    I enjoyed learning more about your fountain pen and ink journey. How quickly many of us go from thinking anything over $25 is expensive to being more than willing to pay a few hundred dollars for the right pen. I also agree about the importance of not having so many pens you forget about a lot of them and never use them.

      Hi Ursula, that is absolutely so true and funny. I still am astounded at how I look at the price of the newest exclusive Leo and it's 200 and I'm like, "that's normal, that's good". Hahaha, when before, a simple black pen with some maki-e being 170 is too much!! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on my discussion, too. I appreciate it!

    Great recap Lao. I started with Kawecos, Lamys and then Twsbi….. never thought I would pay more than that kind of price for a pen……needless to say, I have done …. Conklin, Sailor, Pilot VP, Tibaldi, Nawhal, one Leonardo! Haven’t bought a pen since March 18th so you are doing better than me…… I couldn’t resist the Estie Winter white. However, I have not paid more than £180 for a pen which I feel good about, but never say never….. always enjoy your videos, looking forward to many more. 🖊🖊🖊

    Your enthusiasm for your pens and inks made this such a fun video to watch, Lao! Couldn't stop staring at all of the inks in the background, hehe. I can relate to your bullet journal beginnings. While my pages weren't nearly as beautiful as yours, it can certainly take a lot of time. 😅Discovering Hobonichi and then fountain pens was a door to a whole new world. Your Leonardo collection is fabulous!

XD You should watch out for my Health Planning and (Special Guest) Unboxing video >< it'll be very fun, I hope! ^_^ And yes, I've only had 1 Leonardo that wrote a bit scratchy out of the box, but it was my Mother of Pearl, and I'm actually quite ok with the small scratchy feedback of the stub nib. They all write so nice - very well tuned, at least, for me I was lucky not to get the 1% of bad nibs!

    I loved hearing your thoughts and your journey. Personally I am not sad that I have some strongly-held opinions about pen aesthetics, because it helps my wallet. I will try to keep my heels dug in for this for that reason alone. 😅🤣

      AHAHAHA!! Oh Maria, I should have just quit before I got to the cigars! LMAO!!!!!! I still dislike cigars, so THEY MUST BE PERFECT! I have already sold my laurel green Platinum Century - it was not perfect, but the Chai Latte is. My Aurora Volterra is perfection. The Custom 823....writes like perfection, but very blah in aesthetic. I applaud you for having strongly-held opinions on aesthetics. My wallet hates me for my preferences for shiny and colors! Thank you, Brittany! I think after a little over a year of doing TH-cam videos, I might have a better way of recording and condensing my time with what to actually record and what I can edit out - If I ever get back to bullet journaling for some other things, I may add that to my list of videos. But fountain pens and bujo's are slightly different with whom their audiences are on the TH-cam algorithm, so it'll be tough for me to do BUJOs here now xD
      I am planning on scrapbook decorating the Bamboo Forest VP Into my Vision Board/Wish List journal, so I hope to make it look as beautiful as the pen and manifest getting it someday!! XD
      If I didn't do TH-cam, I'd probably sell all my Lamys and TWSBIs by now haha! But I must keep them to help everyone when they ask me questions so I can show a visual (i.e. nib writing differences).
      I hope you're able to get the Chai Latte Shape of Heart. She is just stunningly gorgeous!!

    I am in that stage where I’m still in shock/feel guilty that I would spend over $150 for a pen. I am definitely trying to only buy pen/nibs that I am likely to constantly use. I wish I had bought a few cheap beginner pens just to make sure fountain pen was for me. Now I want to streamline my collection. I am currently into Asian made pens, typical extra-fine love but architect, and surprisingly stub are intriguing. The long knife blade on Hondigan N9 has won me over with shifting to certain nibs rather than pens. (Still looking at Pilot 823 in waverley or posting nib).

    • @KenchanKrafts
      @KenchanKrafts  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s very interesting! I don’t think I’ve reached the part of my journey where I’m more interested in unique and specific nibs because I enjoy the specific nibs I like right now. I’m sure once I get exposed to different nibs that suit my style, I will probably get into that phase too! And what’s the most expensive pen you’ve bought that’s 150+? XD looking back, I’m shocked at myself for NOT being shocked at swiping my card for an expensive 200+ pen haha!! But some pens I will praise because I remind myself it’s not worth the price and I’m in a financial bind. I’m not shocked at the price and me actually buying it, but I try to think logically depending on my current situation 😂

And then I was trying to cut them down to 15 min videos. Needless to say, I didn’t last very long. 😅 i have two Kobe inks and I must say that I’ve been so impressed with how they flow in all of my pens (I mostly have EF and F nibs, which I’m slowly learning can be challenging for some inks!). I’m a total pushover for Japanese lacquerware, so a Platinum Maki-e or Pilot Urushi Custom would be an ultimate grail for me. Your collection is truly an enviable one. My biggest purchase so far has been the Pilot Elite 95S burgundy/ivory, but I’m considering a Sailor Pro Gear or Pilot Custom 823 or 743 next. Since you like softer colors, have you tried Pilot Murasaki Shikibu or Hana Ikada?

    • @KenchanKrafts
      @KenchanKrafts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am using Murasaki Shikibu right now in my very thin and dry Kaweco! :) It looks beautiful since the pen has a drier nib so I can see the softer purple tones from Murasaki! Have you tried a Sailor Pro Gear before? The feedback is quite prevalent if you're not used to feedback louder than Pilot or Platinum. And the size is definitely bigger than the Pilot E95S - how are you loving that pen? :) I sold mine because it was too small for me, but it was sad because that pen is very beautiful. I also would love to have a true Maki-e Platinum pen someday! I'm hoping to add urushi, maki-e, and raden onto my Pelikan M1000 within the next 2 years xD But I'll need to think of a design that is truly meaningful for me. Thank you so much for watching, Chi! ♥

      @chi-towncalifornia5916 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@KenchanKrafts I have not tried the Pro Gear yet, so I’m not quite sure if the more pencil-like nibs will be for me. I do like a bit of feedback and finer to medium-fine Japanese nibs, as slippery nibs make my handwriting messier, and I find my penmanship to be better with finer nibs. I absolutely love my E95S! I originally wanted to get a fine instead of medium nib, but since Pilot discontinued the burgundy/ivory E95S, the medium was the only one in stock at a distributor. I have no regrets making this my first gold nib pen, which I keep inked up with Pilot Yama Budō. I like using the toothier Midori MD paper, and use a shitajiki when I write with my Tomoegawa notebook, so I have tricks to pair with the slightly slippery E95S nib. Do you know if the cheaper steel nib Sailor 1911s provide an enough of that characteristic Sailor “feedbacky” aesthetic that they could help me decide if I would like that nib feel?

If you don't, you can always return it (assuming you have Amazon prime with free returns) xD I have not used steel nib Sailors before, but I can tell you that with a Pilot ink in the Sailor PGS MF nibs, it'll feel smooth with the feedback and should also dampen the feedback a bit. This E95S is definitely a buttery smooth nib xD so I'm impressed you were able to work your way around it to create a less slippery experience! :) You can always also try a drier flowing ink to increase the drag of the ink/nib onto the paper, too.

    If you arent against the whole Mock type pens the AMOCK m800 is exactly like the Pelikan m800 except they have schmidt / bock nibs I traded with Dough Rathbun in Canada cause he really likes the Galaxy finishes and I love this pen its somothe and the same size and the clip kinda looks like a pelikan ;P and if you want the experiance of the montblanc 149 but not the cost the Wingsung 630 comes in all kinds of colors now from opaque with the slit and window version to transparent translucent colors with flat bottom and cigar finials which I got the Red with a medium nib and flat top and I dont know but I think its bigger than a Sailor King of pen ?! but I have never felt a king of pen so I dont know and if you want flex the fountain pen revolution himalaya with a ultra flex nib is the way to go hands down but my favorite pens are the Noodlers konrad with a fountain pen revolution Ultra flexs nib

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts about those pens, Miss Marilyn Darlin'! I do like my pens to be the actual brand - I know...that can sound very high and mighty xD but the only reasons I'd probably get the dupe pens would be to share my thoughts and comparisons on my channel, but there are a ton of other videos people have already done on these comparisons that I don't feel like my channel or others would benefit too much from my take on them xD I have tried Jinhao 82s and I do not like them, sadly, despite all the great reviews they get. My Mahjon VP dupe is terrible, despite many loving theirs. So...I just haven't had great luck with meshing well with the dupe pens. I feel my reviews on them would be VERY BIASED XD as much as I shouldn't or wouldn't want to be. I do like the pretty bright colors of the Admok pens xD they're quite cute, indeed! Hmmm....I should do a poll to see if my viewers would like those kind of reviews from me. I do want to be able to give my viewers access to more affordable pens, too, that do write well or decent and not break anybody's wallets. Anyways, we can probably go on forever about this discussion haha, thank you so much for stopping by, MMD!

    I believe the Kobe inks are made by Sailor, the bottles are the same as Sailor Jentile inks used to use. Birmingham Pen Co has some very interesting complicated murky dusty colors.

      Hey Tom! Yes, Kobe inks are made by Sailor!! ^_^ Happy you know that, too! Sailor makes a lot of inks for other retailers/brands, and Kobe is one of them. I could tell without even researching Kobe up because they have the same chemical smell xD My Kobe inks smell like my Sailor Shikiori and Manyo inks. And yeah, I remember seeing some videos of people using Sailor Jentle inks and thought it was interesting that Kobe used that same bottle shape. I wonder if those were as expensive as these Kobe inks. Thanks for watching this video, Professor!

    I think that my new goal with Fountain pens, will be
    "Figuring out , what is special enough about a pen....that makes one , want to spent $500 or more 🤑 💲💰 on obtaining it , when you can get 25 good functional fountain pen models for $500 "
    I can't understand this luxury price point purchasing path...LOL
    What am I missing out on ??
    The Personal Beauty of the material, to the Pen-Carrier ?
    The Rarity of the Pens Material ? (Comet material / Moon rock / volcano material / rare ocean material /gold or platinum / fine woods / high-quality resins or precious gemstones / sterling silver or celluloid.) ~ limited edition
    The Nib materials or its etching ? Soft 14 carat gold / 18k gold /
    The one of a kind Art design on the pen barrel, cap, clip ?
    Ornamental components such as clips, rings, and decorative trims. These are often made of precious metals or adorned with gemstones, contributing to lofty price tags.
    Is it the Complexity of the Pens Design ? mass production Vs handcrafted ?
    is the functionality of the pen, ? (smoothness, availability of different nibs, ink flow etc )
    Is it a Trend thing ? A Pen Company Branding thing or a personal image thing ?
    Is it a mental illness ? Compulsive buying disorder (CBD) / Impulse buyers disorder ? Poor budgeting or increasing ones credit ? feeling pressure from TH-cam influencers ??
    More money , than brains, especially with the inflation era , that most of us, are all surviving in ? LOL
    27:31...That is a Fantastic inventory listing you have created....I LOVE IT !!
    I only wish now, that I completed my Computer skills course and learned how to do this program...😍👍🌟🌟🌟
    suggestion : I would create a fresh seperate vertical row , just to make the NIB SIZEs stand on out . Besides that....this is perfecto
    28:18....Wow...I better slow it down, comparing myself to you...I've accumulated :
    In 4 yrs over 200 Gel pens
    100 ball point pens
    and in 4 months, I've got 51 fountain pens and 20 calligraphy pens.
    I am just getting started....I think I need Fountain Pen intervention therapy ..LOL

      Hello my friend! All those thoughts in your first long paragraph about fountain pen prices!!! I have my own thoughts and wanted to make a video giving my objective thoughts about that topic!!! All of those areas contributing to high price of pens and actually buying them are so completely valid and most are probably true for a lot of us! Please look forward to that video once I come up with an organized way to express and record my thoughts on that topic XD
      I like that suggestion about my pen excel list. I shall add another row for the nib size! And I always do timestamps to help people search for specific things they want since I tend to make long videos for either discussion or I just ramble sometimes. Glad you find them helpful!!

    I’ve written with the Naruto pen and it wrote like a dream. I do have a few Montblanc and I recommend writing with some vintage ones. The Boheme is a magical little pen as well as the baby.

    • @KenchanKrafts
      @KenchanKrafts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ooo, that is very reassuring and amazing to hear. I heard that Montblanc nibs are a big on a stiffer side, which would be great for me, since I don't mind a stiffer nib. But I definitely am not used to very soft springy gold nibs, though they do give such a different kind of experience. Would you say your Montblancs have some softness to them, a lot of softness, or quite stiff? And yeah, I definitely should try at least one vintage pen at the Chicago pen show this May and report back!

    • @Instaraxx
      @Instaraxx 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think they are a bit soft with a light springiness.
      The nib on my Boheme isn’t bouncy but just has a lovely flow and evenness to the writing.
      The Baby feels a little bouncy but in a controlled and comfortable way.
      It’s not flex but it has just a hint of it.
      I’m not a flex nib person and I love the way this writes. It’s a medium nib that flows very generously. It’s almost a broad flow.
      The Boheme is a medium and is more controlled.
      The 144 is a Fine and is vintage (90’) perhaps.
      It’s smooth and perfect but again, generous with the ink flow without being too much.
      I hope this helps.
      The Naruto I wrote with was also a very wet writer and flowed beautifully. I can’t remember the nib size but I loved the coloring of it.

    • @KenchanKrafts
      @KenchanKrafts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Instaraxx Thanks so much! That's a lot of great information. That checks with what I know about how most montblanc inks are a bit dry to pair with their wetter writing pens. I like that they flow well and wet! That's great for the softer drier inks I'd like to use. I do like a controlled softness/bounciness :) I know I don't need a 149 since that nib is probably as big as the M1000. I just need a lovely everyday nib size from Montblanc 🤗 Now to decide if I want Fine or Medium...😅
      Thanks again for sharing your insights and experience with your Montblancs! Truly appreciated!
