character's crotch for like 8 points of damage.
Link Manchester Then look in that character's command list. Which limb are you being hit by? Write that shit down or make a quick mental note. If you can't recreate it visually, then you simply don't have enough knowledge yet.
Its not hard to know it. Go through the moveset of the character bothering you and find a move that looks similar in description to the move you want. E.g if the opponent looks like he crouch dashed the move will start with the crouch dash input. If the move is a shoulder than its probably a 1+2 move. You can also record the match and show it to players in discord or something and they'll tell you.
I gotta ask you a question guys. Back then i played tekken on PSP I didn't play that much and I never played serious like taking my time to learn every single useful move things like that. Now I do cuz i wanna get better. I'm pretty new to tekken 7 and i rlly like this game. Law is the only character I can play well and a friend of mine just told me he doesn't require any skill and he also told me he's like one of the easiest characters in the game. Is his skill level rlly that low? I don't think button mashing works well on law but since i'm a new player i wanna hear others opinion on this.
Im wondering about the side step left and right in this game if lets say youre on the LEFT side is side stepping left or right different for RIGHT side or is it the same thing if you witch possitions o.o!
Hey guys how much you should know about the game before going to ranked? and is there a general rule in learning to deal with X moves because it feels tiring going to pracitce mode after every match just to know how to deal with X move.
Ranked doesn't really mean anything, just play it when you want to see where you stack up online or want the rush of people really trying to beat you. There is no general rule, you just have to learn it. Tekken is a deep game, you can't generalize that much.
At the beginner level, you won't really be "ready".At that level, there's no way to prepare for ranked,or any type of online matches for that matter. If your goal and efforts have gone towards nailing down the fundamentals, that's ideal.Don't expect to win every match,as that's unrealistic.Rather,to learn. There is no general rule for dealing with moves.Aris just said it;you have to be specific.Tedious as one may think it is,it will save you countless matches in which you get beaten by the same moves. There is no bypassing that process. Now shhh!!
Learn one or two combos and start playing ranked, youll get a good feel for when to use what by actually playing people. Then you adjust your plan by using practice mode
Find some friends to play it on the couch with, if you're all new and you play for a lot of hours you'll feel yourself start to get familiar with the game. After that set up a solo session and begin to practice comboes and setups. I went through this exact process for this game and I can see myself improving
But I use devil Jin ain't he high tiers same with Jin or dragonav (I know I said his name wrong I'm lazy) but you are right it's just watching out for the stuff you get pressured by because yoshimitsu's 10 hit combo string is safe on block or I just keep getting hit by 4th or 5th input
One thing - if attack whiffs, how do you know how many frames you have to punish it ? I can't believe you would have only quarter of a second to punish 15 frame move, there's gotta be some trick here.
Just test that shit. Although usually refrain from trying to punish with a launcher as most whifs are a little quicker than that. It also helps if you know a move which has nice counter hit properties like "magic 4".
If they have long strings try to side step or hop kick. If they throw a lot of lows, go to Mids. If they throw Mids, Throw highs or mids, if they grab you on wake up it's most likely 1+2 break anyways (like it's a secret now?). Hellsweep when they miss an attack(if you have one) or a low that combos. Lastly you better know your characters punish game. Maximize follow ups don't be afraid to stomp, or hit an opponent on the ground. Any damage you get in a game is what you want, take advantage. Had to get real and start fully utilizing my main's arsenal (Lars). Here is a tip for Lars mains: When backed into a corner, if you can predict a mid or a low coming while your back is on the wall hit UF,3+4 (or UF,3+4, 1) for avalanche drop, in streetfighter language it's like Akuma's Demon flip to jump to the other side, or counter. I never see anyone use it, not Big Majin, nor Gunslinger uses this only, Silent/Dynamic entry. With a library of hit stun moves you can't always be at the same place at the same time gotta keep moving never stay just right in front of your opponent.
Haven't played a Tekken game since the first Tekken when I was a kid. All these videos are invalid to me. Genuinely just love watching Aris talk so much shit.
Oof man. You're obviously correct but as a new player this advice is a painful pill to swallow. Us noobs aren't getting bodied by one simple string from one character. We're getting wrecked by everything. It would take me a long as time to even figure out which move it was because let alone learn how to do it and record the string in training mode to learn counter play. There seems to be a real lack of simple brain dead advice or strategies for people trying to get past the barrier to entry. Like what is the the first 5 foundational things I should do in practice mode for someone who has 0 fighting game experience. KBD? Movement in general? Simple strings? Spacing? Going 1 by 1 through the roster and learning counterplay to each tool kit requires learning every single character and is beyond daunting. But maybe that's just how it be.
Defending in tekken sucks so pick Katerina and you do the pressure. Also there is no matchmaking in tekken if you are beginner you will get veteran opponents tap out to those there is no chance wait for the next guy
