June 2nd's patch changed the Necrosis mod dramatically: Now, they count as a 1.5x weakspot (+50% damage) and if they're on 2x or x3 weakpoint, they'll instead become a x2 or x3 weakpoint On top of this, blisters now properly transfer all overkill damage to the target; it's no longer capped by it's remaining HP.
A lot of people view Blistering Necrosis as a "Spawn weakspots for your team OC" but honestly with the way it works and it is shipped it seems to be another "Complement your primary" option. You get a ton of value with it from your direct stream damage multiplication damage carrying over and the 80 extra damage is some nice burst. Remember, if they got more legs than two, the warcrimes continue
The issue is how fast the boils break, and the weapon switch time. If you want boils to multiply primary damage you will need to repeatedly swap back to cooker to spawn more boils because the boils get popped very quickly by all your primaries. Swapping back and forth each time winds up slowing things down a lot compared to using boils to boost cooker damage, since you're also attempting to spawn more boils at the same time that way.
@@LazyMaybe With the flamethrower you're better off running temp shock for single target damage. With Cryo the blisters are redundant since you can just freeze enemies; plus you could use Ice Storm for a massive damage boost or just destroy frozen enemies with your Subata/Drills/Allies instead. And the Goo Cannon can't fire through enemies, so requires much more effort to be effective. This on top of Goo having really good DoT, which the boils will ignore entirely. Plus why do that when you can stack Corrosion, Floor Corrosion, Irradiation, and two types of neurotoxin for huge DoT and slowdown. (Wavecooker has it's own Neurotoxin seperate from the grenade/Gunner effects)
@@LazyMaybe I found it useful to spread boils around a crowd or stuff a beefy enemy with them, swap to the crisper (face melter, usually) for a massive damage boost Amazing for deleting any dreadnaught, pretorians and set enemies up for later when I see them away

I'm the opposite, driller doesn't have primary weapons that benefit from weakpoints besides ice spear, so a multiplier for your radial damage to boost your single target is very welcome. I've had good success on elimination with sludge blast + necrosis
@@kubaGR8 They have been doing well for me. Blister a prat and throw an axe on it, seems to pretty much take it out. Sludge pump shotgun OC helps too when built for numerous fragments. There was some good vids on the "cancer ray".
@@brockwidmann9210 I guess it works if you set off the blister with the AoE part of the axe. So like, land the axe right next ot it on a Praet's ass. Landing them directly on it seems like a bad idea, though.
I do think the Colette does, in a number of its strengths, have a lot of overlap with the Drillers primaries, but I also really like just how reliable it feels at longer ranges. I've never really been too fond of the EPC and the Subata only really feels good with the full auto OC to me, at which point it does feel pretty nice but also becomes pretty unreliable at long ranges. So for that I do quite like this as a new option, even if it does feel a bit weird to use since it doesnt quite give the feedback most other guns do when shooting em. Edit: Okay I have found one big issue with the gun after a while, and that is that it does not make a microwave "ding" sound whenever it overheats, and really thats just inexcusable.
About Blistering Necrosis: enemy projectiles can hit and hurt them. If you put a blister in the mouth of an enemy that can spit projectiles, it will block the shot and deal +50% dmg to the enemy itself.
After running a several missions with it, i very much liked it. Easily, the Cooker is a perfect successor for the Heavy Hitter EPC when used with Sludge Pump. Perfect secondary for the Sticky Flames CRSPR too. Just love the feeling of bursting enemies from the inside out.
You know it’s starting to seem like the main theme for this set of weapons is meant to broaden utility. They aren’t the strongest weapons outside some niches but they end up providing some support that wasn’t their at the time. And I know many min maxers will see the numbers and think “trash weapon” not seeing this and throw it away. As I think these weapons can be cause for some interesting combos. But no, this damn thing has so much going on and stuff you just can’t see if you are just looking at numbers and be kind of baffled by. The blisters OC being just the cherry on top of this Erdrich horror of a dessert. So glad this video could end up helping me what I want out of this weapon. People who min max don't know what they're missing, especially with the crossbow or the wave cooker. Pheromone darts on a Boltshark maxed for ammo efficiency makes for a great utility for getting bugs to attack each other, with very little need to replenish ammo if you use the darts right and remember to pick up any you miss.

Even though they patched repeated tier 5 A, it will still work with any stick flame build. Just lay down some fire, use the cooker to hit the temp shock whilst they are in the fire, and you can trigger the temp shock over and over as long as they bug is in stick flames! it is possibly the best single target damage to ammo consumption the driller has as this time.
Just did a haz5 with the mega power supply. It was like spraying the grunts with boiling hotdog water. Yeah it worked but I was REALLY regretting not using the penetrant OC.
I love the colette, idk why it gets so much hate... Being able to clear giant swarms on naedocites from the other side of the map just feels so satisfiying. I think the devs knocked it out of the park with this secondary. With boiler ray builds I can finally comfortably take single-target, utility, or ammo-hungry primaries which opens up a lot of builds for Driller. Definitely my favourite of the bunch.
Flawless overview of it's strengths/weaknesses, usage cases, scenarios. The video sports excellent BGM too! Recognized everyone and made me smile while being educated on the weapon.
This was very well made. The footage fits the information displayed perfectly and makes understanding what difference everything makes much easier to understand.
This breakdown was incredibly useful and very well put together. I play on haz 3 primarily and I was somewhat disappointed in how this weapon performed when I tested it out. Thanks for giving me some ideas on how to tweak it a bit. I would love to see breakdowns like this for every weapon eventually. Great work.
love that this vid cleared up the wave cookers damage type and the effect of boiler ray. I had interpreted boiler ray as an effect like shatter for the cryo, but knowing its actually like the t5 crispr mod is super helpful. I was also confused why it didn't seem to do double or normal damage to mactera, doing half fire damage clears that up too. I still think this gun could use some balancing, focus lens seems very useless for not increasing damage potential per ammo or per heat, and tiers 2 and 3 are pretty boring/obvious for a vast majority of builds. that plus the guns weak performance with raw damage makes it pretty boring to build, you generally optimize for secondary effects and sustain and thats it. the dps focused ocs, wide lens, and clip size don't have much use.
I notice that the Temp-ShockOTron seems to outshine the other builds for gun, similar to how people almost always run Thinc-Containment-Field on the EPC. Which is a shame because I also like the DoT stacking build but blowing up hordes of fronzen/burning grunts while doing big damage to the big bugs at the same time just seems way better.
I used to run thin containment field on EPC until I realized that I could build it for fire damage and use it to set my sludge puddles on fire, making for a really decent crowd control build since I only need to shoot the sludge a couple times to set it on fire and then keep on laying down sludge since the sticky flames on the sludge will keep on spready as long as there's more sludge connected to it, and it will remain for as long as the sludge remains. Honestly, it's better than a sticky flames build for the flamethrower, though it does leave you without a decent ranged secondary for far away targets that need to be taken out.
As a driller main I love this video! Thanks for making such a comprehensive and easy to follow explanation of such a complicated weapon. Would love to see more builds from you as well.
I like to use Gamma lense along side the sludge. If you build it right you can completely remove all movespeed from some big enemies aswell as deal huge amounts of DOT.
Great stuff man, love watching technical videos like these. I recommend running the tempshock build with sticky flames, shooting under the target first let's you build heat again quickly.
Thanks for the amazing guide 🙏 This weapon is quite simple, but so nuanced to get right. I feel like I never get it right unless I just do the thermo shock mod
I could see a pure swarm popper build with it gun absolutely shining in one very specific, but very sought after combination. The Swarmaggedon/golden bugs combo, where you face significantly fewer single tank enemies, but more swarms, where you as a player want to remain in the cave system as long as possible.
One of the effects the T3 temperature mod claims is keeping frozen/ignited targets in that state. I'm curious how well that works on Dreadnoughts? Freezing a dread normally requires pretty tight timings to get the damage in, and I'm thinking of running the wave cooker to extend that opportunity.
Man the weapon is so strange compared to anything else in the game. Its a shame necrosis performs the way it does currently. Seems like it could be a very fun over clock with some fixes!
This gun is also the best gun for killing fester fleas in big rooms. I’ve had aquarq mission where I stood in place tracking the festers and slowly ticking their health away. It’s awesome too because you don’t have to chase them down as much.
Great video, very informative. That being said, I think you should include recommended primary builds to use with the secondaries in future videos. Especially on weapons that combo with primaries.
There's so many options for that, we'd be here all day. And while I'm fine with giving some weapon builds and such, I don't want to lay out every little thing for people to use in a loadout. At some point I'd rather they make their own build choices with the info given. Teach a man to fish and all that
Thanks. I do say i was bit confused with this one. For real, i thought it was underpowered but when i found out how good thermal shock was. I knew it was good.
One of my favourite things to do is to cover a dreadnaught in blisters, then charge shot with impact damage overclock on the sludge pump. You can nearly 2 shot the twin dreadnaughts like that.
Molly getting in the was as per usual at ~7:50 Also, I really have been using this weapon all wrong, and am very glad I clicked on this video. Thank you for the information.
I think they've fixed blistering necrosis to work properly now. Additionally, a better strategy for using it is adding a weakpoint to an armored portion of the bug then using flamethrower to damage both the bug and the weakpoint. Reverse order also works well, especially with temp shock.
I used this for a while and enjoyed it, but I switched over to the Pistol with auto. I played driller with a more burst-focused damage strategy and it just suited me more. The Cooker is still my go-to for great sustained damage.
Thanks for making this video. Though for some reason I felt like power supply overdrive was multiplying the fire rate by 1.5 instead of 2.5, but I had no way to test it.
i second Lazy's fav sludge build. Its got decent single target, aoe, and CC and you can change how you play depending on the situation to kinda enhance one of those. The CC esp is way more consistent with slidge/cooker combo, bugs even on haz 5 come to almost a complete halt. and on top of that, you dont get in the way of heat/freeze effects. great team build like cryo, but still fun and effective.
I hated the driller's first two wacky secondaries when i started playing as a driller. But... After unlocking my personal handheld microwave of destruction, I fell in love with driller finally
Wave Cooker is absolutely best used as a combo weapon, build it towards blistering necrosis and impact axes, or build it towards hot and cold damage and pair it with the flamethrower or cryo cannon. I'm doing the latter and it's so damn good at taking out swarms and bigger targets. For the latter build, It's no longer about the status duration of your fire or freeze effect, it's about building that status up quick enough so you can swap over to the wave cooker and use it to deal a decent amount of burst damage, which will more often than not get rid of the status on the target in the process, but it's worth the damage output and if you build it right, the burst damage procing on enemies effected by fire or ice will affect other targets near them, which can lead to a chain reaction of you blowing up bugs with the wave cooker. Basically, you're suppose to synergize the wave cooker with the flame thrower or cryo cannon for this build. Whichever one you choose is preference, or depends on the biome you're in. If you want, you can also slap on the contaminated overclock for some radiation dot damage, which from what I can tell procs quite a bit.
thank you, this gun was sort of throwing me off and you cleared up a few of my questions about it. Now i just need to decide if it's better than my Sludgepump/tox nades/Subata with bounce bullets setup and get some overclocks for it.
I have a build based around maximum cooling and it became a lot more viable for solo with this gun. It is still good to use drills to actually kill frozen enemies, but in situations where I can't afford to dive into the middle of a group of frozen enemies using the Wave Cooker with the exothermic mod is vastly better than the other secondaries. They vanish surprisingly fast, sometimes even faster than the drills. So far I only have the overclock for penetration, but that is perfect for this use. The only drawback is that the temperature shock does technically break enemies out of freeze (if it doesn't kill them) so I have to re-freeze Praetorians. It doesn't seem to help as much with the flamethrower, but that is probably because it is less frequent that I have a bunch of burning enemies and I think to switch to another weapon.
Just had an idea to potentially make this weapon less useless on its own. Exothermic deals cold, and gets temp amps cold radiance, but only when a target is alive. Boiler deals heat, and flaming kills explode, And the t3 a mod can always give poison, but keeps is +30% dmg to corrosion and poison targets. The boiler would work with cryo, but couldn’t detonate frozen targets. The exothermal would work with the flamer, but couldn’t radiate the cold if you burn them.
Regarding gamma contamination, I feel like different enemies have different proc chances for the DoT. Oppressors I've shot with it almost never receive the effect, while the odds for rival robots feels much higher than 25%. I've found this OC particularly useful when tagging those wily patrol bots and distant sniper turrets.
The wave cooker is a genuinely terrifying weapon irl. Like fuck, you're cooking them alive with it similar to a well, microwave! Like that's gotta be a war crime!

Another excellent DRG weapon breakdown video. Please upload more of these!
I notice that the Temp-ShockOTron seems to outshine the other builds for gun, similar to how people almost always run Thinc-Containment-Field on the EPC.
Which is a shame because I also like the DoT stacking build but blowing up hordes of fronzen/burning grunts while doing big damage to the big bugs at the same time just seems way better.
sludge pump on its own is really strong though, GC microwave is more to compliment that than the other way around
I love deep rock science. Thank you for your service miner!
As a driller main I love this video! Thanks for making such a comprehensive and easy to follow explanation of such a complicated weapon. Would love to see more builds from you as well.
Helpful and very underrated content
Cooker was very confusing for me to understand at first but this helped a lot
Hypothermia- hypothermia boom 💥 😂😂 this my kind of use
The Blistering Necrosis boils can block projectiles.
I once covered a Hiveguard’s face with them and she couldn’t shoot a single fireball
I think part of the Blistering Necrosis mechanics were re-used for Rockpox bugs.
Best Zero profile picture + Banjo Kazooie bgm+ ACTUAL DATA ANALYSIS AND EXPLANATION
This channel has everything
The kitchen appliance goes hard
Hell yeah Ive been waiting for this, Thanks Lazy
I like to use Gamma lense along side the sludge. If you build it right you can completely remove all movespeed from some big enemies aswell as deal huge amounts of DOT.
Great video. Also love the banjo kazooie background music. Takes me WAAAAY back
Excellent breakdown !
Makes me actually want to try out the wavecooker .. Have felt it too weak everytime i did so.
"roughly as good as the other secondaries". I want to like the temp shock feature, but I hate switching weapons every 5 seconds.
So much hard work omg, best educational content channel so far.
This is something small, but I appreciate the mod you're using for your damage numbers. It reminds me of borderlands 1 or 2 damage numbers.
"I love you, kitchen gun!"
Great stuff man, love watching technical videos like these.
I recommend running the tempshock build with sticky flames, shooting under the target first let's you build heat again quickly.
Thanks for the amazing guide 🙏
This weapon is quite simple, but so nuanced to get right. I feel like I never get it right unless I just do the thermo shock mod
Someone with actual insight on how the gun works. Thank you !
You're doing Karl's work, comrade, thank you.
I could see a pure swarm popper build with it gun absolutely shining in one very specific, but very sought after combination. The Swarmaggedon/golden bugs combo, where you face significantly fewer single tank enemies, but more swarms, where you as a player want to remain in the cave system as long as possible.
YES YES YES I wanted to understand this gun more. Thank you
One of the effects the T3 temperature mod claims is keeping frozen/ignited targets in that state. I'm curious how well that works on Dreadnoughts? Freezing a dread normally requires pretty tight timings to get the damage in, and I'm thinking of running the wave cooker to extend that opportunity.
I can never seem to build up statuses on dreads. It never works.
@@the_furry_inside_your_walls639 dreads cannot be ignited, but they can be frozen, though it takes a good bit to do so
10/10 vid. Well done, it's crazy that this is free for me to watch
Your videos are so damn good. keep them coming for all the nice games like DRG, Elden ring, etc..
MA, HEY MA I MADE IT INTO A VIDEO. Good lord who knew! Great video and hope to meet you in the depths once more!
Great breakdown, I loved seeing all the testing.
Man the weapon is so strange compared to anything else in the game. Its a shame necrosis performs the way it does currently. Seems like it could be a very fun over clock with some fixes!
Damnit this is some legit & important content. Exactly what i was looking for, noice & subbed for more boss 👍
Teach a man to fish and all that
@@LazyMaybe fair enough, thanks for the great content!
So basically its a payday 2 shotgun laser beam
100% Best Channel for in-depth DRG info, have this award from me, which ultimately means nothing, lol
Molly getting in the was as per usual at ~7:50
Also, I really have been using this weapon all wrong, and am very glad I clicked on this video.
HOW DID I NOT NOTICE YOU USED AFTERIMAGE DURING THE NON-COMBO EXPLANATION AAAAAAAAAAAAA
I used this for a while and enjoyed it, but I switched over to the Pistol with auto. I played driller with a more burst-focused damage strategy and it just suited me more. The Cooker is still my go-to for great sustained damage.
The problem i have with this weapon is it does what the cryo and flame thrower already do MELT HORDES. Driller has very limited single target damage.
Thank you for the analytical deep dive!
The CC esp is way more consistent with slidge/cooker combo, bugs even on haz 5 come to almost a complete halt. and on top of that, you dont get in the way of heat/freeze effects. great team build like cryo, but still fun and effective.
i use slow fall OC on my pump tho. love that shit.
As a driller main, this is my favorite secondary weapon (yes, not epc). I so love sludge + radiation wave cooker
Awesome testing man. This is super helpful!
I like the Wave Cooker cuz I came to DRG from Warframe and stacking DoTs and Status effects is already ingrained in my DNA.
Great video!!!!!ty for work and numbers on screen!
love your explanation and showcases.
I hated the driller's first two wacky secondaries when i started playing as a driller. But... After unlocking my personal handheld microwave of destruction, I fell in love with driller finally
This really is a strange weapon. Thanks very much for the explanation.
Thanks for making this video, this weapon is truly complex and confusing, I hope it gets some fixes.
You know whats weird though?
You can give the flying rocks in escort duty boils
I like the swarm clear cooker + face melter dps flame thrower. Tons of fun lol
Your videos are great and informative, cant wait for the laser beam
There might be a lot less to break down for the laser, unless there's some complicated overclocks for it I was unaware of.
The entire time I used this i assumed it just spawned an AOE where the target hit. Had no idea it could hit enemies at different ranges.
Blistering could be potentially pretty good if you use it on dreadnoughts from the front
Damn, I'm going to have to try that ice spear + wave cooker build for myself
Just had an idea to potentially make this weapon less useless on its own.
Exothermic deals cold, and gets temp amps cold radiance, but only when a target is alive.
Boiler deals heat, and flaming kills explode,
And the t3 a mod can always give poison, but keeps is +30% dmg to corrosion and poison targets.
The boiler would work with cryo, but couldn’t detonate frozen targets.
The exothermal would work with the flamer, but couldn’t radiate the cold if you burn them.
Very informative, I finally get this weapon
I just realised
the wave cooker acts simmilarly to how the BFG works in the old DOOM games
now I want it to have a charge shot overclock
Regarding gamma contamination, I feel like different enemies have different proc chances for the DoT. Oppressors I've shot with it almost never receive the effect, while the odds for rival robots feels much higher than 25%. I've found this OC particularly useful when tagging those wily patrol bots and distant sniper turrets.
The wave cooker is a genuinely terrifying weapon irl. Like fuck, you're cooking them alive with it similar to a well, microwave! Like that's gotta be a war crime!
Uranium lens is simply put, the best overclock.
