Personally, since Minecraft animations have become their own genre it should be 3d animated. Plus, we have games like MC Dungeons and Legends as another reference point for what Minecraft tv show could be like. I found it a bit off when Story Mode made its world feel like a game instead of a fantasy one. But that’s just me.

The best way I think is simply retell the hidden story behind the ruins and various civilizations within each minecraft world. There is an underlying story within the various ruined structures, but the surprisingly, there is no effort of retelling it.
Seeing how Minecraft just expanded the amount of default skins I could see them all being the cast of characters. One of them could be an archeologist or something.

@@GodlyDeathclawNah Mojang would never allow that nowadays, it’s a pretty hard rule that characters can’t bend their limbs, only at joints can they move freely and they don’t have elbows or knees.
If anyone is concerned about it than I can at least say that the studio making this series is a really good one. Wildbrain is making ninjago since Season 11, and is now continuing it with Ninjago Dragons Rising, and in all of their seasons, the animation is insane to be honest. Yeah, it doesn't sound that cool if u think about lego people but go watch a bit of fight that Wildbrain did for Ninjago, and you'll see what the studio can do
Dragon’s raising for me kinda sucked. But I freaking love carman sandiago and my friend said how sonic was also pretty good (unlike most games) so I’m excited but worried, really worried. Which is how I feel for most video adaptations, we had great ones like detective Pikachu, The Cuphead show, sonic but then there’s mid ones like fnaf and mario. I do hope this will be good
You basically described what Alan becker's channel does when it comes to minecraft. The Animation vs minecraft series is probably the best example of what you could do movie wise if it goes the way of the lego movie in its meta use. Though to be fair they have as much time as they usually feel like with it and usually think of new ideas based on one of their teams own interests. (For smaller episodes sometimes.) it can also definitely do story telling amazingly despite none of the characters being able to talk.

Yeah, especially for a team that went into that project with, as far as I am aware, zero experience in the genre, the results are quite solid. What issues the game does have are mainly on the more advanced side of its kind of game design, like the scaling and balance being whacky and there arguably never having been a properly satisfying end game (not for a lack of trying though and all those attempts add up to a remarkable sum of content to play through even without DLCs). I don't think it's said enough in the aftermath of Minecraft Dungeons development being officially ended, but the devs legitimately did a decent, in fact commendable job with that spin-off.
I've said it a million times and I'll say it again, Songs of War is as good as good of a minecraft movie/series as we're ever gonna get, it's literally an actual 2h12min movie with truly cinematic animation and a truly creative plot establishing a whole universe with lore and expansion potential, they should just fund a proper second and third season, as those only partially exist fanmade for complicated reasons.

I highly doubt it’s the same project, but my brother (he’s rather obsessed with these things, which is how I hear of them) mentioned that the team behind Villager news was involved in an official Minecraft project. He might have been talking about working on their mob announcement videos? Again I’m not sure, but if you find it interesting then maybe this tidbit could be a starting point for some research 🙂 I likely won’t delve into it more since I’m not particularly invested in any projects off the main game, so I wish everyone who does some luck!

I don't think adapting Minecraft into a series is an impossible task but I also won't be mad if they mess it up. Minecraft has a bunch of other animated or story videos online that one official series is not going to remove years of those animations or stories.

Exactly. They absolutely DO have their own charm; MCSM still has a very sizable fandom (including me), and people love it because of the story and characters. The point is to make various stories, and none being "The One". (Which is why I'm glad mcsm has a Portal Network. They already have the opportunity to make it a community multiverse, where anyone can do anything, and it be canon (kinda like the Spiderverse implied.)) They still feel like Minecraft because all the official stories were never intended to be "The One Canon Story", just "A canon story".

My thoughts as a long time minecraft player. I think a lot of people are forgetting that minecraft roleplay stories exists. Aphmau was one of the biggest TH-camrs and even made a studio for her incredibly complex world she created. Sadly the fandom got too toxic and was sending her death threats. As a kid I would have loved to see a live action version of the Mystreet/ diaries verse. I'm hoping mostly that the live action is funny but can take its serious moments seriously and that the references are not just that but actually apart of the lore they create, Herobrine, The ancient builders all of that would be amazing. I also hope its an established world and not the start of someone's let's play. We don't need minecraft explained to us. Even my 53 year old mother understands minecraft make it for the fans not for new people. I hope the series goes on for loads of seasons and just keeps going and going. That would be so fun to see different stories every season. You could have lots of different kinds of experiences then. The noobs, the redstoners , the builders, the TH-camrs, the older gen the younger gen it would be amazing
2:12 Yeah, this makes me realize that they're probably going to do Minecraft: The Island for the movie. For those who don't know, Minecraft The Island is an official novel thats basically Jumanji. And the VA for the audiobook is, of course, Jack Black. Dont get me wrong, I really like the "isekai Jumanji" plotline like Wildbrain did for Ninjago Prime Empire, but only when its done right. And Minecraft the island is NOT done right. At all. Im hoping the show will have a different plot, and if it does it'd be really cool if they had at least one MCSM reference, since technically the Minecraft multiverse is canon.... technically. Honestly, I'm waiting for a Minecraft Story Mode spinoff. As quoted in the game itself: "But when one story ends, another one begins..." I'm waiting for a story outside of the main cast perspective. Or, a set of different stories, all happening in different places. Usual routine of most people in minecraft, little adventures happening to them, maybe those people discovering Minecraft's past. There were some pretty fun minecraft animated series on youtube, though. Noob adventures, mob squad, and minecraft wild adventures. All crazy different execpt for minecraft being the only common thing about them.
Honestly, in my personal opinion, if they tried to make the series more story driven, i feel like there are 2 routes they could go that could go well, and has done well to create something compelling when independantly created by minecraft fans: 1: an animated series where the story itself has little to nothing to do with minecraft and just happens to be set in minecraft, akin to series such as Songs of War 2: one of those high effort minecraft roleplay series that utilizes mods to help with props, poses, higher quality skins, etc. (Sorta like Alux Rising or later episodes of Mystreet)
I can see each episode either being a self contained adventure showing off the different biomes and mechanics with their own twist similar to Alan Beckers animation vs Minecraft videos, focusing more on what you can build and the world around them, or one with an overlying fun story similar to Pewdiepies Minecraft series where the MC gets stronger and builds up their base focusing on adventuring and having fun while a plot brews in the background. I think it being similar to the lego movie about creativity would be fun and maybe talking about and showing ruins like how end cities exist or what happened to the warden and his village or sunken ships. either way I’m interested in seeing what Netflix does because there’s so much you can do with it I feel they should have no problem coming up with at least an entertaining story.
Doing minecraft as an animation definitely has a ton of potential. I really hope it turns out well. I thoroughly enjoy the various fan made animations that people have put out over the years, some of which is simply astounding! Overall I think that the series shouldn't have a complicated story. A slice of life style really does sound ideal, especially if you have several characters that exist in the same world but aren't inherently connected by fate or something. I'd love to see something where a couple people just explore a cave and face the dangers within in one episode. Then the next is another character on a quest to set up a potion shop with several bumps along the way gathering ingredients and interacting with villagers etc. Sure they can interact on occasion but otherwise just flick around to a few people. Perhaps it can even be a group of people building a town together, and it just grows slowly in the background during the series. Who knows
I think what could really represent minecraft well is something structured like regular show, where the characters start off by wanting/needing to do something normal but things happen that make it more exciting, just like in game, where if you want to build with a certain material for example, you might have to go somewhere or build some form of farm or something which can then lead to other things, so if that concept was taken and used I think it could really represent the gameplay well
Honestly what I think would work best for a Minecraft movie is to take heavy notes from the Lego movie and treat the game more like a medium than a story waiting to be adapted. Both properties have a lot in common, their openness and easily recognizable qualities to name a few, along with spanning multiple target demographics. You basically have a blank canvas story-wise for both where you can do anything, that’s literally the point of both properties: to build what you imagine! They shouldn’t make a story out of Minecraft, the closest we have to that is every playthrough to fight the enderdragon on TH-cam. They should build a story first and then work in Minecraft elements to it. Like the Minecraft roleplay videos but elevated. (and far more appropriate goodness 👀) Andd that’s my worthless two cents. Probably not going to see it when it comes out unless I’m taken by family or it shows promise.
My hopes lie in how they decide to handle things for this animated series. My main example of animated minecraft being fun is the youtube channel Element Animation who do the Villager News stuff. Their videos are funny and well made, but they don't really do story and when they do its minor and not serious. If they make a minecraft series, I feel it NEEDS to be more slice of life and not some overarching plot. They can have smaller plot sections where they could feature locations like the Ancient City/Deep Dark, Woodland Mansion, End, Bastion, etc. but it needs to just be some fun and simple, mainly episodic show to really capture the feel of minecraft. Minecraft at its core is simple and slice of life-like with the only scripted story type stuff we ever really see from the base game is some SMPs but even then I think they're far inferior (Dream SMP is a scripted pile of garbage compared to the wacky and improvised Hermitcraft server).
Making a Minecraft story requires a Minecraft world and locations. Like Songs of War for example, it has all the necessary needs to create a Minecraft story. A story can't become a story if it doesn't have locations, you need get a map, get locations first before you write down a story otherwise you won't know where to put your characters and where they're going to go and how it's going to proceed. Don't forget the obstacles for the characters to add some action. They could do something similar to Songs of War but it's kinda different. You need a start and an ending. Unless they're going to make those Steve and Alex kind of stuff along with Element Animation's villager news or something
I second the idea of an anthology series. Minecraft makes things many don't consider in their daily life feel so important and fun, such as architecture and construction, agriculture and animal taming, engineering and design. An anthology of each of the many activities one can pick up in Minecraft, or even the entire catalogue of items, creatures, locations and achievements would be very fun to watch and just as much make
I'm going to sound crazy, but I am currently writing a Minecraft novel and have been for the past six years,. And I'm not the only one. There are plenty of Minecraft novels you can find out there! On top of that, as mentioned in this video, dozens upon dozens of TH-cam channels have made their own little animations with stories and characters. This is why, as a Minecraft lover myself, I think that a Minecraft story has a ton of potential. Often times when one opens up a Minecraft world and starts playing, because of the way the game is designed, sooner or later a story emerges. Perhaps it's you saving a villager from falling off a cliff. Perhaps it's about fighting a raid for a village you've grown to care about. My point is, Minecraft unlike so many video games, is basically asking for people to make stories out of. One thing I will say, however, is that it's preferable to keep the story simple and not have a million characters all with a quest of killing the ender dragon or whatever. A simple story about simple people living in a Minecraft world, could easily make a wonderful show for all Minecraft players.
The writers definitely know what they're doing. Especially since they worked on the latest Ninjago series which have been really good and refreshing. I'm 90% sure it'll be 3D animated and I'm here for it. As long as none of the character's/mobs limbs bend I'm happy. Minecraft actually does have lore from the Legends and Dungeons spin offs which tie into Vanilla Minecraft so they could take elements from those and finally fill in some gaps we've missed. Whatever path they take I'm hoping for the best. (Also hoping Steve and Alex are in it but I bet it's gonna be focused on OCs instead...)
For me, I would make Minecraft an animated show. I'd probably take notes from how some SMPs work. Mainly, focus more on the "players" and their relationships. Some episodes are simply them doing menial tasks, like farming or mining, but others could lean into personal conflict (like someone's ___ is stolen) so the episodes are driven less in "Shenanigans in block game" but instead "Follow this group turning this world into their own design". That way you can have episodes following some of Minecraft's more popular sides, like exploration, building, combat, and stories for a world you make.
An interesting story would be about the ancient builders. It would give us insight into who they were, what they were, where they came from, and what happened to them. The focus could be on the history of the world we are thrown into, or it could be a mixture of dungeons and legends possibly linking the franchises together. I think Minecraft can be a show; you need to make the right story.
I just hope its like the 3d animated trailers. Also would like if each episode was an enclosed individual story with new locations and characters like you said.
Hear me out Every episode features different characters in entierly different situations facing their own probelms who ultemently by the end of the episode are so close to triumph, and are each one single step away from finishing their stoey arc, beating the ender dragon, and in the finaly each of the previous episodes heros meet up unexpectedly, maybe some stumble together on the trip to the stronghold, others join a bounty to kill the ender dragon, all to team up together and defeat the big bad dragon, completeing each of their respective story arcs Good enough
Most people right now that I know after seeing the teaser are like “OMG THEYRE GIVING US MINECRAFT STORY MODE SEASON 3!!!” But… Mojang has basically forgotten about those games for the most part(at least I think, someone enlighten me if otherwise). I love Minecraft Story Mode, like the game it was based off of it was a major part of my childhood but… people are getting their hopes up too high, it’s very unlikely Mojang suddenly picks up MCSM again for a Netflix series.
I think it would be cool if beating the ender dragon wasn’t the big finale. The big finale should be something like the world gets corrupted and they have to delete it. It would hold so much more weight since it’s something that’s happened to so many people. All their effort and progress is lost so they just have to start a new world. I think that’s what it should end with.
Usually I don’t really like 3d animated movies, but honestly I’m really glad the show isn’t in 2d (although I wish the movie was animated also, maybe they could tie it in or smth) because the medium of Minecraft is so fundamentally 3d that makes a lot of room for fun animation and details
We have proof that minecraft can be an amazing story telling tool, especially considering the insane growth and popularity certain smps experienced over the years. I hope it'll take some notes from the Lego Movie and take on a life of it's own. I'm personally excited but depending on how the trailers turn out that may change.
Hot take with all the (justified) Chris Pratt hate, but I always thought that Pratt would make a phenomenal Steve Minecraft. His performance in the Lego Movie is what really sold me on the idea; he makes a great Generic Dude and I can see Steve Minecraft falling into that archetype really easily
personally if I had A hand in its development I would contact game theory on thier version of the minecraft lore yeah yeah its about saving the environment but they tell A story of A lost civilization of builders, pirates, conquest, playing God. They say that steve is I think they said is the last decendent and will be the one to pick up the peices and learn from thier mistakes of which now the anceint builders are the endermen having seeked refuge in the end only by eating the chorus fruit became them and only what they remember is simple words but in reverse and picking up blocks. This timeline they came up with is one of tradgedy and error, and I think so much can be done with this plot and I say still focus on steve but mix in the plot of another of fallen kingdom of which in A series of music videos A prince is raised by villagers and they teach him who he is and to fight for what he lost. I think this would be A cool plot, I hope whatever Netflix and whoever is directing the minecraft movie will hopefully make something good but I say give the theorists A chance, dont you agree? oh and one more thing, apparently the evokers and vidicators are cargo cults which are A real thing that during WW2 uncontacted tribes were contacted by U.S, Japanese, and British forces and to better understand what they seen they shape wooden objects like airstrips, planes, and other things even doing the same drills they seen the soldiers do and they are still waiting to this day to be contacted I heard thier is even A tribe who worships A member of the british royalty as A deity one who just came and left
Honestly, Minecraft is a really hard thing to adapt into a ''mainstream'' piece of media with high budget. I feel like Minecraft-related animated content is fine enough staying in the confines of the game itself (Machinemas) or just being fan-made projects (All those really cool animatics made by fans of different Minecraft SMPs). Something like a full on ''Minecraft Netflix series'' really isn't going to work in my opinion.
I personaly think a 3d Animation series of Minecraft can indeed Work! For example Villager News or squared media, and these are free to watch on TH-cam!! I dont have much hope in the Real Life adaptation but in animated Form if it is done right it could theoreticly work

I believe that Minecraft and it’s story can be up to interpretation. Your Steve and Alex or OC’s, are not someone else’s. And this may just be Netflix’s interpretation, and the movie is the writers of that movie’s interpretation. That’s what I love about the scattered lore.
All they gotta do is just make a story based on steve, alex and gang discovering the ancient civilization, sprinkle in some epic battles with mobs add some funny bits with villagers and maybe end the series with the ender dragon or other boss if they want
Minecraft Story Mode Season 1 was released in 2015, and MCSM Season 2 released in 2017. Minecraft Dungeons released in 2020. You got the dates slightly wrong there.
This guy clearly doesn’t know anything about Minecraft or it’s community, first he said that the show should be in 2D, which for a game where every form of it’s media is in 3D is a crime. Actually Minecraft can be used as a platform for stories quite easily. But such stories have to happen in first person. So if anything it would be sort of like a found footage style movie of events that the "player" goes through. There is a youtuber who does it similarily by the name of "Zeemyth" who goes in a horror movie direction. A lot of first person sections but even some proper camera shots as well as proper editing and acting. While I wouldnt say that its on the same level as hollywood (how could it be, the man is literally doing this from the game and does it all by himself) but it is of great quality nontheless. I feel if a minecraft series or movie can be created its in his style 1000%
NGL, i'd love to see someone make an anthology series of Minecraft. have some episodes be peacefjl, some tense, some showing the scary aspects of the game's world, maybe even some episodes that explain some lore, it could be very interesting
Wildbrain has been animating Ninjago since yrs ago and honestly I think 3D might be the way to go for Minecraft considering how Ninjago looks and honestly both Sonic and Ninjago action scenes are amazing and I think some for Minecraft (a few) would look very good.

I would argue that Minecraft was best adapted to external media because of Element Animations and fan content here on TH-cam. The former were even hired to animate Update trailers.

The best way I think is simply retell the hidden story behind the ruins and various civilizations within each minecraft world. There is an underlying story within the various ruined structures, but the surprisingly, there is no effort of retelling it.
Seeing how Minecraft just expanded the amount of default skins I could see them all being the cast of characters. One of them could be an archeologist or something.

@@GodlyDeathclawNah Mojang would never allow that nowadays, it’s a pretty hard rule that characters can’t bend their limbs, only at joints can they move freely and they don’t have elbows or knees.
If anyone is concerned about it than I can at least say that the studio making this series is a really good one. Wildbrain is making ninjago since Season 11, and is now continuing it with Ninjago Dragons Rising, and in all of their seasons, the animation is insane to be honest. Yeah, it doesn't sound that cool if u think about lego people but go watch a bit of fight that Wildbrain did for Ninjago, and you'll see what the studio can do

Dragon’s raising for me kinda sucked. But I freaking love carman sandiago and my friend said how sonic was also pretty good (unlike most games) so I’m excited but worried, really worried. You basically described what Alan becker's channel does when it comes to minecraft.
The Animation vs minecraft series is probably the best example of what you could do movie wise if it goes the way of the lego movie in its meta use.
Though to be fair they have as much time as they usually feel like with it and usually think of new ideas based on one of their teams own interests. (For smaller episodes sometimes.) it can also definitely do story telling amazingly despite none of the characters being able to talk.

Yeah, especially for a team that went into that project with, as far as I am aware, zero experience in the genre, the results are quite solid.
What issues the game does have are mainly on the more advanced side of its kind of game design, like the scaling and balance being whacky and there arguably never having been a properly satisfying end game (not for a lack of trying though and all those attempts add up to a remarkable sum of content to play through even without DLCs).
I don't think it's said enough in the aftermath of Minecraft Dungeons development being officially ended, but the devs legitimately did a decent, in fact commendable job with that spin-off.

I've said it a million times and I'll say it again, Songs of War is as good as good of a minecraft movie/series as we're ever gonna get, it's literally an actual 2h12min movie with truly cinematic animation and a truly creative plot establishing a whole universe with lore and expansion potential, they should just fund a proper second and third season, as those only partially exist fanmade for complicated reasons.

I don't think adapting Minecraft into a series is an impossible task but I also won't be mad if they mess it up. Minecraft has a bunch of other animated or story videos online that one official series is not going to remove years of those animations or stories.

Exactly. They absolutely DO have their own charm; MCSM still has a very sizable fandom (including me), and people love it because of the story and characters.
The point is to make various stories, and none being "The One". (Which is why I'm glad mcsm has a Portal Network. They already have the opportunity to make it a community multiverse, where anyone can do anything, and it be canon (kinda like the Spiderverse implied.))
They still feel like Minecraft because all the official stories were never intended to be "The One Canon Story", just "A canon story".

My thoughts as a long time minecraft player.
I think a lot of people are forgetting that minecraft roleplay stories exists. Aphmau was one of the biggest TH-camrs and even made a studio for her incredibly complex world she created. Sadly the fandom got too toxic and was sending her death threats.
As a kid I would have loved to see a live action version of the Mystreet/ diaries verse.
I'm hoping mostly that the live action is funny but can take its serious moments seriously and that the references are not just that but actually apart of the lore they create, Herobrine, The ancient builders all of that would be amazing. I also hope its an established world and not the start of someone's let's play. We don't need minecraft explained to us.
Even my 53 year old mother understands minecraft make it for the fans not for new people.
I hope the series goes on for loads of seasons and just keeps going and going. That would be so fun to see different stories every season. You could have lots of different kinds of experiences then. The noobs, the redstoners , the builders, the TH-camrs, the older gen the younger gen it would be amazing

2:12 Yeah, this makes me realize that they're probably going to do Minecraft: The Island for the movie. For those who don't know, Minecraft The Island is an official novel thats basically Jumanji. And the VA for the audiobook is, of course, Jack Black.
Dont get me wrong, I really like the "isekai Jumanji" plotline like Wildbrain did for Ninjago Prime Empire, but only when its done right. And Minecraft the island is NOT done right. At all.
Im hoping the show will have a different plot, and if it does it'd be really cool if they had at least one MCSM reference, since technically the Minecraft multiverse is canon.... technically.
And if they involve Herobrine, I want him to ACTUALLY be a three dimensional character, not "leafless trees go brrr im a goofy virus :P", although, if what im thinking for the movie is correct, they might just make him a boring cardboard cutout antagonist in the show :/

There were some pretty fun minecraft animated series on youtube, though. Noob adventures, mob squad, and minecraft wild adventures. All crazy different execpt for minecraft being the only common thing about them.

Honestly, in my personal opinion, if they tried to make the series more story driven, i feel like there are 2 routes they could go that could go well, and has done well to create something compelling when independantly created by minecraft fans:
1: an animated series where the story itself has little to nothing to do with minecraft and just happens to be set in minecraft, akin to series such as Songs of War
2: one of those high effort minecraft roleplay series that utilizes mods to help with props, poses, higher quality skins, etc. (Sorta like Alux Rising or later episodes of Mystreet)
I can see each episode either being a self contained adventure showing off the different biomes and mechanics with their own twist similar to Alan Beckers animation vs Minecraft videos, focusing more on what you can build and the world around them, or one with an overlying fun story similar to Pewdiepies Minecraft series where the MC gets stronger and builds up their base focusing on adventuring and having fun while a plot brews in the background. I think it being similar to the lego movie about creativity would be fun and maybe talking about and showing ruins like how end cities exist or what happened to the warden and his village or sunken ships. either way I’m interested in seeing what Netflix does because there’s so much you can do with it I feel they should have no problem coming up with at least an entertaining story.
Now I want you to review Minecraft StoryMode.
Doing minecraft as an animation definitely has a ton of potential. I really hope it turns out well. I thoroughly enjoy the various fan made animations that people have put out over the years, some of which is simply astounding!
Overall I think that the series shouldn't have a complicated story. A slice of life style really does sound ideal, especially if you have several characters that exist in the same world but aren't inherently connected by fate or something. I'd love to see something where a couple people just explore a cave and face the dangers within in one episode. Then the next is another character on a quest to set up a potion shop with several bumps along the way gathering ingredients and interacting with villagers etc. Sure they can interact on occasion but otherwise just flick around to a few people. Perhaps it can even be a group of people building a town together, and it just grows slowly in the background during the series. Who knows
I think what could really represent minecraft well is something structured like regular show, where the characters start off by wanting/needing to do something normal but things happen that make it more exciting, just like in game, where if you want to build with a certain material for example, you might have to go somewhere or build some form of farm or something which can then lead to other things, so if that concept was taken and used I think it could really represent the gameplay well
i think the best way this can go is making it like early mlp: mostly episodic with a plot being built up over time.
Honestly what I think would work best for a Minecraft movie is to take heavy notes from the Lego movie and treat the game more like a medium than a story waiting to be adapted.
Both properties have a lot in common, their openness and easily recognizable qualities to name a few, along with spanning multiple target demographics. You basically have a blank canvas story-wise for both where you can do anything, that’s literally the point of both properties: to build what you imagine!
They shouldn’t make a story out of Minecraft, the closest we have to that is every playthrough to fight the enderdragon on TH-cam.
They should build a story first and then work in Minecraft elements to it. Like the Minecraft roleplay videos but elevated. (and far more appropriate goodness 👀)

My hopes lie in how they decide to handle things for this animated series. My main example of animated minecraft being fun is the youtube channel Element Animation who do the Villager News stuff. Their videos are funny and well made, but they don't really do story and when they do its minor and not serious. If they make a minecraft series, I feel it NEEDS to be more slice of life and not some overarching plot. They can have smaller plot sections where they could feature locations like the Ancient City/Deep Dark, Woodland Mansion, End, Bastion, etc. but it needs to just be some fun and simple, mainly episodic show to really capture the feel of minecraft. Minecraft at its core is simple and slice of life-like with the only scripted story type stuff we ever really see from the base game is some SMPs but even then I think they're far inferior (Dream SMP is a scripted pile of garbage compared to the wacky and improvised Hermitcraft server).
We just need to give Slamacow a decent budget and let the magic happen

Making a Minecraft story requires a Minecraft world and locations. Like Songs of War for example, it has all the necessary needs to create a Minecraft story.
A story can't become a story if it doesn't have locations, you need get a map, get locations first before you write down a story otherwise you won't know where to put your characters and where they're going to go and how it's going to proceed. Don't forget the obstacles for the characters to add some action. They could do something similar to Songs of War but it's kinda different. You need a start and an ending.
Unless they're going to make those Steve and Alex kind of stuff along with Element Animation's villager news or something
I second the idea of an anthology series. Minecraft makes things many don't consider in their daily life feel so important and fun, such as architecture and construction, agriculture and animal taming, engineering and design. An anthology of each of the many activities one can pick up in Minecraft, or even the entire catalogue of items, creatures, locations and achievements would be very fun to watch and just as much make

I'm going to sound crazy, but I am currently writing a Minecraft novel and have been for the past six years,. And I'm not the only one. There are plenty of Minecraft novels you can find out there! On top of that, as mentioned in this video, dozens upon dozens of TH-cam channels have made their own little animations with stories and characters.
This is why, as a Minecraft lover myself, I think that a Minecraft story has a ton of potential. Often times when one opens up a Minecraft world and starts playing, because of the way the game is designed, sooner or later a story emerges. Perhaps it's you saving a villager from falling off a cliff. Perhaps it's about fighting a raid for a village you've grown to care about. My point is, Minecraft unlike so many video games, is basically asking for people to make stories out of. One thing I will say, however, is that it's preferable to keep the story simple and not have a million characters all with a quest of killing the ender dragon or whatever. A simple story about simple people living in a Minecraft world, could easily make a wonderful show for all Minecraft players.

The writers definitely know what they're doing. Especially since they worked on the latest Ninjago series which have been really good and refreshing. I'm 90% sure it'll be 3D animated and I'm here for it. As long as none of the character's/mobs limbs bend I'm happy. Minecraft actually does have lore from the Legends and Dungeons spin offs which tie into Vanilla Minecraft so they could take elements from those and finally fill in some gaps we've missed. Whatever path they take I'm hoping for the best. (Also hoping Steve and Alex are in it but I bet it's gonna be focused on OCs instead...)
For me, I would make Minecraft an animated show. I'd probably take notes from how some SMPs work. Mainly, focus more on the "players" and their relationships. Some episodes are simply them doing menial tasks, like farming or mining, but others could lean into personal conflict (like someone's ___ is stolen) so the episodes are driven less in "Shenanigans in block game" but instead "Follow this group turning this world into their own design". That way you can have episodes following some of Minecraft's more popular sides, like exploration, building, combat, and stories for a world you make.

An interesting story would be about the ancient builders. It would give us insight into who they were, what they were, where they came from, and what happened to them. The focus could be on the history of the world we are thrown into, or it could be a mixture of dungeons and legends possibly linking the franchises together. I think Minecraft can be a show; you need to make the right story.
I just hope its like the 3d animated trailers. Also would like if each episode was an enclosed individual story with new locations and characters like you said.

Every episode features different characters in entierly different situations facing their own probelms who ultemently by the end of the episode are so close to triumph, and are each one single step away from finishing their stoey arc, beating the ender dragon, and in the finaly each of the previous episodes heros meet up unexpectedly, maybe some stumble together on the trip to the stronghold, others join a bounty to kill the ender dragon, all to team up together and defeat the big bad dragon, completeing each of their respective story arcs

Most people right now that I know after seeing the teaser are like “OMG THEYRE GIVING US MINECRAFT STORY MODE SEASON 3!!!” But… Mojang has basically forgotten about those games for the most part(at least I think, someone enlighten me if otherwise). I love Minecraft Story Mode, like the game it was based off of it was a major part of my childhood but… people are getting their hopes up too high, it’s very unlikely Mojang suddenly picks up MCSM again for a Netflix series.

I think it would be cool if beating the ender dragon wasn’t the big finale. The big finale should be something like the world gets corrupted and they have to delete it. It would hold so much more weight since it’s something that’s happened to so many people. All their effort and progress is lost so they just have to start a new world. I think that’s what it should end with.
Usually I don’t really like 3d animated movies, but honestly I’m really glad the show isn’t in 2d (although I wish the movie was animated also, maybe they could tie it in or smth) because the medium of Minecraft is so fundamentally 3d that makes a lot of room for fun animation and details

personally if I had A hand in its development I would contact game theory on thier version of the minecraft lore yeah yeah its about saving the environment but they tell A story of A lost civilization of builders, pirates, conquest, playing God. This timeline they came up with is one of tradgedy and error, and I think so much can be done with this plot and I say still focus on steve but mix in the plot of another of fallen kingdom of which in A series of music videos A prince is raised by villagers and they teach him who he is and to fight for what he lost. I think this would be A cool plot, I hope whatever Netflix and whoever is directing the minecraft movie will hopefully make something good but I say give the theorists A chance, dont you agree? oh and one more thing, apparently the evokers and vidicators are cargo cults which are A real thing that during WW2 uncontacted tribes were contacted by U.S, Japanese, and British forces and to better understand what they seen they shape wooden objects like airstrips, planes, and other things even doing the same drills they seen the soldiers do and they are still waiting to this day to be contacted I heard thier is even A tribe who worships A member of the british royalty as A deity one who just came and left
Honestly, Minecraft is a really hard thing to adapt into a ''mainstream'' piece of media with high budget. I feel like Minecraft-related animated content is fine enough staying in the confines of the game itself (Machinemas) or just being fan-made projects (All those really cool animatics made by fans of different Minecraft SMPs). Something like a full on ''Minecraft Netflix series'' really isn't going to work in my opinion.
I personaly think a 3d Animation series of Minecraft can indeed Work! For example Villager News or squared media, and these are free to watch on TH-cam!!
I dont have much hope in the Real Life adaptation but in animated Form if it is done right it could theoreticly work
I'd love it if the series were an Anthology, with each episode a different story and different characters. In one episode, Steve is trying to get away from Zombies, in another episode it's just a wolf trying to hunt for food or something.

I believe that Minecraft and it’s story can be up to interpretation. Your Steve and Alex or OC’s, are not someone else’s. And this may just be Netflix’s interpretation, and the movie is the writers of that movie’s interpretation. That’s what I love about the scattered lore.
All they gotta do is just make a story based on steve, alex and gang discovering the ancient civilization, sprinkle in some epic battles with mobs add some funny bits with villagers and maybe end the series with the ender dragon or other boss if they want

This guy clearly doesn’t know anything about Minecraft or it’s community, first he said that the show should be in 2D, which for a game where every form of it’s media is in 3D is a crime. Second he said “Minecraft Steve and Minecraft Alex go to the Nether to fight the Ender Dragon” which is absolutely not true. Last but not least, he kept dissing on Minecraft Story Mode and saying no one liked it, YET IT WAS THE MOST BELOVED AND MISSED MINECRAFT SPIN-OFF THAT WAS EVER PUBLISHED

Actually Minecraft can be used as a platform for stories quite easily. But such stories have to happen in first person. So if anything it would be sort of like a found footage style movie of events that the "player" goes through. There is a youtuber who does it similarily by the name of "Zeemyth" who goes in a horror movie direction. A lot of first person sections but even some proper camera shots as well as proper editing and acting. While I wouldnt say that its on the same level as hollywood (how could it be, the man is literally doing this from the game and does it all by himself) but it is of great quality nontheless. I feel if a minecraft series or movie can be created its in his style 1000%

NGL, i'd love to see someone make an anthology series of Minecraft. have some episodes be peacefjl, some tense, some showing the scary aspects of the game's world, maybe even some episodes that explain some lore, it could be very interesting
Wildbrain has been animating Ninjago since yrs ago and honestly I think 3D might be the way to go for Minecraft considering how Ninjago looks and honestly both Sonic and Ninjago action scenes are amazing and I think some for Minecraft (a few) would look very good.
If it's bad, it will get 10 seasons, and if it's good, it will get cancelled instantly. Thats how Netflix works

I would argue that Minecraft was best adapted to external media because of Element Animations and fan content here on TH-cam. The former were even hired to animate Update trailers.
I feel like the best thing they could do is basically do the trailers in stuff but the characters now talk and the is to fight the ender dragon and they go through the basic steps you would do in Minecraft to reach that said goal tho it would be just mostly random there would also be an over arching story and as someone who has watched sonic prime I have very high hopes in terms of the animation

I think that the series should be a slice of life that with each episode introduces next update (I mean, we start with the earliest not alfa version and we go up with the whole history -april fools updates) but it would still end on ender dragon beaing beaten
