Filmed 22 Jan 1994. Cast by John Taylor & Co in 1925 and weighing 191-1-19 in Eb, Great George is Britain's 7th largest bell and is hung in the Wills Memorial Tower of Bristol University.
Amazing how the ringer can get a 2 ton bell going by adding a just a little pull on each swing. It must have really good bearings - not much friction at all.
I've had a question appear on my Great George video which I'm sure someone in Bristol can answer: how was Great George actually brought into the belfry? Up through the building or as I suspect, hoisted outside and in through a window?
