I put in 21 years in the fire service and was reassigned due to medical condition, into a police dispatching job that does not qualify for LEO retirement. I was 46 years old when I was removed from the fire department and I am looking to retire at the end of this year at the age of 50. Do I still get all the benefits of the LEO retirement system. Just was looking for your insight thank you for any help.
The law enforcement retirement max is 57, but does that mean you are kicked out the door on your 57th birthday or can you work the whole year until you are almost 58?
@FederalRetirementPlanning ok thanks. I know that Border Patrol's 1 year extensions can push you up to the age of 60 now, because of the high attrition rate. A 1yr extension needs to be filed and approved every year. I'm not sure if that also applies to Customs LEOs and other agencies.
Don’t make that decision on a whiteboard … 1. Get 100k (or more) in your TSP. 2. Pay off your house, truck and boat. 3. Get the heck out of there, and get back in to church. 4. Serve the Lord, and look forward to eternity 😄
Federal LEO (6c) is calculated at 1.7% (first 20yrs then 1.1% thereafter) w/ forced retirement at 57. How are you calculating the FERS supp? Also, if your 6c and decide to stay working w/ the Fed (not in a LEO position) it could mess up your retirement.
incorrect, it's 1.7% and then 1% for years after 20. I believe I explained in the video how to calculate the supplement so maybe you're asking about the $500?? That's just a conservative estimate for the benefit that a person would receive for one more year worked. What do you mean by messing up retirement? If a 6c employee got their 20 years in and went to work in a non covered position they would still receive 6c retirement pay for the 20 years and would be able to retire at anytime after age 50.

DOD Police Dont make anything. Im a Federal LEO working with DOD DLA Police making $53K a year. After taxes taken out I Bring home $1,400 bi-weekly. Minimum retirement age is 57 unfortunately.
I’m waiting on a final offer with a FLE agency right now as an 1811. If hired, I would be able to retire at 53 with 20 years of service and I’m buying back my 4 years in the military. I would probably look into transferring to another job and retire at that point. What confuses me is the social security supplement. So the money reduced from age of retirement until 57 (mandatory retirement) and after 57 you just don’t get anything until 62? Also, if you opted for the early SS benefits would you still get SS later in life?
@@realrainpoursx I would recommend researching on the supplement more. U have a few incorrect assumptions. Everyone receives it and u will get the full amount until reaching MRA and then it could be reduced based on your wages if u are working in another job.

Yes, I am pretty confident that as long as you don't have a break in service and at least 20 years you can retire at 50 under the LEO reqs.

I believe that you can finish the month. A lot of agencies will give u a waiver to work another year or two

In that case I would recommend looking at other LEO positions to transfer to. From what I understand, most LEO agencies are hiring right now.
Secret Service is hiring big time. If you can pass the background and training I would apply there.
