I watch this movie anytime it's on. Have seen it so many times. Patricia Neil is so incredible. Her expression is best when she's approaching Gort. Watch her jaw quiver. And the powerful expression she has when she comes up to Klattu and asks him if he has the power of life and death. Just such a great movie. It is THEE Sci Fi movie of all time.
I saw "Day" when It first was released in a REAL movie theatre! I was 8 years of age...my mom, dad, and I loved that motion picture. Four other Sci-Fi classics of the decade are favorites of mine: Destination Moon, 1950; When Worlds Collide, 1951 [think of Noah's Ark!]; War of the Worlds, 1953; and The Time Machine. All spanned a full decade. 1950-60. Saw all of these upon initial release as well.
GREAT FILM INDEED !! LOVED IT ! R.I.P. TO ALL THE CAST & CREW WHO WERE INVOVLVED. MIICHAEL RENNIE R.I.P. - THE VERY BEST " ALIEN " EVER . FROM U.K. (2021).
@@jakespivey3716 B.S. If anyone "destroyed" The Magnificent Ambersons, it was Orson Welles. It was his film, but he walked away from it, and left it in the hands of others. Welles did this type of thing throughout his career. A talented director, but I think he suffered.from ADHD.
On Saturday March 3rd 1962 Saturday Night at the Movies premiered “The Day the Earth Stood Still “ . I was seven and my older brothers and sister watched on a 19” black and white Zenith tv. I was stunned and electrified by this masterpiece but not frightened. No movie had made this kind of impact in my short life . This will always be my favorite 50s SciFi classic .
To be informed now of the problems and and restrictions placed on those who produce movies and videos for the public I never knew existed !!! I now wonder if they have any freedom other than to be able to comment on their own flatulence when they are alone ??? Those who produce these movies go through hell for our entertainment !!!
It was kinda naive to think the Russians didn't have the same goals of global supremacy as the current day communist Chinese. I don't think acquiescing control of your future to a bunch of robot overlords is a sound solution. It was a solid sci-fi film but, a bit heavy handed toward the end.
One of the finest movies I have ever seen. It has relevance to us even today.

Patrick McMullen: Forbidden Planet is a contender too. IMO.

Robert Wise was not only a great Director...he was a great guy.
He directed some really good films but, helped destroy Magnificent Ambersons" hard to forgive.
