Including that UPS USB connectivity feature is awesome! No reason to get one of those antiquated UPS brick units now. This can also tuck away even in a portable 10" mini-rack setup. Already replaced my old APC UPS1500 at my WFH desk with a Delta 3 Plus when that needed yet another replacement battery. For $209 it's a no brainer. Loving Ecoflow so far.
Wow, Ecoflow is making a helluva push down the stack. The value here is incredible! Also thanks for the Chain of Command clip, it did my heart good to see it. :)
Hey there fellow Arizonan. Enjoy your reviews! Just ordered the EcoFlow River 3 you recently reviewed . Have a great vacation & testing in Quartzsite !!!
You sold me on this one. Definitely cheaper than my EB3A when it first came out. It has a bit higher capacity and a USB connection for a PC UPS. Hobo code used. 👍👍
I can't find anyone testing the UPS communication yet. This would be the most interesting feature to know more about. I hope there is a follow up with that because most reviews just put the cable aside like they don't know what to do with it. I'd really like to see if this can get a NAS to shutdown before it runs out of power.
Tom, Thanks for the great video and promo code. Your timing is perfect because my EB3A just failed 4 months past the warranty period and Bluetti will not cover it, even though the overload failure is a common problem. Have a great vacation!
Actually, the (plain) River 3 has both 20ms and 10ms variants in markets outside the U.S.; in the U.S., there are two variations of the 20ms, with slightly different battery capacities (i.e., there are three variants in total.) The River 3 Plus showcased in this video is a different product, with 10ms switchover and a lot of useful features the River 3 does not have.
Thanks for the great review. I immediately went to the Eco flow website and ordered using the hobo discount code. Thanks for the great work. Keep it up.
Thanks! I bought a R3+ with the free solar panel using your code. I cant justify the full mack daddy expansion on this when it competes directly with the D3+.
Two immediate thoughts: The solar input limits are high enough that if you had any 12.8v or 25.6v LFP batteries, you could dramatically extend the runtime of this power station, without paying for the proprietary expansion battery. However, the expansion battery could also be charged with the output from any solar panel that comes with a built-in PWM controller and USB-C cable. I'm curious if you could do BOTH? I'll watch the rest of the video to see if you cover that.
@@HOBOTECH - Did you have the base unit and expansion battery charging simultaneously? I never saw that in the video, but you're saying that will definitely work? Yeah, the one limitation of using a regular battery is you have to have a means of charging it.
What can you say about the feature that the River 3 delivers 2X for appliances under 100W, double the runtime? I have not experienced that. The list of runtimes you showed does not reflect that.
@@narutobrokenIt's possible. Maybe a buck converter that activates only under 100 watts. Or something like that. A more efficient wire path . Id love to know as well.
It's because they use gallium nitride much like newer phone chargers. I have a River 3 powering my adjustable bed base, which draws 7 watts standby power. I can confirm that the battery lasts longer than the initial estimate after it is fully charged.
Hey there Prof. Hobo -Happy holidays to you and yours as well! So I have 2x Bluetti EB3A's myself, and have used them as UPS's since I received them in 2022. (That was a selling point, and it's even on the display!) But I had to send them back several times each before I got 1 that didn't have an OVERLOAD error while plugged into grid power and backing up my entertainment system. (60W peak) And that 1 I wanted to toss out the window from annoying fan noise! And after trying the other EB3A on my gaming 'puter, I got a Bluetti AC180 and that has worked peachy! (And especially with a LiTime 51.2V 30AH Golf cart battery as fake solar -tops out input at 500W) Now I have a Pecron E500 backing up my ent. system and it seems OK so far... But I also have 2x OUPES Exodus 600's and use 1 as a UPS for my work 'puter. (And a Mega 1 that I haven't tested much yet) Anyway, since I use or will use all of these devices a UPS's -since they would just sit around an collect dust until a power outage- and they all use LiFePo4 batteries and switch fast enough to be UPS's, maybe you could test the behavior of all of these devices as UPS's as part of your usual testing suite... e.g. behavior when always connected to grid and even PV inputs -fake or otherwise and powering some (even small) loads. After all, the EB3A seems perfect until used in this manner! 🍺😜👍
And I did buy the River 3 Plus! (Too slow to get the free solar panel though) And 3 of the cute little RAPID chargers! (This is my work acct) The RIVER 3 Plus will replace the APC Back-UPS Pro dinosaur I have for my DSL modem/router/switch/etc.

Took 2 weeks to get tech support to send me a return shipping label. Hope the replacement works better. Wish this had come out before I got the EB3A.
This sounds like an excellent way to keep my Wi-Fi and office equipment up and running when the power goes out. Would it be possible to charge this unit with the alternator charger I have for my Delta 2?
That's the only benefit I see. I could put three pieces behind my truck seat and make it into a mega zord when I park. But I wish I could have it reach 1500 whatts by stacking.
Hobo, I'm trying to match up the best power station to my diesel heater using the cig/carport outlet to optimize the station battery capacity rather than using an ACDC converter. Getting the glowplug powered up for the heater start-up takes a bit of power. After running the draw is very low ? Are there any reasonably priced stations with higher Amp cig plugs?
