    Oh my Gosh! This video helped me SO MUCH!!! I come from an opera background and I haven't acted or performed in 12 years. I just decided about a month ago to pivot toward a musical theater career. To be honest, I'm so uneasy about it and questioning everything along the way. Your videos have helped and this one in particular has given me hope that I can have the career in theater that I seek.

    I love 32 bar cut so much. What you guys offer is SUCH A GIFT. And I've been around a long time (58 years old) when Backstage was a newspaper! and there was no youtube or internet so to be able to hear from and learn from actual Broadway performers...the youngins' have no idea how valuable this is, and I THANK YOU!

    I feel like your catch phrase should be, "Don't be like me . . . Be like YOU." Thank you for sharing, Adrienne! I really enjoyed and appreciated hearing from you about your experience, reflections, and advice. :) Take care, and be well! Glad you are creating.

    These advices are beautiful. I wish I knew them before drama school as well. Lack of worthiness was amongst the reasons why I didn't pursue a stage career after I graduated. Now I've rediscovered my courage and worth and started a TH-cam Channel!
    Thank you so much for your presence and wise words. 🙏❤️

    I have said "no" to roles in new scripts that I auditioned for initially because, once I was able to read more of the piece, I realized it was not for me (sometimes, usually in terms of messaging :/). I have to live with the messages I put out into the world as a storyteller even at the risk of offending someone. But that's just how I live my life as an actor.

    Gurl, I feel the same way, every point you made hit close to home. Coming from classical music and now doing musical theater does something to your head at times.

    Thank you for such good words ❤ can you talk more about your opera background and why you made the switch? I’ve also been trained in opera and I still want to pursue that… but also musical theater 👀

    Overall great content.
    I have to respectfully disagree with the “I am enough” comment and mantra that’s so pervasive these days.
    Maybe a particular person isn’t enough to get the role. That doesn’t mean they aren’t a valuable person and separating who you are as a person from your ability to be cast in a role or accomplish. Something else is critical.
    You can learn to be happy with yourself and also , not content with where you’re at in a given skill or ability or even an emotional capacity. Yeah idea that “you are enough“ right now where you are at is ridiculous. No one should go through life thinking they have arrived. They should instead go through life, striving to become better in every way that is important to them.
    I recognize there is an unhealthy alternative extreme of self criticism and self loathing and I’m certainly not advocating for that. But to go to the complete opposite extreme is also unhealthy in the big picture. Be at peace with who you are, and at the same time desire to become a better person every day.

      Hi Rosline! Thank you so much! 💗 I love that suggestion! Thank you 😊 I have something similar out. It was actually my first video, so it’s got a few “new TH-camr quirks” but I’ll drop the link here anyhow. th-cam.com/play/PLBY1PYO69Nzq_Jn32270c25brSA9LvQOh.html It’s called “What’s My Type”

    I have felt insecure for years, because I come from an operatic background, too. I have been audtioning for musical theatre projects, and over the past year I have been listening to more musical theatre songs and practicing in a musical theatre style and I think it's starting to flourish a bit; I think I'm figuring out how to belt (I think). However, I still am getting turned down and I have wondered, repeatedly, it is for me? Am I just not meant to do this? (and the worst question I was asked, from someone who is MY age: "Aren't I too old?" -- now, I'm wondering if there's some sort of... secret bias going on behind the scene -- yes, I'm very scared right now. ) Thank you for sharing all of this. It is really hard to get into theatre when you want to, but have a classical background -- especially in London. It's nice to know I'm not alone. xxxx

      @32BARCUT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Jocasta! Thanks for sharing your story. I know it's hard. Try your best to ignore dismissive comments, because the truth is, you have something unique to offer. Your classical background, look and age are what make you YOU. The trick is to just keep at it (if this is your passion) and hopefully, the right casting team, show, producer etc. will see you! Keep encouraged and keep sharpening your skills. You got this! 😃

      @@32BARCUT Thank you, so much! 🤗 I really needed to hear this. I will, definately keep sharpening my skills and learn new things, but not change what I am, for anyone -- especailly casting directors; each of them wants something different! ☺ xxx
