I appreciate you giving a shout out to acrylics. People bash it so much especially in the knitting community. I started crocheting years ago and had no idea how people in the knitting community just turn their nose up at acrylic. I love natural yarns but I use acrylics because it is affordable and sometimes I just use it for stuff I want to toss in the machine instead of hand washing. Lol. No one has time for that to hand wash everything. I get so many complements on my hand made knits and crochet garments and most of it is acrylic or blends.
Ditto! I love wool and natural fibres but I also love acrylic yarn. Like you said, it's affordable, and as someone who loves making garments and is a 2XL, I can't afford to buy sweater's quantities of wool (let alone hand dyed yarn!) for every project. I also don't have the energy to worry about hand washing or laying flat to dry everything. There are also just lots of fun textures and colours that come affordably in acrylic that it's hard to find in animal/natural fibres. Fair enough if people don't want to use acrylic as a personal preference but the yarn snobbery and judgement is eye-rollingly silly lol.
1000%!!! I'm totally team "just chuck it in the washing machine"! 😂 At the end of the day, you do you! It’s all about enjoying the process and creativity behind the piece that matter most. Sounds like you’re making some incredible garments, Erika!
I hope you feel better soon, Kristin 😊. I really enjoyed this episode with all the lovely projects! You look like you’re having so much fun with beadwork.
I've been watching your channel for years and bought your yarn when I lived in Texas. Now I live in the Netherlands and it's such a weird but so nice feeling to see you were here! ❤ The Netherlands is really amazing I'm so glad you enjoyed your time 🇳🇱
Aww, thank you so much for watching my channel all these years and for enjoying my yarn, Angie! ❤ How amazing that you’re now living in the Netherlands- I'm kind of jealous! 😆 It’s such a beautiful place and would love to visit again! 🌷🇳🇱💖
I * just* started knitting a nice oversized cardigan! Big wide stripes, very 80s, which is perfect because that’s my generation anyway. Can’t wait to cozy up in it!
Hope you feel better soon. All your projects are fabulous. I'm a little sad that you're going to frog your Stromboli sweater, but I get it. Thank you for defending Petite Knits patterns. They are definitely classics and so wearable. I love her patterns. BTW, you really nailed it on your blue yarn update. Wow!
So, I always watch your videos (partially cuz I enjoy the moody colors), but I was also super interested in hearing about your Amsterdam trip. As someone who lives there, I'm always curious as to what people think. I hope you kept warm. It has been so cold.
Kristin…you are so talented! Not only with your knitting, yarn dyeing but the beading…wow! Just so beautiful! Your sweater looks so cozy and hope you feel better!❤
I think the apparent snobbery around acrylic is not always about “ cheapskate”, it’s about the plastic content getting into our water systems and I suppose in the manufacturing of it.
I decided this year that I'm only going to buy budget yarn, and buy expensive yarn for one project. I like to support small companies and my local yarn shop, but this year I need to be on a budget. Glad to hear you use acrylic yarn, too!
I’m going to guess that you bought a full size loom… I saw the post where you showed many parts on the floor that you were putting together and I can’t wait to see. ❤
The sweater came out amazing. Nothing wrong with acrylics or acrylic blends. I started that way when I first learned crocheting and knitting 🧶 I still use these blends for blankets and hats for people who can’t wear other fibers. While some people think it’s cheaper I don’t see that the price is just as pricey. Well I can say the blending is a bit better too. Trust me I grew up on Red Heart and that wasn’t bad either. Bravo to you. Love your trip going to Amsterdam is on my bucket list. ❤. I have no issues as to frogging projects and get that what is the sense to finish if it’s not your jam. I have tons to detach myself. Lmao😅. What knitter doesn’t. As always thank you for always great content.
Hey happy merry everything. Just finished your video and the Stromboli top don’t rip/frog it. Add a ribbing like the bottom and make it a cowl. It would go well with your Eva Cardigan. Or gift it. It’s super cool lady.
I have always been bothered by the upside down yarn band thing too! Now that I work at a yarn shop, I asked my boss about it one day, and I guess it's so that when you lay a skein on it's side in a shop cubby, you can see the nice top part of the skein and the label won't be upside down from that point of view. I still hate it tho. lol of course, then i unpause and they had it hanging anyway? lol, nvnd me. i think i know what i'm talking about sometimes. 😆
Weather in the 20’s feels like summer here. We’re going to have negative numbers next week in Vermont. It has been frigidly cold here this winter. But I’d rather have that than snow. When I used to ski, then I would rather have the snow, but because I can’t anymore, I’d rather have the cold temps and just get it over with. As far as bicycles, that’s great if you don’t have an injury. I wonder what people do in Denmark if they have an injury? Probably use a car! 🖤
All I can say is that I've experienced -20ºF when visiting Montreal. Anything above 20ºF feels tolerable for me, now 😂 Snow is pretty but totally agree - cold temps are better (and safer!) than snow. I'm so sorry you have a knee injury. Dennis has one and it can be a total killjoy when it comes to skiing/snowboarding. When all else fails... CAR FTW! 🙌
Yep! I didn’t reinforce before cutting since the yarn is “sticky” enough to hold its shape (the fibers naturally cling to each other). The cut edges rolled up slightly, and I whip-stitched them to secure everything in place. For slippery yarns like silk, though, I’d definitely recommend reinforcing first. Hope that helps! :) ETA: I picked-up and knit the button band first, before steeking.
Yes, I was! With no problem 😅 The only time I had metal circular needles taken away was flying home from Mexico. I always keep a spare pair of wooden DPNs in my notions pouch or wallet for when that happens. ;)
The inly reaaons why Idont use acrylics are because I get way too hot in them and because we are off grid water wise - I dont want any more microplastics on my property than necessary, and our septic system is a worm based composting system and I'm sure the worms don't do so well on it either. 90%+ of our clothes are natural fibres. Its a pity because there are some really beautiful acrylic yarns
I completely understand! As I mentioned in another comment, I think we’re all trying to do what we can to be environmentally sustainable where and when we can. It’s amazing that you’ve found a system that works so well for your lifestyle-90% natural fibers is incredible! IMO, it’s all about balance.
Love your channel and really enjoy following all of your crafty endeavors! So fun watching you go down the beading rabbit hole. I, too, enjoy dabbling with beading and can't wait to try a beaded crochet bracelet. There is something so satisfying about things that marry multiple crafts. Seed beads, small crochet hooks and a different type of thread....sign me up! I've also enjoyed many of the beaded jewelry tutorials on Bronzepony's TH-cam channel. Happy crafting!
We do it! 😅 I used to ride mine all around the Upper East side and through Central Park when I was a teenager - way before bike lanes. A few close calls but I lived to tell the tale 😂

Aww, thanks so much. 🥰🥰🥰
The Heaven Cardigan by Pope Vegara has beadwork in the back that looks really similar to your beadwork projects. So beautiful 🥰

Oooh! runs off to learn more about saiori weaving 🏃🏻♀🏃🏻♀🏃🏻♀
I agree with you about Petite Knit….she’s very talented and her patterns are really well written!! Thank you!

Hello from Swansea, Illinois. ❤❤❤
Helloooo, Janet! 👋💖

Weird the Stromboli yarn looks teal from afar (can see that it’s gray in the closeup) but I think a dark teal sweater would suit you.
You should make that lolite fringe at a larger scale so it could be a fun purse.
NC continues to need prayer. 🥺

@@VoolenvineDouble ankle injury….my third winter with it….horrid.
I’m confused! You didn’t reinforce before or after you cut? Only the whip stitch and picking up the button band?

Were you able to take those needles on the plane? I really want to take my metal circulars when I go to Germany.
Yes, I was! With no problem 😅 The only time I had metal circular needles taken away was flying home from Mexico. I always keep a spare pair of wooden DPNs in my notions pouch or wallet for when that happens. ;)

Riding a bicycle in NYC 😳
We do it! 😅 I used to ride mine all around the Upper East side and through Central Park when I was a teenager - way before bike lanes. A few close calls but I lived to tell the tale 😂
Get to Joann’s for yarn before they shut down.
🍀💕🌺🌺🌺
I love your show and all your content. Just to nit pick, the skein is pronounced SKANE, not SKEEN. Sorry. Can't help myself.
The West Wool used to be Texel and Falkland but they changed it. 😢
That's a bummer! I get it though ... sometimes yarn brands have to use workarounds. It's still super lovely yarn!
