Not cotton, they use rayon now. Some people replace it with cotton balls, just make sure it’s 100% cotton. If you have a jet insert make sure you use the highest quality butane you can get, at least 10x filtered.

My tip for those whose lighters seem to evaporate fuel quickly: I don't carry mine in my pocket so I keep it in a small Ziploc plastic bag when I'm not going to use it for a while and especially overnight.

If you need to replace your fuel tank rayon fillings inside a Zippo, you can use tampon fillings as substitutes. As in, cannibalize a lady hygiene device and use the liquid absorbing materials from a tampon inside your Zippo. This material retains fluid very well and is well suited for the job. Don't over-stuff the fuel tank with cotton. If you pack it in too densely, the fluid will have nowhere to go, and this reduces the lighter's service time per top up. You'll want the cotton to have a little bit of room to expand. It's not a good idea to wrap the wick around the flint tube. This is a very tight and cramped space, it makes removing the wick later harder and more difficult, and this is not the best position for the wick to absorb fluid from the fuel tank. So ideally, zig-zagged or not, you'll want the wick to be in the middle of the fuel tank.
Thanks for watching. You don’t necessarily need to do all of this for it to “work.” You can take a brand new Zippo and throw fuel in it and it will “work.” However, if you want to maximize its performance and work how it is meant to, yes this is the best way to do it.
Different Lighter fluid shouldn’t be a problem. I would personally stick with using zippo wicks. I have heard some people use hemp wick beeswax twine, but have not seen how it holds up
@@JRO_Lights sorry for the sudden reply again, but, I have a little problem with the insert. For some context, I was out of town for a few days and left my zippo at home. BUT, I must've forgotten to put the insert back onto the case since when I went back the insert was just lying in the floor, and with closer inspection, the little hinge was broken. I'm not sure what it's called exactly but after I found out that the little hinge on the insert was broken I just didn't use it for the time being since I thought it would be kinda dangerous with the case not staying closed

The true purpose of the case is to extinguish the flame. It’s inability to maintain fully close wouldn’t affect anything. The only thing the damaged insert effects would be the click or how the case closes. Best solution, send it in to Zippo or put in a different insert. 😁

Depends on how much you use it. Depends on brand of fuel, amount of wick length, and if you “weaved” the wick throughout the lighter. From those who do on the regular May refill every 2-3 days. Without using mine regularly it lasts up to a week or maybe 2 weeks. (That’s pushing it but it has happened)
If you don’t use it you will still have to fill it up once a week or as needed. The fuel does evaporate No you can “dry fire” a Zippo, it is not dangerous. I carry a zippo everywhere I go, and do not use it on a regular basis. I may put full in it once every 2 weeks or so.

Thanks for sharing! First of all, Make sure you’re using good lighter fluid to fill it up. Ronsonol, Zippo ect. (Remember Zippos don’t come pre fueled) Follow the steps in the video. Make sure you’re not overfilling. In extreme cases, it’s worth pulling everything out, letting the cotton and wick dry and reassembling.
Eliminate the felt, add more cotton in its place, slip a piece of the bottom of a sandwich bag over the end to seal and slide insert back into case. Your lighter will last 2x longer. You’re welcome. 😎
I’ve seen that and done that, but at that point just get a yellow flame butane insert, last 5x longer. I fill my yellow flame butane every 3-6 months (at least.)

I think that’s fine for some, some are so tight you can damage or bend the case.

New butane lighters are great to if it seems they evaporate to quickly.

Yea, I used to do that, but you gotta be careful. To much torque could damage the case. That spring can be in there tight.
I only do that with my street chrome one the others I haven even lit I just have them for collector purposes
A piece of nilon wraps the two sides of the zippo tube around the bottom to help the zippo avoid scratching the tube and hold gasoline longer
