Matusow admitted in a recent interview the he would use meth and/or mdma before playing when he was younger. Mdma will get your jaw moving like that for sure.
This was one of the few shows I used to TiVo….it’s kind of weird looking at this now and realizing these guys are not really playing serious poker here.
Poker strategies have evolved since the 2000's but Hellmuth strategies stayed the same.

How should one interpret a down bet? As a sign of weakness?
@@HankTheTank23 it depends if the player is balancing which most online regs are at least trying to do. Some boards like A82 are often downbet by the initial raiser especially vs the BB.

@@HankTheTank23 On a lot of disconnected boards heads up then downbets work very well. Imagine Mike doesn’t have 33 but has KJ, QJ, J8s, 67s, Q10s K10s or 22,44,66,77 etc etc
Since he will have a ton of garbage that has missed and is now small pairs or J high sort of hands then the initial raiser can apply a ton of pressure since they have a ton of better hands as well as the 89,J10 hands themselves.
When you bet small here with A high your denying equity to a hand like QJ of diamonds as well as applying pressure. Against a 1/3 pot sizing then your opponent should defend 20% of their range - now keep in mind how much garbage Mike will have that has totally bricked and he has to defend 80% of it or risk being exploited.
That means mikes defending any pair, any pocket pair, basically all A high and some hands with back doors as well as flush draws.
You can fold out the QJ diamonds sort of hands maybe some of the K10 and KJ hands with no backdoor flush draws etc
Now we get to the turn where Mike still has alot of rags that didn’t want to fold flop to that sizing. You can check back A high here and plan to call rivers - or you can go full equity denial and bet big here to fold out the pocket pairs and better A high hands. Having A8 isn’t terrible as you block 89s.
All the GTO softies get rekt by Phil. If you are so smart, go 1vs1 with him, he will clean you out of the table in 5 mins ez lol.

Exactly, it's fun to poke at Phil because he plays the heel and his blowups are hilarious, but you don't win that many bracelets and become that big a name in poker by being a chump.

I have perfect pitch, and what's really getting me is Matusow singing "Yesterday" in the right key! He's a little bit flat, but still he has pitch memory and that can be turned into absolute pitch if trained.
That was a real surprise!
