yeah, i was speaking to a few german natives when doing this they basically say "what none of that really makes sense" - the line in question goes 斬り裂くのは(Ringe|ringel|linie) der Torheit, which means that whatever in god's name he's actually saying, it needs to be cuttable 斬り裂く meaning "to destroy by cutting" so the closest i could possibly get was assuming he was talking about the rings present in chains, since linked horizon _loves_ chains
Actually, native german here, "Torheit" has nothing to do with "Tor"(door), but comes from "Törich(keit)" which means a lot of negative things along the lines of aggressive, stupid, often used for children that dont learn and act very pretentious. A very old word (as makes sense with most of the anime having old-german words). So "Ringe der Torheit" being the actual lyrics it's more of a dramatical translation than a literal one. Ring should be taken as something you can pass through, but also something that keeps repeating itself. So basically, very bluntly, you have to do a lot of shit to keep going, as the lyrics go "Clenching our resolve to our hearts, we tear through" and official pages translate it as "spiral of foolishness" which fits pretty well. Das liegt daran, dass Japanisch und Deutsch von der Aussprache sich fast identisch anhören. Deswegen ist es für Englisch sprachige Leute auch so schwer japanisch zu lernen. Das Grundkonzept der Sprache ist einfach anders als bei den Ammis.
