The 'late' Richter at his best. He only played this selection of Etudes in six concerts in France and Spain - and this recording is simply the most extraordinary one, both in that it captures Richter in a really well recorded audience recording and on a good day. I have attended some highlights of the late Richter in recital in person in Germany, Netherlands and Austria, but the Debussy etudes was one of his late choices in repertoire that I would have loved to hear him play live in a recital. For those interested, here is a recording of Richter with a full Liszt recital from 1988 that I attended and recorded: th-cam.com/video/wvCcU5o5siw/w-d-xo.html
Not quite. There is a Doremi recording of the Etudes in Savona 1991 played in recital with a Mozart sonata and Prokofiev Sonata 4 . This one is better sound though.
