I’m a bit worried about Ike getting attention from this myself, he is definitely very good but nowhere near “broken” territory if you ask me. He’s been placed high tier in most tier lists but never top, which indicates to me that he’s not really viewed as an oppressive character or anything.

Something else that they pointed out was how turnips could intercept ike's side b and he gets his up b back, but I would've liked to see samsora go out after triggering Ike's side b and hitting him with a nair or something, guaranteeing the kill. I'm envisioning something like turnip throw, either it hits ike and he dies, or ike hits it and he gets hit, abusing ike's linear recovery. Anyways I don't wanna come off as too negative, but I do want to see the commentary game evolve b/c I think that would help the whole scene grow. And I think it's good to see hbox commentating, I just wished people would be more constructive on his commentary.
Link does get hit by his explosions and the bombs themselves. I've heard about Peach not getting hit by her explosive before so I'm gonna assume it's true at this point even if I haven't seen it.

@ace power It seems to work off of positioning more than speed. Like, if Samsora was on the left side of the platform, then Leo would go there, then at the last moment waveland to the right side of the platform away from any sort of hitbox the Samsora could throw out. Although, when the meta evolves, you may see players try and predict this to punish it, so it might be a tricky mixup at best. I kinda want to see how far it goes.
I'm so happy to see that the entire Ultimate roster is mostly balanced. The variation of characters (and, to an extent, stages) we see in these tournaments is probably the best out of all the Smash games. Also the music they chose for PS2 is hype af
i dont know if you are ignorant or naive but it always starts like this. but do not get it twisted. this game will have the same effect long term every fighting game does. as of now the only characters that really desperately need buffs are bowser jr, shiek, ridley, and bayonetta. all these characters dont work as they should either kit not fitting, landing lag, or killing issues.

There’s a whole team behind the balancing for Ultimate this time, it’s not just Sakurai anymore. I’m just saying the roster right now is the best day-1 balance I’ve seen from a fighting game so far. Just look how obnoxious peach is right about now, and she is the perfect example of a character that has it all. Priority over most of the attacks? Check. Good recovery? Check. Spammy projectiles you can't just outright trade with them? Check. Kind of difficult to launch for a character that's not heavyweight? check. And finally but not least important... The ability to combo 0-80 with half the effort you require with other characters because her follow ups are so easy and free? check. I think the ignorance is strong in you;however, I do agree Ridley alone needs a major buff instead of bowser jr and sheik who have tools to make plays WAY WAY easier than a good and dedicated Ridley player.

Awesome to see an ike main win a major in ultimate, I thought it would be zero vs mkleo grand finals but the peach mains seemed to be giving zero a lot of trouble (he lost to samsora and muteace).

I love Leo but i believe in a year, his Ike will be completely irrelevant because once people get better at parrying, that falling neutral, Ike’s main tool, with be very punishable. Edit: Just wanted to clarify that i believed Ike as a character would become irrelevant, not Leo himself since he is amazing and has a plethora of other characters to choose from. Also “completely irrelevant” was probably too strong of words but I definitely feel like Ike won’t be as good as he is now. Also yes I am aware there are tomahawks and all sorts of other mixups that Ike’s can do to prevent getting parried, but I still feel parrying will greatly hurt Ike. But at the same time I’m no professional and could probably be wrong lol but I guess we’ll see in time.
Leo is a prodigy. A character of his isn't just going to become obsolete because you managed to do something as basic as adapt to his playstyle. There are mixup options to counter a shield- and parry-happy player like airdodge cross ups, double jump falling aerials, and outright tomahawk grabs.
Sure, spacing on shield with nair can be parried, but these nairs have been used to punish moves rather than just hit on shield. Like ladder combos from platforms, aggressive approaches, punishing laggy startup speeds, and rolling.

I feel that Ike is gonna stay around high tier throughout Ultimate’s life. AT WORST he’ll be bumped down to high Mid or low high, but I think he’s kinda cemented into that area. Ike has other good stuff about him besides his nair. Amazing strings, huge range, tons of damage and TONS of knockback, coupled with faster speed and reduced landing lag, Ike is looking VERY scary. I don’t really see how they could make him a BAD character.
It covers part of the screen. Some characters might be harmed/helped by this; for example, Peach likes to float near the blast zone to catch people coming back to stage, and she might be covered up by the map.
Nintendo often watch the grand final of big tourneys and nerf according to how they played. Just look at greninja, diddy, captain falcon in smash 4. The story will repeat itself if Nintendo still have the same mentality toward competition
@divide two I think a key example of a good counterpick character is Shulk, as long as he's in a matchup were he can't be zoned out he absolutely dominates due to his speed and range.
At around 15:55 Ike hit's Peach with his Bair causing the zoom in, but the funny thing is that Ike got hit by the bomb immediately after which actually killed Ike before Peach. Can you imagine if that was the last stock for both of them? That would have been the jankest win.
Gosh, HBox sounds so different after commentating for a few weeks. I didn't know for sure he was on commentary until this video. On the other hand, MKLeo is coming in like he did with Smash 4. His ability to pull out unprecedented results with underused characters is insane. Watching this video made me feel as unprepared as when MKLeo started their dominance with Marth in Smash 4.

@@kevinalbarn120 if you go to MKleo’s page, you will see on his matchup chart video he shows footage of samsora’s peach beating him and he explains why he thinks he can’t beat specifically samsoras peach as joker due to how good she is and how good he is, obviously leo’s considered the best in the world but you can not discredit the literal next in line worldwide

I love Leo but i believe in a year, his Ike will be completely irrelevant because once people get better at parrying, that falling neutral, Ike’s main tool, with be very punishable.
Edit: Just wanted to clarify that i believed Ike as a character would become irrelevant, not Leo himself since he is amazing and has a plethora of other characters to choose from. Also “completely irrelevant” was probably too strong of words but I definitely feel like Ike won’t be as good as he is now. Also yes I am aware there are tomahawks and all sorts of other mixups that Ike’s can do to prevent getting parried, but I still feel parrying will greatly hurt Ike. But at the same time I’m no professional and could probably be wrong lol but I guess we’ll see in time.

Leo is a prodigy. A character of his isn't just going to become obsolete because you managed to do something as basic as adapt to his playstyle. There are mixup options to counter a shield- and parry-happy player like airdodge cross ups, double jump falling aerials, and outright tomahawk grabs.

Sure, spacing on shield with nair can be parried, but these nairs have been used to punish moves rather than just hit on shield.
Like ladder combos from platforms, aggressive approaches, punishing laggy startup speeds, and rolling.

I feel that Ike is gonna stay around high tier throughout Ultimate’s life. AT WORST he’ll be bumped down to high Mid or low high, but I think he’s kinda cemented into that area. Ike has other good stuff about him besides his nair. Amazing strings, huge range, tons of damage and TONS of knockback, coupled with faster speed and reduced landing lag, Ike is looking VERY scary. I don’t really see how they could make him a BAD character.
The commentary was on point. Very fun to listen to during the match.
Why do they have the off-screen map turned off?
It covers part of the screen. Some characters might be harmed/helped by this; for example, Peach likes to float near the blast zone to catch people coming back to stage, and she might be covered up by the map.

@divide two I think a key example of a good counterpick character is Shulk, as long as he's in a matchup were he can't be zoned out he absolutely dominates due to his speed and range.

At around 15:55 Ike hit's Peach with his Bair causing the zoom in, but the funny thing is that Ike got hit by the bomb immediately after which actually killed Ike before Peach. Can you imagine if that was the last stock for both of them? That would have been the jankest win.

Ike looks pretty great in this game.
Gosh, HBox sounds so different after commentating for a few weeks. I didn't know for sure he was on commentary until this video. On the other hand, MKLeo is coming in like he did with Smash 4. His ability to pull out unprecedented results with underused characters is insane. Watching this video made me feel as unprepared as when MKLeo started their dominance with Marth in Smash 4.
