Just wanted to comment to announce that I'm the proud owner of a terracota raincoat lined with leopard print which is always a fun surprise for people since they don't quite expect a guy to wear leopard print i guess. I inherited it from my mother and it makes rainy days so much happier

I recently went secondhand shopping for the first time with my sister and it's been the best shopping experience I've ever had. We had so much variety in styles to choose from and because of that we ended up feeling a lot more satisfied with the clothes that we bought. It generally gives me a lot of anxiety going shopping, but this time I felt a lot more relaxed and free to take my time looking around, actually enjoy the process and find a piece of clothing I love.

I love hearing (and telling) clothing stories SO MUCH!!! I live in the States but some of my favorite secondhand purchases were made in London, like a giant men's silk and wool slubby sweater I got my first time ever in an Oxfam shop about 23 years ago that I still wear every winter, and a steampunky black linen kilt-y skirt that I made a nice lady take off a mannequin in a charity shop right near the William Morris gallery in Walthamstow last December.

Love the items! The “crazy” dress too. Maybe if you’d alter it and take away the long sleeve it would be a bit more wearable though?😍 and I definitely agree with the overflow of lower quality, modern stuff in second hand stores. It’s harder finding well made items nowadays, they are always hidden between a bunch of fast fashion items. I think a lot of people who still shop extreme fast fashion excuse their shein hauls or similar with “Oh I’ll just donate it and it’s ok”. No. No it’s not.

I love second hand - was late teens and starting uni in the 70s when second hand became very fashionable anyway. Bought a vintage and VERY worn moleskin jacket, a silk scarf, and sundry other items all second hand. My Nana (unknown to me) had the jacket re-pieced and it was stunning. Would never buy fur any other way than 2nd hand! Nowadays I am too big to easily find clothes in 2nd hand shops, because "we" wear things until they DIE!

This year I went rouge.. On second hand silk shopping (in person, my lunch breaks got quite expensive 😹). My BF shirts, my shirts and blouses, trousers and now my first "designer" item from the big names. YSL jacket - it fits me and my style and is silk, I left it in the shop and went there after work again to grab it if it stayed (proof for me that I am not starry eyed just because the label). I was always shopping second hand out of necessity, now it is fun and blessing of having for "normal" prices luxurious items (in terms of make and material). I also got few leather pieces I absolutely adore. I needed style shift, most of my old pieces are staying in rotation, but what stopped working is slowly replaced. And my sewing begginings were ofter about cheep fabrics, so often plastic, so I am overturning wardrobe for the wear out and "no longer nice to be in". Love your treasures, nothing of it would work in my wardrobe but that is part of the second hand fun, no two same❣

I love second hand, im much older than you and have been buying second hand most of my life. I Granma used to take me to flea markets and jumble sales when I was a little girl in the 70s, as I grew into my teens most of my clothes were found in her wardrobe and Afflecks Palace in Manchester. As I’ve grown older it’s become so much easier to find gems both online and in charity shops. I’m proud to say even my 13 year old son likes to have a look around second hand shops for bits and pieces from books, to gaming even to fashion items. Moreover, thankfully it’s become trendy and worthy of bragging rights to “find a bargain” Kx

This was fun, thrifting definitely creates much more fun creative expressive wardrobes. I recently bought a very 1980s shoulder padded navy jumper that has sparkly thread, embroidery and buttons in a sort of faux cardigan style. It was only £5.99 and I'm delighted with it, it has even machine washed perfectly on a cold wool wash. I also got a fancy linen Kaliko jacket for £1, and a beautiful John Lewis wool and cashmere black long belted coat for £12 so the thrift gods have been shining down!

my favourite second hand items are both outerwear actually. one is a bright orange super warm winter coat i got for 15 euros at a flea market like 7? years ago and its been my go to winter coat ever since. It was warm enough for Finnish winters when i lived there and i love having a winter coat that is a bright colour. the other one was an actually quite expensive (for being second hand) leather jacket i got for 80 euros from a vintage shop in Budapest but it is dyed in swirly pastel colours and it has become my signature jacket that people recognize me by, ive worn it constantly since i got it in 2017, and i love it so much that it has repaid the price manifold.

I love shopping second hand for the same reasons you are. It's just so much more fun! An added bonus - I never feel bad about the size I'm buying. Sizing is so confusing and frustrating and in a second hand store it's either it fits or it doesn't fit and I don't have to feel bad for whichever size the item is in. Don't particularly enjoy doing second hand online, but luckily there are sooo many great options to go to in person in Helsinki. If you come here on vacation check out the closest UFF store. They are charity based, super cheap and have tons of great stuff!

I have two vintage shops (not thrift stores) that I've decided are worth the extra expense. Both shops are very clear about cleaning/washing *everything* that goes up for sale in their store, including stain removal (one of the shop owners used to do laundry tips on her instagram), and made repairs if there were seam rips or lost buttons. All things I know how to do, but am really good at putting off those tasks forever, so I will be okay paying more than thrift store prices at vintage stores that provide those extra services.

I found them separately for $5-7 and I just adore them. They're the perfect transition piece in fall and spring when the sun might be out but its still a little nippy. I also definitely believe in a lined trench/raincoat. Because it can get really nippy in the fall or the springtime, and I dont believe in sacrificing body heat for the fit.

Love the raincoat! I haven’t thrifted in a bit, but I did a clothes swap recently and got a blue and orange striped t shirt that is now a mainstay. (Actually, many of the items from that swap are now in high rotation.) My favorite secondhand garment is a vintage neon paisley on black late 60s maxi hostess dress with a high neck and cutout and I did pay vintage prices for it but I’ve worn it many times and it brings me joy every time I see it.

ooh, that yellow jumper is probably very well made if it doesn't pill! generally, lower-quality and/or shorter-fiber wools/cottons/etc pill a lot more easily, especially if they're more loosely/shoddily spun. as I understand it, it's a problem a lot more of the modern garment industry, as it's cheaper to use lower quality fiber and it's cheaper to pay less attention to how well the thread is spun, and fast fashion brands seem to be always finding new ways to cut corners. so that sounds like a fantastic jumper!

What pieces of utter fabulousness! I love them all and you’ve sent me on a feverish hunt on Vinted for similar. Thanks for the new inspiration on a couple of those makes I hadn’t heard of. I love your clothes and your clothes videos. ❤

Next week is Thrift Shop Day. It's on Thursday, but I have to work. But I'm celebrating by going on Monday with a friend and on Wednesday with my Mum. I don't really need anything, so probably won't be buying much. The latest find for me, is that in my area of the globe, we have a secondhand haberdashery. There is no such thing as buying new fabric anymore.

I found a 100% cotton purple sweater in a vintage shop a few months ago. It was $20-25, which is a little more than I’d pay at a non-curated thrift store, but it is my new favorite sweater. I can’t wait to wear it more when the weather cools down in the fall.
About the higher prices of vintage shops, they have to pay their rent, workers, etc and they have fewer items to generate that income. Also, some places buy their pieces, instead of having them donated, so that’s an added expense

I'm currently at the point of not having a lot of stuff that fits me in my closet because I'm bigger than I've ever been before and I'm super dreading shopping but genuinely don't have many pieces to wear anymore and it's all making me really anxious, because I feel like I'm not gonna find cute things second hand (or it will a lot of hastle at least) and I don't want to buy fast fashion... So thank you for showing these cool pieces, I've been perusind vinted a bit (somehow closing the app without having found something doesn't feel as bad as having spent half a day in the shops and not having found anything) but seeing your items makes me want to try and go in person this weekend!

I love that jumper!! It probably is a cotton blend- cotton tends not to pill as much because the fibers will just break of. Synthetics are weak enough to degrade, but tough enough to hold onto damaged fibers, resulting it serious pilling

Love this!! That raincoat is outstanding.
I love bargain hunting in charity shops for everything not just clothes, but re. clothes, the ones in colour themed racks are my favourite for not feeling too overwhelmed with rummaging. Vinted has been great for finding specific items I'm after e.g. green high waisted flared jeans for example, which maybe aren't in 'fashion' right now but I want anyway.

I absolutely love that green linen dress you made. Am absolutely not scouring vinted for a set of linen sheets myself... The only thing I might add is some godets from the waist down for maximal swoosh, but that can still be cut almost zero waste, if I cut long rectangles out and then cut along the diagonal... Hmmmm. Too many sewing plans to keep up with.

Love this video so much! I'm so nosy about other people's wardrobes 😅
Charity/vintage shops overwhelm me but I love that depop and vinted has made secondhand shopping so much more accessible for me. There's something SO satisfying about finding something secondhand that you love.
My best secondhand find has been a pair of stripy orange/yellow/black/white culottes which fit me really well and are a summer staple. It came with a belt which I removed and now I have a matching hair tie.

I absolutely loved watching you and all of the joy you get from your favorite clothes! I also have a £1 charity shop cardigan that has lasted me over 10 years since University! not quite as jazzy as yours it’s a burgundy, baggy men’s one in a material that doesn’t pill at all, has been worn many hundreds of times 😁. i’m also obsessed with your leopard print raincoat, getting on Vinted hunt one of those down ❤

My most prized possession clothing wise is a jumper with a chicken on it I found on eBay. It's handmade and I just love the idea of someone spending time and effort on putting a large chicken on a jumper and now I get to love it. It is my special occasion jumper.

Yep, I get really annoyed when I shop in charity shops and the prices on most of the clothing is soo over priced I know it's for charity but come on guys!! Be reasonable! They used to be cheaper but even charity shops have upped the price. 😣🤔 Love Kazzaroo ~x~

I just went thrifting yesterday! My biggest success was my most boring one XD I finally found a couple of dress pants that fit and are my preferred style (not high-waisted or skinny-legged or too short for me) but more excitingly I found a bird t-shirt, a hot air balloon blouse, a white and yellow striped button up that I am currently removing pockets from and going to add an extra button to (yay for me actually doing my mending and not putting this off for months!) and a cute pair of embroidered shorts.

I do the same regarding looking through everything at secondhand shops, disregarding sizes and even gender. Sometimes I find the best pieces that way, and it's really important to look in different sizes section with vintage clothing anyway. A vintage size 16 could fit like modern size 12 but it still put in the "size 16" section, so it's a good way to make sure you don't miss out!

I do a fair bit of dressmaking but recently I’ve been preferring different styles and not knowing what to sew, and I’ve fallen in love with Vinted! I love that I can either find really unique styles that I can’t get on the high street easily, or I can search specifically for styles I already know I love, like high waisted trousers and crop tops. Plus I’ve got some gorgeous dresses for pretty cheap prices. It takes a bit of scouring but it scratches the new clothes itch

One of my favorite fabrics of all time, at least for tops, sweaters and such is Viscose, which I think is also called rayon? It's so cosy and soft 😊 the only thing is, that if you have been sweating in it, it will stay wet for a long time 😳
A newer love is Tencel, though it seems sweat markings seem to stay even after washing 😭 Really sad as I love the feel of it!

Last week I went second hand shopping with a friend in France. We didn't actually buy anything, but had so much fun just looking around and trying things on. Especialy one of the shops had a lot of hand made items that were absolutely stunning. Just a pity that they weren't our size/style 😅

I just moved from Europe to NYC for an internship, so what I could pack was limited by airline restrictions & my budget is restricted by the fact that I‘m not getting paid. In the past two weeks, I‘ve managed to find a work appropriate blazer, wool-blend skirt and knit dress, as well as two silk scarves for accessorizing - for a total of about $50 in various secondhand and thrift stores.
