  • Genie silent max 1000 model 3042 garage door belt repair / replacement with free warranty belt. Genie offers a 15 year warranty on their belts, I had to call them and do some troubleshooting in order for them to send me a belt free of charge. Originally it was supposed to be $11 for shipping but they had a system issue and ended up shipping it out for free. It only took about three days for the belt to arrive. Very easy to do on your own. No need to hire someone. It took me about an hour total, and I was able to do with no help- 1 man job.

I found some shortcuts. Mine motor is suspended from the ceiling. So I can get the track off without removing the motor by unscrewing the 2 straps on top of the motor and then lifting the rail and hitting it upward from underneath with the palm of my hand. I also did not have to take the belt apart. I loosened the tightening adjustment, then removed the screws holding the end on the side of the motor. The two ends come out and the belt can go in, in one piece. BUT, I wish you had shown where the white "bullet" on the belt goes. This is the most critical piece of the whole operation. If you put the bullet on the wrong side, the carriage assembly won't catch on the bullet and pull the door up or let it down. Also, you need to know if the motor last raised or lowered the door. If the door was last lowered, the bullet will need to be placed down toward the garage door so that when the motor is triggered the bullet has space to travel up to the motor. I wasted time first putting the bullet on the wrong side. Then I put it on the correct side, but too close to the motor where there was no space to travel toward the motor.
To start, you need to know which direction the motor spins. If you were to lay on your back and look up at the motor, the motor goes counter clockwise and the bullet should be on the right side of the loop. The bullet should go almost all the way to the door opening, maybe 80% of the way there from the motor. But too close to the door opening and it won't pull the door open far enough.
These are important time saving points

thank you for the info.... we have the same door opener model 3042. Very helpful. I just need to cross refer for the belt part number. You should put it on the description. Thanks a million.

I haven't found another video for the silent max 1000. mine just started making a popping noise. When I checked it out I found my belt looks just like yours -striped. I ordered on Amazon. It will be here tomorrow. Thanks

    Good job ‼️
Your video is about the only one that shows the adjustment on the Genie Silentmax tensioner…
If the door doesn’t open all the way, I think you can set the limits by using the set and up / down buttons by the red / blue led light.
Really good, clear , right to the point…
BTW what kind of gun is on the black cleaning pad on the table ?

Thanks for the video! Same model, except my belt broke when the door springs broke, so I had to get those fixed first. I didn't even attempt to repair that myself. Garage springs can literally KILL you if you don't know what you are doing! I TH-cam lots of home repairs, but not that one! Also, thanks for pointing out that Genie offers a 15 year warranty on the belt, except they are a bitch to try to get them to honor it, I just went ahead and ordered one on Prime Day. Cost $50, but I got it in just 2 days. Thanks again!

I have a 2 Genie 3042. Both belts went bad (12 year old) at about the same time. Called Genie (long wait on phone), told them my situation (keep a copy of your receipt of purchase for motor units) and they sent me two belts (4 days delivery) and sprockets (you pay the shipping about $20.) I recommend Genie, great support IMO and experience.

Great idea! I’ll add it to the description. I contacted the company directly for the warranty and they sent the belt free of charge but I didn’t think to add the part number

Hey Mo. this video helped a lot. I might be missing something but that "white piece", doesn't it have to lock into the angle bracket that's attaches to the door? Otherwise I don't see what lifts the door. You said you moved it all the way back towards the motor. I'm in the process of changing my belt and just want to make sure. Thanks for making the video!

Yes. The white piece has to attach!

Thanks For Sharing! 💯 This Genie Model is a Home Depot Special and It Shows. I’ve Replaced the Circuit Board and The $100 Replacement Failed With Sensor Circuit, Belt Tensioner Plastic Spacer Disintegrated. Latest Issue That Brings Me Here 👋 = The Belt is Making a Rhythmic Clicking Sound Going Up and Down That Seems To Be Coming From The Motor Drive Area, It’s Leaving a 2” Gap At Bottom When Closed… #Thanks #GotGenie? 🧞‍♂️
