Might be an age thing but its my favourite island and I've been to a few round Thailand over the past 20 years, Koh Kood is nice but even more chilled 🤙🤙
Not sure if everything's changed in a year but I was there a couple of weeks ago and all the restaurants and bars were open until late, nothing closed at 5!!! It definitely wasn't 130 baht for a beer anywhere, 80 or 90 was standard for a big bottle of Chang. The food also seemed reasonably priced.
Koh Chang is amazing. Been there already many times. Gonna book again for the end of this month. It's perfect for escaping the busy Bangkok. If you are complaining for THB 100????!!!! Come on man, you only lives once!!!!
I also was so looking forward to koh chang.i went there last november.i stayed in kai bae.i didnt think it was overly expensive.i enjoyed beers late @ night.a walking st area in kai bae.its not as lively as i expected but it has some nightlife.i got motor bike hire for 250 bath a day,so not expensive.its a long journey & yes its sad to see the elephants in chains.i enjoyed my trip but theres nothing to bring me back there.samet it a handier trip & nicer beaches
There is bars open too late this lad just had a bad time,I love koh chang, plus it's a small island and it's not expensive it's couple pound more maybe but still cheap
Haha, I was there a month ago for 3 days and I have the exact same complaints! But there is a little bit of nightlife around lonely beach and I still have good memories of the place.
Hi mate , it’s always going to be more expensive than the likes of Pattaya & Bangkok every island is the same in my opinion I’ve been to Koh Chang and loved it and I’m heading back there this Christmas I’ve been to Koh Samui , Koh Phangan Koh Tao Phuket Phi phi and Krabi to name a few and there all more expensive but it’s still a lot cheaper than back here in the UK
It sounds like you would recommend the island. Is there enough going on there for a geezer to get something cold to drink well into the evening and a few decent places to eat where you go? And where is that one the island? thanks
@@ThatWasThenThisIsNow-yn1eq yes mate plenty going on there are there is a good bar complex for drinks and fun😉 close to white sands beach on Koh Chang If you go there definitely hire a scooter it’s a really chilled island and great to explore Give it a go mate 👍🏻
It's just not a well developed tourist spot, which is a good and bad thing, depending on what you like. The chained elephants is definitely a deal breaker for me though.
It seems perfect for me…but I am looking for a more relaxed time. I am 53 so it is great there are islands like this. One last time I have never been in a place where the taxi drivers don’t try to scam you. Anyway I have been visiting thailand since the end of the 80’s and it’s a wonderfull place. It’s easy to get around most people are polite and helpfull. My plan is to visit koh Chang in 202y before that I will visit the north of Thailaind which I love. Great travels to you in the future
this is just a perspective, I think its cheaper and more relaxed than other islands. The taxi ,,scam'' is everywhere In Thailand, in the end end drives the taxi you half an hour for 4 $. Yes the elephant scam is really bad and the nightlife is not as good as in over places.
I loved koh Chang and will go back again and again as long as I can do so. I will also go to.Koh Samui, and Koh Kood And any other islands that strike my fancy.
Hello there! I stayed at this hotel Alina Grande Hotel & Resort, at White Sand Beach, the best beach to stay in Koh Chang, its 50m walking distance from the beach. The Resort was really nice, clean, near everything, I highly recommend. Greetings
Was there last week. 3 nights was plenty for me. Didn’t notice it being more expensive, but it was much quieter than I expected, from Lonely Beach down especially. Some people might be looking for that sort of thing. Zero excitement 😆
Ko Chang was great, I got food poisoning though after a fun night out on the lonely beach 😢 went to hospital after throwing up 5 times, be safe with food everyone ❤
We were there in August and loved it. It was quiet but we had most stuff to ourselves... we noticed there were a few bars open but we didn't really go for the nightlife and there was a sports bar that played all the football. You're right about the elephants though we noticed they were riding them on Kai Bae beach which was a shame... other than that one of our favourite places. 100 baht isn't much of a stretch for a taxi i would say and our motorbike was 200 baht a day only place we have had cheaper than that was in the north.
I personally enjoyed it spent songkran there , before making my way to Pattaya , I had made my way from Ko Rong Cambodia via Trat , there was nightlife , two bar areas little Pattaya and walking street around 4 miles apart and Babylon nightclub, and if your into the night time entertainment there were girls there to entertain you , , the beaches was ok ghost ship beach was decent and I stayed at cookies hotel on the beach , lots of restaurants particularly good was palms 15 and sabay ( I think it’s called ) It’s not koh samui so don’t expect too much but it enjoyed it for the 5 nights I was there 100% agree on the baht bus , I was charged 700 for a 15 min journey by myself and I felt aggrieved , I hired a moped £8 a day , I organised my journey to Pattaya for 3000 baht so not too bad
I have been to every single thai island over more then 15 years and 40 trips and ko chang is my favorite island, still undeveloped compared to others and you feel the island vibe much more, i personally hate samui, Phuket, phiphi ,but it all depends what you are looking for …
Liking your videos man! I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience in Koh Chang. To be honest, it is my favorite spot in South Thailand, though. Night life is lacking depending on what you're looking for. Most bars are open until midnight. When they close, there are only a few other bars still open. Golden Flower near the night food market stays open all night sometimes. Babylon is the only night club on the island and stays open as long as there are people there. I agree that it is a much more chill and quiet place compared to other parts of Thailand. Going to a bar late at night will likely be maybe 5 to 15 people there. I went to Babylon one night, and there were 4 people in the whole night club. Most of the bar goers are older retired guys or traveling expats, it seems. If you're looking for crowds of people vibing to some EDM and having a blast you wont find it in Koh Chang. Depending on what you're looking for or expecting, this could be bad or good. I personally like the smaller crowds and more chill vibe.
We seem to be in a minority re Koh Chang. I visited in 2006 when I was living & working in Thailand. Looked forward to the trip as had only heard good things but it left me distinctly meh. Had travelled down from Koh Samet - a weekend place for me - & much preferred the vibe there. Didn't go back & based on my experience, wouldn't recommend. Koh Samet every time tho 💓
Koh Phangan is insanely expensive man. The taxis from the ferry here are 150/200 at least unless you stay in Thongsala. Accomodation is very, very expensive. Which area do you stay in Chang?
i went there in 2017 and stayed in Thongsala so i can see how it would cost more more now especially if your on the other side of the island near pearl beach mate
@@mactvtravel trust me i've been in 2017 as well. I had a beach bungalow for €12 a night, right on the ocean. Phangan is probably the most expensive island (way more than Samui) right now in Thailand thanks due the popularity it got with digital nomads. I pay €650 for a bungalow for a month. Not on the beach, but near. Food is still to be found cheap. Even the 7-11 is mote expensive here than in Koh Lanta, BKK, CNX, Koh Samui and Phuket.
Hmm, part of me says that the chill/quiet nature of the island would be perfectly fine, the other part of me wonders if I should listen to you and not just go to find out for myself.....thanks for the info though
I can get him. It really makes boring sometimes , when nights are dark and had to find any lively bar /pub open. And , yeah travelling in Thai remote places feels like ages if you do not have much time. One can relate the trip from Suratthani station to Donsak pier, or to Krabi just reaching those destination takes more than hours traveling at high speed. Yes, views of some beautiful nature will be there, Imagine people waiting to grab a drink and jump on the pool. I always felt like that , when I was 5-7 years younger. Now , I do prefer peaceful area, less crowded , windy but there has to be some positive vibes. We were in 'Koh MAAK', just last month after 7 it was pitch dark, the resort was big in area, the restaurants and open bars were closed. The whole island had one disc kind of bar was open, but looks like that is visited by Thai young students Since there is no 7 11 , we went to some local store to grab some drinks and Ice, had them inside the our rooms, as mosquitos were terrible. During non peak season, Koh Phangan is a great place to stay, Koh phi phi , koh lipe, Koh Samui has nightlife ; every night but clubs are deteriorate over the years
There are a lot of sand flies. These nasty bugs will bite and after 24 hours that bite will itch like crazy. So be careful. They usually come out at dusk and dawn. However on less crowded beach there are sadly more.
I had a good time there for 16 days , paid 20baht to go 10 mins from the ferry . I don’t know what time of year he went but there’s nightlife there . Plenty of not all was open when I was there .
I spend a lot of time on the island all I can say is this guy must’ve walked around with his Eyes shut, I’m complaining about paying 100 baht to get to your resort really they are quite a distance from the port , I think you are more of a bar monkey type of tourist plenty of bars restaurants on the island it is not as commercial as other islands but that is why we like it, A tip from Rick I live in Thailand you need to be very careful how you disrespect culture talking about how they treat their animals are the best they will give you a slap for being disrespectful But I have seen people get a lot worse
Just got back from Koh Kood even less nightlife than Koh Chang. Harder to get around, and very limited places to eat outside the resorts which overcharge on food and drink.
Clickbait video... Disagree with everything you say. Lots of nightlife just not Pattaya nightlife.... Had a motorbike for a week and it was cheaper than Phuket or Koh Samui. Yes accomodation is more expensive but thats because it's limited and because it's limited it stops the island from being overrun and spoilt like Samui, Phuket, Pattaya. Found food and drink prices to be on par with any other island.
White sand beach, Kai bai, chai chet, lonely beach all had bars open until at least midnight when I went in January 2021. I was going to go back but thinking twice now

If your staying in Patong and just chilling around that area it’s quite easy to walk from place to place, however if you want to explore Phuket old town and the other beaches local taxi would be the best option 500 baht from Patong to old town 👍
