Finishing up the metal work on the Crusty project. The main shell needed a few more items ticked off the list before I can move on to Bodywork and paint
Your videos are some of the best content on you tube. Even to people who aren’t into auto restoration, you learn so much about proportions, engineering and geometry here.
Your channel gave me the confidence to cut into my first ever start to finish project! Your content is so appreciated and supportive to anyone watching! Thanks for the continued education!
Those trunk hinge covers are amazing. You've said many times in the past that you have to break things down into small, simple pieces and the way you made those covers was the perfect illustration of this powerful technique. Fantastic work Tony and another great video. Thank you
Went through similar a few years ago and getting the image of those small steps in your mind is part of the craft, along with the vision to make it look good. The actual welding is the easy part.
As much as I watch your videos, I still get amazed with your sheet metal fabrication skills. I have learned so much watching you. I have used any of the knowledge yet but when the time comes, thanks to you I’ll know how. Thanks a bunch!
I have to thank you again for this great series building Crusty - can't wait to see the final product. I've learnt a lot from your know-how and sensible approach to building panels and constructing a chassis. I hope to apply what I've learnt to my future projects. Cheers!
Congrats Tony. I see Peanut livin' large, laying back in her chair with a nice fire goin. Smart cat. I hope the Winter isn't treating you too bad so far.
The tips are great especially when you show us not to over think things. The package tray came out really nice. I like the way you are thinking about the safety of the build as well. It is a pleasure to see how you work through this. Thanks
Fastest Filing Cabinet on the Avalon... Honestly and truthfully, I've followed crusty ever since it was a lid off a sardine can. Jokes aside, I can not stress enough as to how good of a job Fitzee done on everything from the front firewall, to the floors, trans tunnel, wheel tubs and then trunk pans.. you can say the entire structure. There is literally not one thing wrong that anyone can say about the entire process. The panel execution is with out a doubt..., as good or better than anyone can expect when it comes to fabricating from scratch with basic hand tools and repurposed metal. When the Toyota is painted from top to bottom, without knowing what condition this car started from, it will look purpose and factory built. The work is symmetrical from all angles, its perfect.. I take my hat off to you good sir, you are a gentleman, a scholar and a very good judge of filing cabinets.. Awesome job brother! Looking forward to see some color.. Keep up the great videos and content!
Love the hinge covers. Just throw a few off cuts together, weld it up, cut off the excess, final weld and grind and there you have it. Just superb! Lives up to the motto, "Dont over think it, its only metal!!
Your videos and teaching are the principal reasons why I have been able to get my rusty project car near to the bodywork stage. I would 100% watch you fill and sand for 40 minutes! ❤️🇦🇺
This is absolutely outstanding work you’re doing here, a fantastic result, just think of how it looked before. And the way you manage to see how to simplify and streamline the fabrication of an intricate part is truly remarkable. Simply magic. My absolute favorite channel
Thanks to you my 57 got complete floor and trunk metal repair. Something I've gone to instead of screws or fishing nuts behind panels are rivet nuts. So easy to just thread in machine screws/bolts to attach stuff.
Rivnuts are handy, however don't use 'torquey' power tools to screw bolts into rivnuts as the likely outcome is a spinning bolt-rivnut assembly that will be PITA to remove.
I enjoy watching your skill and creativity. Having watched many of your Crusty videos, I add your patience and perseverance to the mix as well. Thank you for letting us glimpse a master at his craft.
Fantastic effort Fitzee Love how you break the complex parts up into pieces. You have made this task so less daunting and teaching the way through the steps is super helpful. Has given me so much more confidence. To look back now with a before and after is massive achievement.
Im pretty sure you are about the only guy out there who have done 250,000 Dollars worth of sheet metal on a Toyota Corolla!!! I love those Corollas!!!! Crusty is getting really really close to be back on the road 🎉🎉🎉🎉 man that's amazing work, love it brother ❤
It has to be a great feeling to Finley be done with this part of your build ! I have been watching from the start ! It was quite the mess when you started ! Now it is like a new car put around a race chascy ! I has been a great teaching ade ! Looking forward to seeing it come to your dream become reality !
It's looking awesome, I recon it's % 80 to 90 your work I can't see much that you haven't done something to,be great seeing it in paint, excellent, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Well, you sure turned a piece of rusted out scrap metal that wasn't worth repairing (for anyone else) back into a structurally sound car again. Heaps of good tips and information along the way that will sure help a lot of people including me when I get to my project.
A decent brake is such a handy thing. We’ve got a couple big heavy duty old 8 foot brakes at my work and if I ever need a nice straight line on something or a couple complex bends it’s totally worth it to quick run into town and use the brake. A guy can bend up a set of rocker panels or something like that in no time versus farting around in my garage trying to rig something up.
I love Crusty, keep her going , you need to be at the dragstrip in early May, she needs to be done by that time. Love your channel! Canadian content is what i support, especially in times of crisis.
Glad to see it ready to get down the the body finish work. You are getting down to the 80/20 part of the job where the last 20% will take 80% of the build time.
Enjoy all your content Tony. Simple tools, straightforward technique without overthinking things. Such brilliant practical advice for a novice like myself. Keep on keeping on.😊
Tony, I enjoy watching you, Karl at Make it Kustom and Robert at Guzzi Fabrication working metal. Shaping welding and finishing the repairs is amazing. Fabricating body panels is becoming a lost art. Watching you I see the shaping and welding the way I was taught in the sixties. You are very talented and explain everything in detail. I got a couple projects I'll be starting soon. One over 70 years old. Keep the videos coming!
Shit hot, my friend! Glad to see the milestone achieved. As you said, it's been a while - but you got there. Absolutely rapt for ya, mate! She still looks like a little late 70s 2-door Corolla too! Chiefly because any external mod done has been done sympathetic to the original bodylines. Besides being stronger than what she was when you started, I reckon she's stronger than she was from factory even without factoring in the roll cage and the steel channel under the floor....yet she still looks like a Corolla! Ok - there'll be no back seat, but you couldn't have had a back seat with a roll cage in there anyway - had a mate who tried that and if you ended up in the back, you were sitting on the trans tunnel in the middle of the car, leaning forward so your head didn't keep hitting the roof. It took me 10 minutes to unfold myself to get out of the rear seat after a half-hour drive of that bloody car compacting my spine every time we went over a bump! Glad you decided to ditch it! So rapt that part of it is over, Tony. Now just the doors, the front fenders, the trunk lid and the hood, but they are a doddle compared to figuring what goes where and how on the rest of the body, eh? All the best.
Good going Tony, ya got to where you wanted to be. Great to see her coming together, you've chased through so many bits and pieces, she's really looking smart now. Cannot wait to see the rest. I would easily watch 45 mins of bodywork and filling, hey I've watched all the rest of it! Great tutorial videos as per usual, Any day now I'm getting some gas and tucking into my project. Thanks for all the content .
We all know Fitzee's metalwork is amazing but the music in his video's is now really special too. Thanks mate for giving us mere mortals something to look forward too. 😁
I can't imagine what my projects would look like without the help, your tips and tricks have given me a whole new way of making complex parts and pieces, beautiful work as always Tony
Main Shell Completed, Nice! looks really good. Tony, I don't mind seeing work on crusty nor do I mind seeing a bit of body work... I've enjoyed watching all what you've done to get this car to where she is right now. Cheers.
Not sure which of your videos it was in but want to let you know that sometimes your simplest tips make a big difference. I was getting ready to install a fuel tank support and realized the flange overlapped another support that was already welded in place. I was going to cut the flange to fit around it but was concerned about weakening the new support. Then I remembered your hint about putting it in a vise and hitting it with a straight edge to create a step in the flange. Problem solved. Thanks for the tip.
that was an awesome episode Tony, and like the speed up timeline too , you could use it when you start the body work , so we can still watch your work process in timelapse

I'm not a tin knocker but I love to learn tips & tricks from the master, so thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I guess all good things must come to an end. We know you have plenty more episodes in store for us. Great music!
Watching you and your work tells me that craftsmanship is alive and well and living in Canada. Crusty looks great.
Even though I have seen it before I never get tired of watching you welding
Ol crusty is looking great well done top job,
Patches is waiting very patiently in the wings
This video was monumental. Having the tin work done is a major leap forward. Your content as always is amazing.
Amazing deconstruction of something that doesn't exist, and a thing of beauty appears before us!!!! Every time you knock it out of the park. ❤❤❤❤
All day in the shop to finish a long term project. You get inside to relax. And Peanut is warming herself in your chair!
I tell you this man really knows what he is doing,he is super smart and makes everything look so easy. He's about the best fabricator out there.
I’ve learned a lot a little tricks on this project. Thank you sir.

From old Crusty to new Crusty. Great job.
From Crusty to Trusty
Yay, she’s done! It’s been how many videos over what?, a couple years? Nice job, Tony! Thank you for all the instruction.
Your videos are always great and the tips are always good. Thanks Fitzee
The old car is getting close! Looking great!

Or better yet, the strip.

Tony, I love watching you work. It's mesmerizing. Tips are awesome, as usual.
28 pieces. don't forget you had to extend the first speaker hole filler by an inch on each leg.
Thanks! Congratulations on Crusty's metal fab completion!
Thank you...
