Common forum wisdom, usually wrong, says the Jc120 doesn’t take dirt pedals well. These all sound great. Yet another reason people should ignore forums.
I’m currently running a Klon clone, Rat, and Russian Muff as my dirts into my JC. All three sound fantastic and every other pedal I’ve tried through it all sound great.
On the contrary what brought me here was forums saying this was the best platform when i went searching for tube answers. I like setting the amp super clean with an always on pedal for that edge of breakup and then a stack for the real drive sounds. I like how the modulation is included.
I find they’re not always reliable like people saying emg hz is terrible and chaos ridden years is a good example but some of alexi’s cheaper signatures don’t have the gain boost but still sound like his tone even when you don’t have his fingers
I've got an older model from the '80s that's still my go-to amp for everything. I've owned it for 15+ years and never had a problem with it. Best solid state amp I've ever owned.
I picked up a 1978 jc120 for 300$ and I didn't think it was possible to be blown away by an amp I searched videos as I waited to go pick it up and to my absolute amazement I heard things in my guitar I've never heard before hands down one of the greatest amps ever made........
Played one a couple days ago and was blown away by the amps clean, reverb and chorus. Probably one of my favorites cleans now . The slight gain on channel 2 is amazing.
Love this amp..I actually recently found a JC-77 for free, and not working. Looks like when the fuse blew, someone replaced it with a new one. But twisting the back to take out the fuse…the wires inside snapped off going to the power switch. So I soldered it back on an Bam! It works great now! Found it on birthday of all days! But I’ve been looking at one for years. I’ve had Marshall 800,900 and 2000 stacks, vox ect. But this amp fits best for me. Awesome for Cure,Smiths,Joy Division 80s type tones. As well as 90s grunge and such. On its own it’s a brilliant chorus if left moderate you could use the entire set. Makes it thick and lush! When clean I love running Tech 21 pedals throw it! I have a blonde tech 21 that emulates old fenders. It really pairs well as a DI amp, such a clean sound. Hell all of Use You Illusion and Appetite for Guns N’ Roses clean guitars…you guessed were this amp clean with the chorus…think Dont Cry and the rest. Has a very distinct tone, but also takes effects the best. Honestly one of the best versatile amps for studio and live imo. It all gets mic anyway, so a huge amp means not much.
I own one and a few tube amps. But if I want to stack a bunch of pedals? This is the amp I use. Very sensitive and effective eq. Stereo FX loop. Killer built in chorus and spring reverb. No complaints.
Well, this video changed my mind on the next amp I am going to buy. I knew this amp was great but after hearing this, I see that it will far out perform the amp I was looking to buy.
It took a while to pull the trigger, but my JC 40 just showed up yesterday. It's a little bit smaller but believe me it's got plenty of power and does everything that the jc-120 does. And since I'm not really playing out in a band in big clubs it doesn't matter for me. I was in a band back in the late 80s, I played the bass, but our guitar player had a JC 120. And it was awesome so I knew that that was the type of amp, the sound that I wanted!
Try using overdrive pedal through the distortion channel slightly distorted, I think it will sound vastly fuller. At least that's how my pedals work best through a solid state amp
Had a JC 77 since mid 80's. Cleanest amp ever, it sparkles, absolutely the best amp for pedals platform. That's what it was made for- Boss pedals, if you have dirt in the preamp of the amp anything other than OD/Dist will sound horrible. Modulation, delay reverb must be in the fx loop. That's why the Jazz Chorus series are made to accept all pedals!!!!!
what determines using different mics in different positions is it to match something as there’s a significantly different sound coming out of each speaker obviously
Great clean platform … not tube but super 80’s clean. That chorus? Awesome. The reverb on my amp … not great. But the clean with the chorus. Heaven. Dirt? Nah. I wish. I love my JC 77 … so nice. Just wish I could find a good overdriven tone with this amp. Would to take it in a jam.
I have a 1982 version of jc120 and i ve notice the 1st channel (low) is way better for distortion/ overdrive pedals. Second channel suit better for clean and chorus.
Curious about how this beast is built. The edging and rivets look like metal but are they all plastic? Housing built from MDF instead of plywood? I see where comments were made that the 50th anniversary edition is just a cheap veneer. Not trying to bash the amp, just looking at ways to make it build it special. Thinking about buying new but another approach is to buy used and swap any mdf for plywood with a real veneer or even hardwood. Amp sounds great as is, maybe just use it and enjoy the thing. Torn between the 120 and a 40. The 40 is probably all I need but a good smooth bass push would be cool.
Classic JC 120. Do the attenuators ( chorus/depth knobs) work to adjust level effect amounts independently ? My JC 120 chorus section when turned on , is always at the fullest effect setting. I wish I could control the amount of chorus effect on this amp.
What songs were you playing in the vibrato and distortion sections of the video? Also, i own a JC22. Little ass thing in comparison to the 120 but damn does it sound good. And it's so loud, it's a brilliant amp. I thought about replacing it for a valve amp to get better gain and distortion but i can't give this clean and chorus tone away, it's too good, just too good
@@AlbertoMartinezDelRio Actually i was thinking of replacing it, for a vintage JC-50. Cause the JC-50 has the vibrato and the distortion on top of the chorus and reverb and it has more power. Could you also tell me what song you where playing at 0:45?
I've been playing guitar for over 35 years, worked in music retail from '97-'11. Never heard the term "takes pedals well"" regarding amps Until 2022. What the heck are you guys talking about???

The Roland JC amps are freakin awesome with pedals. If you think otherwise it's your fault because you don't know what you are doing with the JC amps. Do your homework critics/slaggers!
Plus he’s playing stuff that really lets you hear the tone, resonance of the chords, strike of the strings, etc, not just playing fast solos to try and impress.
Thanks for comment. Nothing at all ... the famous "hiss" has never seemed a problem when recording or using it live ...I checked the recording project in case I had done anything special but nothing ... A little Hp filter and a touch of LA-2A ... Nothing more!
@@AlbertoMartinezDelRio ok gotcha, also I just figured out you can do a cable jumper between the channels idk if you’ve done that yet, but get a patch cable and input them between the channels and you can get a deeper detailed tone

los fender suenan bien pero cuano pasan los 50 watts para arriba, y pasando del volumen 5, con este JC lo pones al 2 y tienes suficiente para cualquier genero que toques ademas que toma los pedales como si fueran hecno para este ampli
