Only now do you recognise genius, many, many of us had 30+ years of enjoying the greatest all round performer who has graced us with his presence in our lifetime...ask anyone, they will all say the same thing, Prince was lightning in a bottle. And he could rock knitwear like no other.
How could anyone see this and think he wasn't the best????? It's beyond me , Yes I'm a huge fan but come on who could even get half this close. He was the best musician of the last 50 years. Fact's 💯
Why are you comparing Prince to Richie Havens? You do realize that Prince’s mom put him out in the streets so this song was coming from some hurt and you can hear it. Even said a Mama Mama why did you put me in the streets
Richie Havens' version not even close. Too fast while Prince slowed it down, and made you feel it spiritually almost gospel-like. And while I like Jimi Hendrix's guitar work. But he wasn't Prince. Prince could play guitar in so many different styles besides him playing the guitar far prettier-sounding than Jimi. Jimi alot of times sounded really distorted and messier while Prince played superbly cleaner notes. But I love them both.
Prince the GOAT of the rock and roll era in terms of a singular artist. He convinced me over the course of nearly 40 years and it just can’t be denied. If you don’t get it maybe music isn’t your thing.
Theres no guitarist present of past that can put up a show like PRINCE!!!!!!Theres no guitarist past or present that has the stage presence and SWAG!! theres no guitarist past or present with the vocals and moves that PRINCE HAS!!!! theres no guitarst past or present that can lead and command a band like PRINCE!!!!!!! SIMPLY THE GOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
no other. the most talented artist of our time without doubt. He is a superlative Hendrix styled player, he has the best of all in one person. Miss you dude!
Prince starting : "You know... There was never any reason to Argue... " For all you can not know, There is a story behind this performance and the complete performance IN this Spanish TV show. There is a reason for his mood here. Prince was at war with Warner, and this program was conducted and hosted by a Warner hired , a singer call Miguel Bose who thought of himself by the way, he was the best in word 😂. The tv show have planned a Prince performance 2 songs and an interview with Prince by Miguel Bose. Prince arrived at the site early to record the program and as always, asked to conduct a 10-minute soundcheck with his musicians. The answer was NO without any reason, surely because of the ego of the host of the show and the Warner war.... What did PRINCE do? After several refusals by the program denying him his logical sound check, he thought about leaving and not recording anything. But it made go so much better. Instead Prince went into his dressing room.... and after a while that the host had him angry for nothing ... The TV show realized that better change mind OR not tv show at all .... Prince was finally able to do his sound check. His reaction? Not give any interviews, not even meet the host of the show and instead give away a big long LIVE performance (35 min ) because of his immense respect for the audience that was there, and all the viewers who would be watching the show on television who were not at fault for anything. Motherless Child was NOT programmed. He just decided to play it. He was hurt by everything that had happened and didn't understand Why. This is why you are watching THIS jewel... Love your reaction and comments. Now you know the context and the real life behind all his performance in this show... And also you have the clue for his mood and his words in the beginnig... Prince was an absolute genius musician and better human being,That song is how he felt again, belittled and mistreated . Just Love this musical jewel, just Real him exposing and giving how he is feeling Through his gift of music.
Prince was a true genius and we will never see his like again, he was music 24/7, his live shows were amazing, that was where he really shone, love him or hate him I guarantee he wrote at least 2 songs everybody loves, I remember being at work listening to the radio and prince came on, one of the girls I worked with hated Prince came over to me and asked who the hell was that its amazing, so I told her, she nearly fainted, that was Diamonds and pearls. I cried when I heard of his passing. Prince wrote some amazing guitar solos, but could play anything
His genius was out of this world. I think it would be hard for anyone to ever rival what he achieved. So glad so much has been captured that we can enjoy now. That said I am sure there is a lot of material out there we will never see the light of day
@@TheThamesmen I remember when he started wearing a veil or wrote slave on his face, people slated Prince but his reason was sound IMO, He signed a deal for 5 albums and the following day handed over 300 fully mastered tracks (only heard in studio and possibly 2 years work) they rejected it all without even listening to a single song. He had fulfilled the contract and more, they wanted him tied up for several years which to Prince made him a slave
he's in the top 10 of all time guitarist, he was that good. greatest artist of all time in Western Popular music. i can't think of anyone better. he was involved in 100 studio albums, half of them his own, including some killer Instrumental Jazz albums. toured almose every year since 1979. not to mention the thousands of unreleased tracks. i feel honoured to have seen him live on 6 occasions. just something else
This isn't a Richie Haven's song granted he did an fantastic version at Woodstock. "Motherless Child" is a spiritual that dates back to the American Civil War and has been covered extensively including a version by Nina Simone. I love Prince's version, it's so intense and personal.
Prince probably knew them other versions but it should also be noted that his father took him to see Woodstock when he was a kid so maybe that was his intro?
I remember vaguely that his parents had a vinyl record of Richie Haven singing this song at Woodstock. Richie's performance was quite something at that moment in time, a breakthrough milestone. The video is on youtube. Prince played that record again and again as a child. He sings in one of his songs (Musicology ?) that he was born too late, he should have been in Woodstock.
Well the producer of the show said Prince had hired a private detective to follow his wife around while they were living in Spain and he just got some news about her ( (not going to go into the details it is the producers book) but upon getting the news he was in bad way. He then went out on the stage
Hello gents...l have never heard or seen this performance before and l am speechless! What a performance! He was on another plane altogether. He was totally immersed. What a loss to the music industry. What a talent!! Loved this! Thanks gents! Your hysterics are entertaining! 😂🤣
The man is a genious when it comes to music. His arrangements and instramentals are impecable. My issue is way back at the beginning when for what ever reason his presonce just hit me the wrong way. It was only later when I gave him another listen that I began to appreciate the musical genious..
The drumbeat and bass is taken from the song he wrote with Martika, Love Thy Will Be Done, and he used them again on his cover of Joan Osborne's One of Us. Brilliant beat
Little trivia about this performance- he was sick as a dog with the flu. You can see the fever flush on his neck. I can barely function if I’ve got the flu, best I can do is to go from my bed to the bathroom and back. But Prince did THIS. I miss sharing the planet with this man.

The crazy thing is, he is improvising throughout this - his vocal, his guitar solos, his band leadership (cuing his band to start and stop). If that isnt enough, he directs the audience, too. The guy was peerless.
The year after he got snubbed in Rolling Stone's top 100 guitarists, and then he did that solo during the George Harrison tribute, Rolling Stone put him in at number 23 the next time they did the list. Did you not notice Larry Graham on bass?

Hi Dragon - we come from Henley On Thames, stunning village on the river. There are so many places, some need cars others need trains. I'd like to be there to show you around!! Head into the Cotswalds!
Motherless Child is a spiritual song performed over 150 years by folk artists, jazz artists and rappers. Some people live dear life as a steady light some live it in flashes. Prince lived very much in the flashes. One of the great sadness is a waste of talent. For me I thought of him that way. Perhaps his regard as a guitarist was overshadowed by his incredible showmanship. Part James Brown part Jimi part Sly Stone and in this video it's a very much a homage to Sly Stone. I very much respect that he wanted to do it his way but sometimes I wonder what could have been.
