What makes that 153 so unique special is the roof rack, thatis an original Volvonpart

The main thing is that you got her going, now you can concentrate, on doing the little repairs, that she may need to keep her going, considering it is a 142, which are rare or scarce to see👌☝️☝️☝️👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Yes, being able to drive it keeps the motivation up to do all the little grunge work. There is tons of stuff to do on this.

Just take your time, so the 142 , can last forever, they are great cars, you have to wonder why did they stop making such popular iconic cars, like the 140 series, 160 series, the 240 series now a lot of those cars are going on well into the big mileage club, and they are still going strong, I still remember when you wanted to use a period correct license plate but you had to settle on the one the car has right now, Good Luck with the 142👌☝️👍👍☝️👌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

If you ever need any help regarding the 142, or any parts, David Bello has his own channel, Volvo Rescue, plus he has restored some Amazons, & now he has a 164"Ivy", good luck with your 142.

David is a good guy. I like what he does. What he and I have discovered is that there is a really good network of Volvo guys, many retired, that are very happy to offer up knowledge. I'm starting to get in contact with some of them, and soak up as much knowledge as I can.

Great to see it moving under it's own power!

Yeah, it was exciting and fun, though "power" is a very loose term here. It should keep me going on this for the next long bit of fixes.

When the video started, I legit thought for a moment you were going to troll us by driving forward a few inches then turning off the engine 😅

That would have been funny! lol

I have some 140 series chrome wheel trim if you want to come to SF I can lay it on you. It needs buffing. I have 6 I think

Thanks for the offer. I have everything, but I took some of it off since I was working on things. Gonna wait till it's all back together before making decisions on how it's going to look. My son like the beater look with everything off and as-is... I'm thinking rat rod, with only the important parts polished up.

Hard to pinpoint what the knocking is. One easy diagnosis is to check the oilpan for fibre chunks. An old timing gear can get very brittle if the car have been run periodically. Not the end of the world if it strips the cogs, but then you will need to wash out the engine to get rid of all the debris. I had that problem with an old 1967 142 (same colour as yours). Started to make sounds like you had left a spanner in the engine. Got to work, tried to start it when later and it just turned over too easy. Took off the valve cover and shorted the starter...sure enough the rocker didn't move : /

Wow, crazy! Two things that were knocking at this point: first was the crank shaft was hitting frothed fuel/oil in the case and making the engine clunk; second, the exhaust has a leak in/near manifold. In a later video I show how after I replaced fuel pump and oil that the major clunk was gone.

New radiator (copper) is over $600.00 and only weighs half as much as an original...

Yes, I will be investing in one, when I get back to the engine. Might also go to an electric fan, depending on the cooling needs when I get the good bits in place. I kinda think of this as a later piece to decide based on need.
