  • The Palace of Versailles history is closely connected with the reign of King Louis XIV. As a way to prove power and wealth, he builds one of the most magnificent buildings in art history. This video covers a brief history of Versailles, important facts, and takes you on a virtual tour of famous parts of the palace.
    The Palace of Versailles is a great example of French Baroque architecture. To see how it fits within art history, download my Western Art History timeline: arthistorywithalder.com/free-...

    Majestic I would love to visit. How long does it take to see the entire site?

      When I went, a day didn't even feel like enough time to see everything. If you really want to soak it in, I'd say two full days.
      On the other hand, you can do a tour of the main palace in 2-4 hours. With travel and waiting in lines, this would still likely be half a day.

    Can someone plz tell me that the King's apartment was reserved for whom???

    • @ArtHistorywithAlder
      @ArtHistorywithAlder  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the purposes of the apartments changed over time. But they likely hosted friends of family of the King when people stayed in them. Some of the rooms were simply used for specific purposes of the King. For example, one room was reserved for his dogs to sleep in. Some rooms displayed art or were for hosting guests for dinner or tea. Here's more info: en.chateauversailles.fr/discover/estate/palace/king-private-apartments#louis-xvs-bedchamber

      @@ArtHistorywithAlder was it reserved for virtually everyone or only for the king and Queen or for the courtiers??

      @@prakritibisht9225 "During the day, the State Apartment was open to all who wished to see the king and the royal family passing through on their way to the chapel. During the reign of Louis XIV, evening gatherings were held here several times a week." (en.chateauversailles.fr/discover/estate/palace/king-state-apartment). The State Apartment was a series of seven rooms.
      Then the King had private apartments, which were rooms more for his own use. (en.chateauversailles.fr/discover/estate/palace/king-private-apartments#louis-xvs-bedchamber)

    None of your criticisms of king Louis are uncommon, nor is the palace. A king IS his country & his people.
