    I'm on my second brew now. I used black tea for both. 10 days for first and the second 13. I went out of town and couldn't get it. I like it sour tho. I enjoy it plain but this second batch I just added raspberries and a mix of raspberries and blueberries. I had just put in fridge before I watched this video. Took them out! So glad I caught this.

    Only 3 days for F2?! Cool!
    I did 10 days for F1 and was gonna do 7 days for F2 because I thought it was necessary!

    Love your video, thank you. It’s straight forward, I love that. I was just getting ready to bottle my very first batch and I pulled the top Scoby out and I have two others in there and I assume I put them all three in the Scoby hotel? However, when I stir it I have all this black stringy stuff, what do I do with that? I don’t see any in yours when you stir yours?

    • @therootedfruit5350
      @therootedfruit5350  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The stringy stuff is black? or like a darker color? That's apart of the scoby yeast if it's like a dark brown color, doesn't hurt anything! It's from the scoby maturing. Yes, you can put the other scoby's in the scoby hotel with some starter tea until you need them! (Also, sorry for this late response!) Thanks for watching the video!

      if you let them sit for too long, they could I suppose. but if you let air out of them in the F2 before refrigerating them they'll probably pop as in the kombucha will geyser out the top!

    I think I was turning over my kombucha too soon, I was told to end the first ferment after 4-5 days in the summer to prevent it from going vinegary but it really wasn’t that carbonated, and only a little additional carbonation was added during the second ferment....

    • @therootedfruit5350
      @therootedfruit5350  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey Danielle! Yes try leaving the first ferment a few days longer, it totally depends on where you live and if it gets colder in the winter or not (Hawaii stays fairly warm year round) so the colder it is in weather, the longer you should let it first ferment! :)

    • @therootedfruit5350
      @therootedfruit5350  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you like carbonated kombucha, don't burp them! I've exploded bottles before so I learned that I should let them 2nd ferment at room temp for a few days withOUT burping them, and then BEFORE opening them to drink, put them in the fridge over night or for the day before opening them! This will slow the carbonation process down and trap the bubbles in the liquid! Hope this helps!

    Hello! Hoping you can help me :) I've tried my second ferment but I didn't get any carbonation from it. Any tips on what I did wrong? Maybe I pulled the first ferment too soon?

    • @therootedfruit5350
      @therootedfruit5350  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! It's very possible you pulled the first ferment too soon, depending on the climate where you live, the first ferment usually needs a bit longer in colder temps! (Like winter time). It could also be the vessels in which you put the first ferment in, or not enough sugar! It's a bit like an experiment sometimes, so try tweaking a few things to see what works. My suggestion would be try leaving the first ferment a little longer, if it still isn't super carbonated, then try some of the other things I mentioned :) Hope this helps, let me know!

    • @therootedfruit5350
      @therootedfruit5350  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! Try leaving them in the fridge for a full day and a half. it sounds like you let the second ferment go a bit longer than it needed. The cold (fridge) should help slow down the carbonation process and help trap the carbonation in the liquid. So keep them in the fridge for at least a day and a half! Sorry that happened -I've been there! haha

    • @therootedfruit5350

      I suppose you could, it just takes longer for the whole gallon to carbonate. Once you open it the carbonation begins to lessen. This video is for simple home-brewing, I know companies do big batches at a time with better equipment. This is just the way I found to do it with what I had at home! :)

      @@therootedfruit5350 I’m lost what makes the carbonation putting it in small bottles into dark places for a couple days or just adding fruit makes it carbonate

    • @therootedfruit5350
      @therootedfruit5350  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@troyterrell5666 when you put it in smaller bottles it's less turnover time for the scoby to eat the sugar (resulting in carbonation faster). so you can do it in a big sealed jar it'll just take a bit longer cause the scoby has more to turnover (hopefully that made sense)
