    One of the great things about these videos is that apart from seeing the right way to teach, it makes me realise (and gives me some comfort) that all PDIs seem to struggle with the same things I do. Thanks Howard, and well done to your PDIs for agreeing to do this

    She’s so sweet, you can see that she will be a good driving instructor. I can really relate to her. I am also on my part 3 going on a trainee licence soon, and I also muddle my words up and forget what to say because I get flustered by the speed that everything happens in. All the best for her, I hope she pass.

      Thanks, I'm sure too that she'll be an excellent instructor. I have said to her that people watching this will really relate to it because its such a common problem. Good luck with your training and I hope you get your words out too!

    She's a lovely lady and i''m sure she'll make a fabulous instructor. Her nerves and mistakes actually have given me confidence that I'm on the right path when DVSA finally allow me to take my Part III during Covid restrictions!

    The way you explain and teach is 100% helpful for the adi part 3 exam and become a good driving instructor..
    highly recommend your videos.

    It really is harder than it looks.
    Talking someone through sometimes takes high levels of confidence, any slight doubt and you loose precious time or cause confusions which can then spiral out of control. The main issue being that most full licence holders driver subconsciously competently, where to be a driving instructor you need to break that down and be able to drive consciously competently.
    Keep making these videos Howard, as a trainer you have a very calm and relaxed approach and as such I have a link on my website referring to your channel to help PDI's I am training.

    So funny to watch - I think every PDI gets totally overwhelmed and muddled up at first.

    29:57 popping your clutch in and coasting to the roundabout. Just wondering if that would be considered a driving fault. Wouldn't it be better to slow down and select 2nd gear as we approach?

    • @How-2-drive
      @How-2-drive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DVSA say we should be teaching one gear one hazard. System of car control. If we take 2nd gear on approach then realise that 3rd or 1st would have been better for the road speed, we end up making secondary gear selections or getting too much engine brakiing / or too slow. A good way to do it is, if its clear, take a gear and go!

      @@How-2-drive As a PDI I'm finding this a little confusing, compounded by having a diesel which wants to pull along all by itself without any gas. (you know what I'm talking about). So my general advice to students is to keep it in 2nd unless your going to be stopping or almost stopping, in which case select 1st. Very often this can be a pain in the arse, especially if they are let's say taking a sharp left turn at 5mph. The car wants to do 10mph, so they have their foot on the break and the engine is labouring. Obviously, for an experienced driver, they would just feather the clutch but that's beyond most students. So, are you saying that it's ok to approach the turn with clutch down and then once round the turn bring the clutch up?

    • @How-2-drive
      @How-2-drive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No coasting around the corners. Do the braking to slow, select an appropriate gear and go. Should all be done before entering the roundabout, corner, junction or whatever the hazard is. Works fine with petrol or diesel.. are you familiar with system of car control. Maybe read Roadcraft, works a treat
