Thank you for this fantastic video Lee, Newhaven is near to where I grew up in Trinity. The harbour means so much to myself and my children, we have a padlock down there for my late husband. The bench you chose was the exact one we used to sit on when we were young, such happy memories. I enjoyed your walk so much, although as soon as you said you were walking to Newhaven I was wishing you had jumped in a taxi, it's a bit of a trek. Thank you again, hope you come up again sometime. Hi Lee, love your channel. I live literally over the road from there, it's a shame I never knew you were coming. Never been to the Fishmarket, too pricey for me, but it's great to see your review on a local business to me. Eating with your fingers is the way to eat a fish supper.

Lee, that fish dinner looked yummy, nice and crispy. Sent your video to my son who’ll be on a golfing trip thru Edinburgh. Many thanks again and keep them coming…🏌️
No. In most chippies in Scotland do NOT get two fish. You are thinking of Glasgow ("The Blue Lagoon"). They offer two "pieces" of fish. Trouble is it's not haddock, or even cod. It's whiting. Tasteless and thin. No wonder it's cheaper. Total cheat.
Hi Lee, nice to see you back up in Scotland enjoying our finest cuisine. That looked excellent, well worth the walk. Keep up the good work. Best wishes from Scotland.
Wow Lee just look at all that Tartarian Architecture amazing see all the windows and doors below street level and step Bridge's over the gap up to the door s that were not the Original entrances, amazing crazy stuff people just don't notice when walking past, ❤
Haddock didn’t look all that large , but depends what’s landed on day , can vary a lot . I’m from Aberdeen and some of out Peterhead landed fish are huge .
Fantastic video. I could be wrong as I was only young but I think the Fishmarket used to be a Harry Ramsden's when I lived with family in Edinburgh in 1995. I remember it being popular.
Next time jump on the Tram mate it takes you right out to Newhaven from City Centre. 👍🏻 You need to try Bertie’s on Victoria Street next time it’s our favourite Edinburgh chippy!
Greetings from an Englishman in exile in New Zealand. I do miss British and chips. Sadly, fish and chips are not up to the same standard here, generally. Flaxen Saxon.
Lee never had fish ’n’ chips from fish market been told it’s quite good, you’ll find the fish will be fresh on looks I would say 9 it’s just a shame they don’t have more seating looked very busy. Glad you like Edinburgh you’ve got a lot to see in a short time it’s beautiful city (my home town) glad you like Edinburgh so far great vlog.👍🏴
Hi Lee just been to a great chippy tonight best I've ever had its called corvy chipshop at bo ness near Edinburgh it's right old fashioned been in business long long time you must have a look when your up there again.
Next time you visit edinburgh have a look for oink. They do an amazing pulled pork roll. Pick the roll then a stuffing, a sauce then topped with pulled pork fresh from a spit roasted pig
In answer to the so called locals on here.....its Princes Street, not Princess Street, and has been for over 200 years....and Newhaven and Leith ARE in Edinburgh
@@davidboyle6374The fact that Leithers don't believe it is neither here nor there. It happens to be true. Leith officially became a suburb of Edinburgh in 1920. The fact that Leithers don't like to admit it proves you shouldn't always believe what locals say. They are telling you what they want to believe, not what is actually the case. Always do an independent check on such things. It's like the fact that New Yorkers hate to admit that London is twice as big as New York City.
I lived in Auld Reekie many years ago, in Stockbridge. There was a fabulous chippy there called L'aquila Bianca (fish suppers, pizzas, pasta etc) they did potato fritters, battered onion chunks and battered mushrooms and a whole host of other things but the fish was amazing. I think it closed many years ago but I always thought the fish and chips, on the eastern side of Scotland especially, were the best (Oban, on the West, has some really good ones if you ever venture up there). That place is a real walk from the centre because it is even further than Leith in Edinburgh. I would give that one 8.5/10
Wow! what a lovely place to get a fish supper will definitely need to give it a go next time am in Edinburgh for a day out , fair walk from City center but I like walking. So not a problem. Fish looked very good marks outta 10 will give it a 9.5 Lee great video.
Another awesome video by the MacMaster, that fish and chips looked awesome,, good you had a nice day for a walk, when we went we were walking on the shore amd we heard a horrible loud noise, we looked at each other and said what the hell Is that, and 30 seconds later we were absolutely soaked through to the bone 😂 I've never heard rain 30 seconds before we felt it before or again in my life 😂
Edinburgh, I've been in the past. Had my staycation there during covid. Fanastic place. You get the best of both worlds. Fish 🐟 & chips 🍟 look great. I give that 4.5.
You mention Magnus Magnusson , did you know he was brought up in Edinburgh ? An Icelandic who lived in Scotland all his life but never took British citizenship. Right let's get down to the food , that was a large fish ? do you get a fish finger if you order the regular ? Fair play the peas didn't look pureed so that's a point earned. The price though ....that would be £30+ for a couple and a mortgage payment for a family. It's a generous 6 from me and 10 for the vistas 👍 Beard Meats Food is a legend and a man eating like a Viking with his fingers , your mate DJ darn sarf eating a pizza with a knife and fork the other day reminds me of you 🤣
I went there a few months ago from Glasgow to check out the hype. What I found is that the fish tasted exactly the same as that of Catch Fish n Chips in Glasgow (Giffnock). But the chips at catch were better. So for those travelling from Glasgow you will get similar up here. BTW Catch fish n chips is also as pricey as the Fishmarket!
Nice to see you walk to Newhaven as it is a worthy stroll with many scenic routes. Those suggesting taking the tram have a point, though only if the weather is bad. Or you're lazy, which if possibly why they opt not to walk. On a pleasant day a couple miles in fabulous Edinburgh is nothing. A friend and I are set to try the Fishmarket tomorrow. Your review coupled with a positive one from Tom Kerridge - he was very impressed by the 'production line' and the results - has, despite a naysayer or two in the comments here, eased any concerns I had. Mind, the fact that you enjoy Irn Bru could suggest a lack of taste. 🙂 Another great place is Saltwater (formerly Global) in Bruntsfield, which is a shorter walk (cut across the Meadows and Bruntsfield Links from the Old Town). It is on a high street located in a fabulous residential area, so after your meal you can wander about looking at shops (great magazine/newspaper one across the street, boutiques etc.) or appreciating some of the city's finest homes.
That place used to be a Harry Ramsdens.. Newhaven was a fishing village outside Edinburgh and never wanted to be part of it. Where you not offered "Edinburgh chippy sauce"?!! If not its not a proper Edinburgh chippy;)

As an Englishman, even I know you can't go to Edinburgh and F&C without having sauce!! That fish looked amazing and haddock is so much tastier than cod (for me). It always tastes better outside, with seagull sounds. 9/10 Next time in Edinburgh have 'the sauce' on your F&C you won't regret it.

My Brother in laws mother lived there for a year and said the fish and chips are always amazing. As a Canadian hard to find good fish and chips except in the maritime provinces on the east coast , Nova Scotia ect.
Are you in Edinburgh, on the hunt for another 'Fish Supper'? I liked your post from Great Yarmouth. Fish and chips old style were fried in Beef Dripping. Nothing else does the job. You are my youngest brother's age. I remember a Chippy where the pans were fired by coal!!
Can’t believe you walked to Newhaven from the city centre. It must be all of two miles or so however the No.22 bus from the city takes you to Ocean Terminal which is just a few minutes walk to The Fishmarket, and they run every few minutes anyway. Actually quite a few buses run to Ocean Terminal from the city. If my memory serves me right I used to use the No.35 bus which runs from the airport to Ocean T. Anyway the fish & chips looked ok. That curry sauce had a strong vibrant colour to it, I bet that had a kick. The place looked busy so it must have been good. I used to stay at the Ocean Apartments just up the road my last visit.
Nat's ?? It's 'Midges' in Scotland Mac 😅 they bite too !! I'd of given it 9 cos they we're a bit stingy with the chip's & at those price's a nice bit of generous chunky fish though 😋
Great review mate and a very fair score. Fish and chips looked lovely. I agree with you about the mushy peas. They didn't look the best to be honest but I'm not a huge fan of mushy peas anyway. I do love curry sauce though. I'm going to go 9.5/10 as the chip portion could have been slightly larger. Edinburgh is a lovely city. Went there back in 1999 for a 5 Nations Rugby match at Murrayfield between Ireland and Scotland. Would like to visit there again. Thanks for another great video buddy👍
You must be dreading your journey back to London in your milk float! It was truly horrendous. You well and truly convinced me(and I’m sure many others)not to buy an electric vehicle.

You can get these travel knife, folk and spoon that fold up like a Swiss army knife. Don't take on aeroplane. Maybe worth getting and keeping in kit bag..... perhaps they might do a sponsorship
I wonder whether they use irn bru in the batter , the fish and chips looks amazing as a chef I have so wanted to get a battered mars bar in Scotland Edinburgh is just a beautiful area I was using chat gpt to find the first fish and chip shop in London and when did curry sauce and mushy peas become associated with curry sauce and mushy peas. I like Curry sauce This is what chat gpt says The first recorded fish and chip shop was opened in London by a Jewish immigrant named Joseph Malin in 1860, although there were earlier establishments that sold fried fish and potatoes separately. The dish quickly became popular, and by the end of the 19th century, there were thousands of fish and chip shops across the country And about the oldest fish and chip shop in London which I think you ahve been to There are several fish and chip shops in London that claim to be the oldest in the city, but the one that is generally considered to hold the title is a shop called "The Rock & Sole Plaice." This shop is located in the Covent Garden area of London and has been in business since 1871. The Rock & Sole Plaice has survived many challenges over the years, including two World Wars and changing tastes in food. Today, it remains a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, serving up traditional fish and chips as well as a range of other seafood dishes. So, to answer your question, yes, the oldest fish and chip shop in London, The Rock & Sole Plaice, is still open for business Chat gpt answer Edinburgh is amazing we stayed in a castle when we were there called carberry castle
What's impressive about The Blue Lagoon? When I went there last year the fish was small (hence the two pieces) and tasteless. I said "This is not Haddock, is it?". And they said "No. It's Whiting".
It did look great, I'd give it a 10 for the location, too. Actually, Lee, after that meal, you should be walking off those calories and not taking the TAXI. Haha!
Good choice as this is the best in the city. Owned by the same people who run Ondine which is a top fish restaurant in Scotland (Edinburgh Centre). Can’t beat some Peterhead Haddock.
Last F&C I had in Embra was from a chippy on the High Street considerably more central than the fishmarket, Newhaven. I seem to remember it was great, but then this is my fave meal, using fingers an' all. It was much cheaper than £16 but we are talking about a while ago, sort of Middle Ages or say around 1972. Ye cannae beat it!
Blimey it was very busy Lee. Such a shame you couldn't eat in the warm. Newhaven a massive walk from Edinburgh, top Marks to you 👏😮 A few scraggy chips, but my that Haddock looked braw.
You walked from Princes St to Newhaven? You deserve that supper!!! If you had jumped on the tram at Princes ST, the tram would have taken you right there. Last tram stop is newhaven. I have always meant to try that place and always forget about it.
I'd score them down just for sellin' mushy peas (snot in a tub) 🙂 I do agree with Alex Stean though, Fife's the place for the best fish and chips, probably Anstruther. 👍
Ever fancied a meal 🥘 in Tan Hill Pub North Yorkshire Dales that’s Britain’s Highest Pub Lee? You should book a room there and do a full food drink /accommodation review. Got to be interesting one to do.
Did this last year with the daughter and went home via Buttertubs Pass and Wensleydale Creamery at Hawes and taking in the Ribblehead Viaduct near Chapel-le-Dale.
A touch expensive I thought. The quality looked spot on, good size piece of fish, meaty, nice batter. Chips good and sauces. Curry sauce looked tasty and almost like tomato sauce in colour. 9 from me.
You could have jumped on a number 11 or 16 bus from Princes Street and it would have had you there in 20 minutes for £2. Glad to see you didn't get pestered by the seagulls. The supper looked not bad but there are plenty of chip shops would have been a bit cheaper than that. Normally suppers are coming in around £9 in Edinburgh.
If you go back, get the bus from the centre it drops you off nearby. I thought the fish was spot on but like most things , a bit pricy, and how many locals use it, thats the test. . The fish comes from Peterhead.West London , One day a week the wife and I get F&C sit in the car and tuck in fingers and all. Sounds a bit strange but better still when its raining. My daughter and I were up in May 2022 , there are a few good F&C shops, and again most fish comes from Peterhead.

If you are in the east of Scotland try a White Pudding Supper, I absolutely love it and being from Glasgow it's a rare treat for me!
I could actually taste those fish and chips 😋 Edinburgh looks lovely might have to visit
Nat's ?? It's 'Midges' in Scotland Mac 😅 they bite too !! I'd of given it 9 cos they we're a bit stingy with the chip's & at those price's a nice bit of generous chunky fish though 😋
Coulls fish restaurant at berwick upon tweed does really good fish and chips too x
16 bloody quid lol i'm glad you enjoyed it! prices of fish and chips is getting ridiculous. maybe i'm just a cheapo lol
Some places in Edinburgh it’s around £9.
@@barclay0876 that's not to bad
Enjoyed your vid lee the curry sauce looks yummy very red though. Keep up the good work
You must be dreading your journey back to London in your milk float! It was truly horrendous. You well and truly convinced me(and I’m sure many others)not to buy an electric vehicle.
😊😊😊😊WOW looks so very crispy and yummy give it a 10 like the boxing and cute bag. Nothing wrong with using your hands sometime we just have to go caveman or medieval……LOL Thanks for sharing I love Scotland need to go back soon to visit family.❤❤❤❤
You can get these travel knife, folk and spoon that fold up like a Swiss army knife. Don't take on aeroplane. Maybe worth getting and keeping in kit bag..... perhaps they might do a sponsorship
Glad you liked. Always in Leith it's great. Still never been 😅
Proper way to eat fish & chips is with your hands. Fish looked superb, its a solid 8 from me.
Get yourself a wee bit further up to Anstruther... Fantastic fish and chips in this beautiful wee village..😋
Agree Anstruther is great can’t beat Scottish fish and chips
I wonder whether they use irn bru in the batter , the fish and chips looks amazing as a chef
I have so wanted to get a battered mars bar in Scotland
Edinburgh is just a beautiful area
I was using chat gpt to find the first fish and chip shop in London and when did curry sauce and mushy peas become associated with curry sauce and mushy peas.
I like Curry sauce
This is what chat gpt says
The first recorded fish and chip shop was opened in London by a Jewish immigrant named Joseph Malin in 1860, although there were earlier establishments that sold fried fish and potatoes separately. The dish quickly became popular, and by the end of the 19th century, there were thousands of fish and chip shops across the country
And about the oldest fish and chip shop in London which I think you ahve been to
There are several fish and chip shops in London that claim to be the oldest in the city, but the one that is generally considered to hold the title is a shop called "The Rock & Sole Plaice." This shop is located in the Covent Garden area of London and has been in business since 1871.
The Rock & Sole Plaice has survived many challenges over the years, including two World Wars and changing tastes in food. Today, it remains a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, serving up traditional fish and chips as well as a range of other seafood dishes.
So, to answer your question, yes, the oldest fish and chip shop in London, The Rock & Sole Plaice, is still open for business

Edinburgh is amazing we stayed in a castle when we were there called carberry castle
Blue lagoon when you go Glasgow they do a amazing fish and chips you get 2 fish pieces
Not impressed with the blue lagoom
When you were saying WOW ! WOW! A mustang drove behind you. I had no idea 67,68 mustang would be in Scotland! WOW!
Head out to musselburgh, east coast is different class.
Blimey it was very busy Lee. Such a shame you couldn't eat in the warm. Newhaven a massive walk from Edinburgh, top Marks to you 👏😮 A few scraggy chips, but my that Haddock looked braw.
Newhaven is IN Edinburgh. Edinburgh is a lot bigger than many visitors think.
You walked from Princes St to Newhaven? You deserve that supper!!!
If you had jumped on the tram at Princes ST, the tram would have taken you right there. Last tram stop is newhaven.
I have always meant to try that place and always forget about it.
Not possible, the new tram stretch from York Place to Newhaven only just opened to the public in the summer. The MacMaster was here before then.
And on the way back pop into Masham and have a meal at the Black Sheep brewery
Did this last year with the daughter and went home via Buttertubs Pass and Wensleydale Creamery at Hawes and taking in the Ribblehead Viaduct near Chapel-le-Dale.
My Mrs says food always tastes better when you eat it with your hands 👍, I worry when she has two knives tho ... 🤣
Enjoyed the video
Still love the videos, keep up the fab work 💥
Expensive but it is a city I suppose. Nice picturesque background to eat it to though.
Looked good , curry sauce did look a funny colour but I always go with the mushy peas and a extra tub 👍🏻
Lovely place Lee,and food looked great
If you go back, get the bus from the centre it drops you off nearby.
Don't understand the reference to West London. You said the fish was from Peterhead.
Irn Bru 1901 .. need to try that 👌🏻
Lovely review lee 👍
Great vid lee ❤❤❤
This plaice was on a cookery show on tv recently. They really rated it. Looks great.
Just cooked myself Four huge king scallops with crispy bacon and black pudding . Felt stuffed until I saw your haddock , now I’m starving .
