I love how our video game industry has basically invented a social class system for players. If you can't afford to put endless amounts of extra money into games anymore you not a part of the first class. Which is just great for anyone who lives in rough circumstances and uses video games to cope. I know several disabled gamers who can't afford to keep up with constant microtransactions and dlc, and it sometimes will gate them off from playing with their friends. Destiny 2 comes to mind for that example. Can't do the important stuff locked behind a paywall? Well get ready to watch your your friends leave you behind.
It’s a sad truth and one I’ll never understand why companies do this we don’t want it. We want to hang with friends not buy our way so we can do the thing we enjoy the most We should just by a game and that be it
people have offered to pay for more features, and for cosmetics, before micro-transactions were a thing. So micro-transactions were indeed asked for. To claim other wise, makes you ignorant. DLCs became means of adding more features to a game for a bit extra cash, as an example. What people didn't ask for, is the predatory nature in which game companies took micro-transactions. Game companies decided to reduce game quality, in favor of micro-transactions; and it is scary that there are enough people rewarding such behavior.
They do with their wallets. The fact that these companies put them in and make a shit ton of money off of them indicates to these companies that people want this stuff. So unfortunately, the small crowd of youtube watching gamers who are vocally against micrtransactions are probably only abour 25%-40% of everyone who plays these games, because the rest of the people who arent raging online about them, are actually buying them. Not saying its right or wrong but theyre put into games because people pay for them. And if you're paying a big corporation money for something, that indicates to them that you want more.
In Genshin's defense, even though they could really double the amount of primogem we get from daily tasks, they are the most generous I've seen with meaningful in-game currency in years. There's only 2 currency, one of which only exists to distinguish between what you bought with real money and is a 1:1 conversion to primogem, everything else is extra tokens that you get while doing things and cannot be bought. Probably one of the best things is having only 1 currency, hope they never change that. Jake in the video sounds like a lot like he really just started playing, but after 1-2 weeks and after AR 20, it's pretty clear what everything does IMO.
It reminded me of Wizard101. It is already pay-to-play mostly, and in it the PAID customization options (hair style / color, eye colors, etc) look better than the free ones, which you can only choose at the start. The paid hair styles are basically wigs. You can choose the color, but to change it again you have to buy a NEW wig with real money. I often stitch wigs (put a gear's stats on another gear), and for that you need to pay. If you want a new look, you have to pay to UNstitch the wig first (split the two gear pieces back), or else you will lose the wig you bought. Technically not FORCING you to pay more, but the loopholes will get you cornered if you regret your decisions.
That would put them in the cross fires are blatantly endorsing youth gambling. I would rather not have stricter guidelines for video games or explain to people that video games are not gambling.
And its pretty common in Asia, where it was made. So much that people over there don't care; its better for them to play a free game with cheap cosmetics than to buy a $60, pretty soon $70-80, game.
but Genshin have two kind of gacha, characters, and weapons. Not to mention both rates are abysmally low. Honkai (another game by the dev) got it worse with not just weapons, but also stigma (basically genshin's artifact, but is locked in gacha wall). Out of all gacha games I know or played I can say Genshin is one of the worst.
@@wynser I tell folks that play this and they're either shocked or don't give a shit. They will once they get to the mid-30's in their rank and the game all but forces you to spend some cash to get better weapons or characters as a lot of the starter and lower tier weapons aren't gonna help you much in the post-game dungeon.
@@zeemancan3713 CDPR knew what they were doing when they restricted game reviewers to being able to only play the PC version of the game. They knew their game was incomplete on consoles, especially last gen consoles, and they still released the game in order to manipulate both the reviewers and their customers for increased profits. CDPR (and any other company that does the same thing) need to be held accountable for this so gaming companies will stop doing it in the future.
Thank you for calling out these companies who sneak the micro transactions in post launch so it doesn't come out in the initial reviews. We have to stay vigilant on this sort of stuff and expose those shady practices to have any hope of keeping them in check.
Some are good although it depends on where someone draws the line between DLC and MTX. I play strategy games and different groups/factions/teams that are added after launch usually come at a price. Blood Bowl 2 allowed players to buy individual teams at $7 a piece and they came in 2 waves of 8 teams but you could buy them in bulk at like $20. This was asked for because it added more to the game. Civilization does the same thing with countries, but the newer countries are usually included with DLC that fully changes the game.
DLC is a form of micro-transaction, if said DLC has to be paid for. DLCs were asked for. People have legit said "I wouldn't mind paying a little more, for new features to ." There have even been people asking for cosmetics to some of their favorite games using the equivalent to "I wouldn't mind paying a little extra to make my character look nicer." so micro-transactions have been asked for in the past. What happened was game companies decided to go full predator on their customers.
Genshin Impact is not bad at all. The system is also simple once you understand the simple premise of a gacha game, if you want to gacha an character/item then you need a wish for a chance at characters/items. Wishes cost 160 primogems, those can be earned by playing through the game, looting chests, doing daily commissions, taking part in events, playing through the abyss and more. Sometimes the game gives you directly the wishes through missions, levelling up your character and advancing your adventure rank. The game is somewhat generous when it comes to giving you wishes, so you don't have to pay for genesis crystals that you trade for primogems. You pretty much don't need a 'meta' character to advance in the game, if you properly use artifacts and level up talents.
Man, this makes me want to see a probably really unethical in some ways experiment. Microtransaction controlled city traffic. For a year have a major city's traffic lights and such controlled solely through microtransactions. 1 dollar or whatever to increase/decrease the length of green/red lights stay lit. Allow both drivers and pedestrians bid and counter bid and adjust light length in real-time. For extra fucked-uppedness, traffic light poles or whatever can be specified, meaning some driver can pay ahead for the traffic lights for his route to his job and back home. Set up repeat payment plans and the like. How long until that city goes full on BioShock Rapture nuts I wonder.
in defense of branded skins i think it can be pretty cool as long as its part of something you already were going to buy. When i worked at buffalowildwings we had a promotion with Titan fall 2 that gave you a sick titan skin and like no one used it but me.
Honestly with all these micro transactions nowadays lately I’ve turned off from games. I’m to the point where I’m tired of spending money on extra shit that should have been in the game not locked behind a paywall.
In The Crew 2, Ubisoft went completely back on their word of never adding cars you couldn't buy with in-game currency but then a few months down the line they add the motor pass which has multiple cars that are only unlockable through real money. They added a premium-only car before, got hate for it removed it, and said they would never do it again and now here we are.
It honestly makes me sad that we're still dealing with this. I used to be okay with the cosmetics side, but now I'm even against that. I shouldn't have to pay $10 for a skin, why can't I just unlock it?
This shit has got to stop. But as long as dent heads & wheelchairs keep busting out their moms credit card for new fortnite skins, it's not going anywhere
I remember when expansions were a thing. I think crowdfunding expansions would be a great idea, but I have no idea how we could possibly regulate the amount of money spent on quality control in that scenario, as opposed to just lining the pockets of CEOs
EA: Want no more microtransctions, well then we have something for you buy our "screw you" DLC it also comes with lip stick and panties because we also want your dignity too.
To those saying "all microtransactions are bad": for live-service games, it's either that or subscription, I don't see any other options there. You can't expect to buy a live-service game for 80 dollars and get new stuff 5 years after launch. Subscription prices are usually pretty cheap, which means everyone can afford it so to differentiate from other players, you HAVE TO grind for stuff after paying that subscription. So if microtransactions are done right (obviously not many games do), you can decide how much you're willing to pay to get how much more fun, without necessarily making the game grindy or P2W.
This is why Im quickly becoming a retro gamer. Older games didn't have their design compromised by publisher greed (not all of the time obviously, but most of the time).
Destiny 2 eververse items ALL become free the season after they release. Seasons are usually about 3 months long. Also the current seasons premium eververse armor set is for sale on daily rotation, in the bright dust section of the store. (Bright dust is a free in game currency)
Considering Geshin Impact is free, of course it'll have microtransactions to support the game. On the other hand the owners of Geshin Impact, MiHoYo, are pretty generous when it comes with Primagems (special currency). You get it through multiple ways in-game such as just doing the Main Story and even some side quests and even Events. You can also get them in small amount when you open some of the chests you discover while running around and MiHoYo will even give player Primagems whenever something significant breaks such as character abilities not doing something they're suppose to or even with some bug fixes if those bugs are bad enough. While I'm not one to generally defend microtransactions especially for a game that I've already payed $60+ for, I've yet to sink even a single cent into Geshin Impact and ive done at least 100 wishes (in-game name of the loot boxes) and ive gotten a decent variety of rewards from it. Even if the game does work for mobile, it still works great on PC too.
Cosmetic items in games should not have to be bought with real money. Those should be earned. I'd be alright with paying for a season pass or DLC content that added a massive amount of new items/weapons or a larger map to the game though. Like how CoD use to let you buy map packs back in the day for like $15. Or how Battlefield 3/4 had all those "premium" maps that you could purchase if you wanted to.
Well I've maxed out almost everything in Genshin, I haven't made a single purchase, it's a fantastic game and I'm quite far(over half way) without any microtransactions.
@@joseromao4097 the game is very generous early on and you still get a decent amount of primogems (the currency used to summon for characters) later in the game I'm completely free to play and I have a good amount of 5* characters and almost all of the 4 stars, but you don't even need these characters, you can beat the entire game including the hardest content using the 7 free characters you get during the start of the game sure the microtransactions could be better and it seems like mihoyo are handing out more primogems recently, but I don't think this game should have been on the list, there are worse offenders out there

Not just BMW but all newer cars have some sort of subscription service. My Jeep Summit has something called Uconnect which can do things like control the vehicle locks with a smartphone or locate it using the GPS. I'm almost certain if the software were upgraded it could even drive itself like a Tesla since it can detect things around it, control the gas, brake, and steering as well so that might become a paid service if Crysler can get it working.
I feel like I have to point out something about add-ons in Microsoft Flight Simulator: it has always been like this; from the 1990s till the current day, there have always been paid addons for any flight simulator, be it Microsoft Flight Simulator, FSX, X-Plane, P3D etc. If you don't like payware addons there are freeware addons as well (which is also an equally old practice). Most paid addons are paid because they add actual high quality useful stuff; hard labour costs hard money. Of course there are many high quality freeware addons as well. It's up to you to choose what kind of addons you want.
Cus some people think or assume that quantity = quality. In my opinion if a dev makes a 30 hour game with great story and gameplay. You are doing it right but why make a 40+ hour game with a ton of fetch, guard, race , ect quests and extend the story with a bunch of filler "main story" missions, in which in the end all that felt out of place and like an after thought. Point is some companies can make it happen and others don't.
You hear this complaint about a game being too long frequently from games media/youtubers. Long games that are also very popular, like Assasin's Creed are a nightmare for them since they need to play them a lot in order to have reviews/podcasts redy for their launch. They resent having to work so much more for those kind of games. For everyone else as a normal player a long game can be a blessing, of course, if you happen to love what the game has to offer. More bang for your buck is always better.
I like what Warframe did, offer a premium currency that is still available to everyone by hard work of grinding and salesmanship. You can grind prime equipment to sell to other players for platinum which is the paid currency in the game.
A ton of the stuff sold in the eververse store is available for bright dust it’s just in a rotation. You can actually get pretty much every cosmetic for each season for free if you’re patient and you grind enough.
Putting it in after launch is even more scummy.
And yet people still buy it...

We want to hang with friends not buy our way so we can do the thing we enjoy the most
We should just by a game and that be it
All of them
Was really hoping that it'd be like this. Lol
True
Baat me to it
None of the cosmetic ones are a problem
people have offered to pay for more features, and for cosmetics, before micro-transactions were a thing.
You just pointed the reason why I stay away from sports franchise games FULL STOP!!!

Do people EVER ask for microtransactions?
The kids that spend their parents money on fortnite addiction do.

No
@@coraldiamond1922 Those are terrible parents
Hearing that last one pissed me off a little bit
@@JoaoPedro-sb5sq Didn't you have to buy something in that game just so you could use or see profanity in chat?

Genshin is a Gacha game. The whole "better character" thing is kinda standard in them.
What do you mean
And its pretty common in Asia, where it was made. So much that people over there don't care; its better for them to play a free game with cheap cosmetics than to buy a $60, pretty soon $70-80, game.
Wont lie if you find the characters you like you come out ahead and never have to hand in another dollar problem is the odds suck
but Genshin have two kind of gacha, characters, and weapons.

Thank you for calling out these companies who sneak the micro transactions in post launch so it doesn't come out in the initial reviews. We have to stay vigilant on this sort of stuff and expose those shady practices to have any hope of keeping them in check.

Destiny 2 is literally selling new Eververse armor with Bright dust every season (1 part of the set per week) + new raid armor looks rly good
Warframe let's you trade premium currency between players
“Full priced game” is now an ironic label
I like how the title of the video implies that there exist microtransactions that people DID ask for.
Cosmetic microtransactions and DLC that adds new shit is fine, not predatory bs.
DLC is a form of micro-transaction, if said DLC has to be paid for. DLCs were asked for. People have legit said "I wouldn't mind paying a little more, for new features to ."
There have even been people asking for cosmetics to some of their favorite games using the equivalent to "I wouldn't mind paying a little extra to make my character look nicer."
so micro-transactions have been asked for in the past.
As long as there are people willing to pay, there will be people to sell. It's business. The blame is on us gamers.
Exactly
It’s on whales

Half and half...
@@Highcoleture And what does that have to do with micro-transactions?

Ubisoft in a fucking nutshell
#1- All of them.
FIFA makes me sick man, the way EA handles it is so predatory and scummy, its THE worst case of corporate greed in all of gaming.
EA doesn't just do it in FIFA. They do it in all their games. And they wanna buy codemasters.

I know lots of people that bought ps4 only to play FIFA, no kidding they only play FIFA.
Not only on games. In the World!

Pay extra to get through the game faster? You could just watch walk-throughs on TH-cam for free

And here I thought Ubisoft had learned their lesson...

Cosmetic items in games should not have to be bought with real money. Those should be earned. I'd be alright with paying for a season pass or DLC content that added a massive amount of new items/weapons or a larger map to the game though. Not just BMW but all newer cars have some sort of subscription service. My Jeep Summit has something called Uconnect which can do things like control the vehicle locks with a smartphone or locate it using the GPS.

Why do people complain about a game being “too long” I don’t want less content for the same price.
