Great video, Thanks! Yes, even a 1% improvement such as the buzzer, although not perfect, is 1 million times better than nothing. If the buzzer helps you find your plane in a few hours then it will have saved your battery from running to 0. And you also get your plane back. So the buzzer will have been "free". I will install them in all of my planes. My experience last year with a plane up in the tree due to an anomaly in the gravity well near our field ( of course only joking.... actually was a stall spin due to too slow speed turning downwind to base leg) the plane was lost up in a tree in the swamp for one month. Once found I was glad to have back the battery, which I revived and still fly with , and the plane is still flying today. A buzzer would have made quick work of finding the plane. No fun walking in the rough. So keep it up! I will put these in all my planes.

Thanks mate, those cheap little things have saved me a loss a few times. I saw one plane come down and was sure I knew where to find it but couldn't see it. It was hanging just above my head low in a small tree. The only time they don't help is if the crash landing is so bad that the battery gets pulled off the receiver. 😕 I have them in all my models too!

I got a flysky, nice TX, it does the job, and is simple to use, even i can use it :)

Thanks mate. Only just bought as I have been on 35 mhz for years. Have changed receivers in 6 models now and still need more! I think it's great and it was only £36 with one rx. Great TH-cam name too ;)

do you have to plug it into a servo or can it just use a spare channel ?? and leave the other tail empty ?

    • @bobflyman
      @bobflyman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The sounder starts sounding when there is no change in input for more than a minute, so it really needs to be in a working channel. Like if you put in ailerons or elevator. Most of my models don't have rudder so I plug into that. When it starts beeping a quick touch of rudder will cancel the beeping. I'd guess if you put it in an open channel it will start beeping after a minute and just keep beeping!

@@bobflyman ok thanks... i was going to buy a few for my flying wings mainly... so i guess i can use the rudder channel then even though its not actually controlling anything on the wing...

I put mine on Chanel 5 (Gear) with the other end empty and mixed it 100% aileron to 100% gear it turns off with the gear switch also when I move the ailerons but only if you catch it before it goes into full alarm mode but not a problem as the ailerons will be in constant use flying so it should not be a problem.

Nice review Bob, it would be good if it had a flashing light as well, are they made?

    • @bobflyman

Thanks Cliff, not that I've heard of but it's a good idea. The beeping has saved my bacon a few times though. I spent ages looking for one model that lost signal and went down. Walked and walked but eventually heard a very faint beeping. I'd never have found it without one. Do you use them?

I'm not quite convinced. Would have been nice to see you hide the plane somewhere outside and walk some distance from it so we could get a sense of how far away it could be heard. Some outdoor locations are a bit noisy from natural occurring sounds like trees rustling in the wind, water flowing in a stream, birds chirping, etc. I lost a plane recently in a densely wooded area near our flying field and was surprised when I realized how much natural noise was actually around. I DID have a buzzer on it that I could turn on and off with my radio but still was not able to find it. There was also some highway traffic noise in the distance so I think the volume on that buzzer was just not loud enough. It SEEMED loud enough when I was right next to the plane but in that particular outdoor environment, it was useless. Also there should be a bright flashing LED on these things for when it gets dark. Still my bad experience turned out well. My wife didn't want me busting my ass looking around all day in a treacherous location, so she bought me new plane.

Nothing is perfect! These things have saved my bacon a few times and flying in the countryside it's peaceful. Just a faint beep can guide you towards it. Cupping hands on ears helps! Flashing strobe would be good, but you are reliant on the lipo lasting till after dark. Did you see my video Going, going gone!

For the first time in quite a few years rc flying I actually lost a model a couple of months ago. I think when it came down, possibly into thick brambles, the beeper must have detached from the rx. No beeps. I spent hours looking. I was videoing the flight so had a very good idea where it went down. I even put a drone up the next day with a camera to see if I could spot it. Lesson one, don't maiden on windy days. Lesson 2. Rx should have a cover. But I still reckon for the money, dead cheap, they are better than nothing!

Hello, after having been close to lose some of my gliders in trees or in the mountains, and having killed batteries or cells after forgetting it plugged onto the Rx, I think it is time to find a way to avoid these unpleasant "experiments" 😅
The 2 drawbacks for me are the added weight (4.5 to 6gr) on a model where the Rx is 2.5gr, and the servos another 2 to 5gr (overall weight 70 to 250gr), and the fact that it seems to run on 5V only.
Most of my models run either directly on 2S (8.4Vmax for added reactivity and Vbattery telemetry) or 1S (F3K, 4.2Vmax for minimum weight), So in this case, I guess I should put a micro-BEC inline with this Beeper in order to power it only with 5V, but still monitoring one servo output...
Any other advice/option for this use case ?
    Best, From French Alps 😉

EDIT I just tested this model finder with FS i6 mini rx one small 10A ESC and with a 1s lipo AND THE MODEL FINDER WORKED. It didn't work when I tested with a 20A ESC though and I can't guarantee it will work with your kit but when I turned off the TX the finder beeped! Worth trying. www.banggood.com/custlink/3DvYn8tHyn
Bonjour mon ami, Lucky you living in the Alps! I have been paragliding 20 years and most years have been down in my camper to Annecy, St.Hilaire, Col de Sapenay, Roche Brune near Monaco etc. but mostly near Greolieres in the Alpe Maritime, my favourite place in the World and I have travelled a lot! 2 years ago I had superb time. Great weather, lots of flights, but last year really bad weather so this year I didn't go. Weather everywhere now is crazy!
But to answer your question a 5v BEC would work. One a model with no rudder I just plug the model saver into ch4 , it works when there is no input for a while. Or most fit inline from rx to the servo in use. I just blip the rudder occasionally and it stays quiet. It is a little extra weight but nothing in a 200 g model and they have saved me losing a model many times! But if using a one cell lipo and cant see and answer? Sorry. web cam at St. Hilaire. They are flying today. There are 3 Ecole du parapente there. www.prevol.com/webcam/

@@bobflyman Hi, thanks for the input, good to know it works with 1s... but maybe not down to 3.2-3.3 volts... For sure I won't try with 2s 🤣
Actually, I live and work 15km away from St Hilaire... I fly models there from time to time... Nice to see this place is really known worldwide, I thought this was a legend... 😉

I wear hearings aids too mate, and in a quiet flying location it's surprisingly audible. I have recovered a couple of mine that I can say would have been lost forever without one fitted. And better than nothing anyway!
