Looks great. Suggestion: Cut the bottom off the plastic jug and install it upside down on the pole. Then when ready to empty unscrew the cap. The fruit won't get poked by the grabber.

Or you could just get crimp the metal ring on the far side of a pole net, sharpen the inside with a file and curve the metal ring away from you slightly so thenet catches the fruit when you pull. I been picking fruit for years that way.. no welding, no cutting, just bending the ring on a cheap net and a file to sharpen a cutting edge. If the fruit doesn't come off when you pull, it's not ready.
I watched this video and your other one with the pvc pipe. This one seems the better tool for picking those key limes that you are using it for. They seem to be tough little boogers to pick. Great idea!
While this is a fantastic idea and works well, i must stress the dangers of welding galvanised metal bfre grinding back a portion of galvanised material to clean metal. If u do not do this the welding process gives of arsenic gas which WILL kill you if inhaled. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
It'll still kill your shoulders to do that for any length of time. Roll out a plastic mat under the tree and give it a good shake. The ripe fruit will drop and all you need do is fold the plastic mat towards the tree. Make a Tool that lays the plastic mat and shakes the tree next? :)
You do know they have a fruit picking tool on a nice long handle with a large basket too. I have one, works wonderful and won't rust or cut up the tree like yours.
If the regular size as the one you use for oranges and lemons, then on trees with calamondin and other small fruit it will not work. 1) the basket does not allow you to get into dense folage very well. 2" the fruit is small so the grabber end does not grab as well.

Cool ! Try using an old claw hammer head on a shovel handle instead and save the square stock and welding rods for equipment repairs 😃

For asians,lime are harvested almost ripe. Not fully ripe. Cannot be shaken. It will not fall out
