I just LOVE your videos! I'm a retired Master Locksmith, just now learning how to repair small engines (a fellow Hoosier, transplanted to Texas). Your videos are very informative, and so entertaining that it makes watching other (grass rats') channels boring. I appreciate what you bring to the industry from all your accumulated experience. Next time I visit my friends and family in Indiana (Brazil, Rockville, Indianapolis), I'll make an effort to visit your shop.
I think that snow kitty is a pretty cool build. I’ve got a couple conveyor belts. Probably enough for dozens of those but I’ll start with one. Heavy duty too. I could build a trailer for taking the trash to the curb. I’m already doing it in my head. If I get it completed I’ll send a picture. Thanks for the inspiration. It looks like a lot of fun too. My wife thinks I’ll never grow up!
FANTASTIC Video 😊... love this channel just for this type of stuff. Wicked good idea on a walk-behind grader (!). Watching him flying up and down the road... downright hilarious 😂 😅😂
No more excuses for being late LOL love your channel bro the professional know-how with the comedy you can't beat. Or replicate. Appreciate the hard work you put in to keep us knuckle Busters informed.
Taryl, I bet your man with the mill has a ton of spacers, collars etc laying around. I'd ask him if he has any he doesn't want. I ended up with several five gallon mud buckets full that way. I was 15 years old and dumpster diving outside of a machine shop and the machinist came outside and we talked a while. He was really nice and appreciated my interest in the same things as him. He offered me more than I could fit on the home made trailer I was towing with my bike.
Hey when you add a headlight, make sure you add a incandescent headlight. Just my opinion. Here’s why an LED headlight will gather snow over it while you’re snowblowing and it will not melt the snow so you will have to clear off the headlight constantly. I know this because I added LED lights to my snowplow, and I had to switch back to incandescent. Great video !!!😊😊😊
Kinda like the Wright Bros. building that first airplane. Keep improving the design until you’re satisfied. 😁 Nice job Taryl, the machine turned out nicer than I was expecting. The hydraulic disc brake is slick, and sure stops well using the jackshaft for the rotor. 👍🏻 I’m looking forward to the next chapter on this.
Drilling the shaft to allow the set screw to clamp to the divot in the shaft is a good idea. It also makes it easier to remove the sprocket at a later date because the set screw doesn't mar up the shaft. Another method of securing the set screw is to put a second set screw on top of the first set screw. I found out the hard way that older Wheel Horse tractors did that. Nice build!
Got an idea that would help in really deep snow. You can run right up to a snow bank and not get stuck. If sitting idle on the snow and the snow dog sinks in a bit, no problem. The idea is mounting a ramp in front of east track. Trailer fenders could be cut and mounted upside down or they could be fabricated out of heavy gauge sheetmetal. Can the tracks can not be lowered for more ground clearance? Some skis to replace the wheels with might be a plus. I like your machine and hope to see more progress. If you get yours dialed in in a way that works for you, I might copy it lol. Much easier to let someone else do the R&R. ;)
Thank you, thank you, thank you for spelling ‘whoa’ correctly (unlike so many other TH-camrs)! Also, I watched the original build a while ago and that thing is still cool af!
great video! Awesome project!! is there a such thing as going to fast?? LOL! Thank You for the info in this video. Love watching your videos. one man's junk, is another man's treasure. there's your dinner! :) :)
Very Cool build! I think your extra speed is from the final drive diameter with the rubber track installed, not the sprocket alone. So basically the height of the top of the track at the center of the final drive track sprocket. Amazing how stable it is at that speed. Steers pretty well too. Just a great build.
I also was thinking the diameter of the belt in a circle as well for the final input value. Or not. Anywho so glad to see your video. No worries about the wait, it was well worth it Mr. Dactyl.
@@leosweeney7955 The more I think about it, the less confident I am.....haha! Nope, I'm back to where I started. But I'm willing to examine evidence against my position.
i love the surplus center. i have bought tires and wheels, the same keyed shafting, sprockets, and a bulk roll of 420 chain you got and pillow bearings, their $50 179cc snow blower engine with a centrifugal clutch for a go kart i built, lots of hydraulic components for other projects, as well as switches and electrical components. i flatten out the packing paper, and roll it up because it makes excellent masking paper for when i paint things that costs me nothing. this sno-kitty should be tons o' fun come next winter.
I think some of your best content is the custom work and projects you have done. I was told to improvise adapt and overcome when I was younger by an older guy, I think it was a Navy Seal Motto, this always stuck with me. Now I am the old guy and passing on knowledge to the next generation....
You could add an aireator setup under the riding section and use it to airate lawns. Your weight from drsiving it would allow the tines to dig in. You probably have a broken airator in your stash of old broken machines. Also consider mounting a set of skis on the cart for snow use. An old pair of skis cut down to say 14 inches long would do well. Keep up the good work.
The 7 1/2” dimension might be wrong. The thick track adds more diameter to the final sprocket. Measure from the floor to the top of the track. Keep up the great content!
You're so smart, Taryl! The machine runs well, and it is too bad that you can't get a little more ground clearance, even a couple of inches would make a tremendous difference.
I see you’re building a beautiful new building! I’m so happy for you you must be excited! I can’t wait until I can build my own building right now. I’m stuck renting a building for my stuff. I don’t like renting, because at any time you could be thrown out! Let me clarify the building is for sale that I have.
Taryl, you are using a Torqe-a-verter, so you don't want to use the engine rpm in the speed formula. When the engine is running at it's max rpm, the Torqe-a-verter is in over drive and it's small sprocket is actually rotating faster than the engine. Read the manual and it will explain how it goes from reduction to overdrive. You have to determine the rpm of that small sprocket when the engine is at max speed. Hope that helps. Be careful on that thing. It's a real jungle out there!
Always learning more every video! Thanks for the Video! I just got done chasing a gremlin on my mini bike. It would start for 10 seconds then shut off. Found out my metal sharp edge engine cover was cutting into the spark plug wire and grounding out the motor. Had me cleaning my carb and drilling a small hole under the gas cap. Lol
Back when they still used the Osh Kosh Snowfighters here in New York, the V-plows had a shoe that was mounted on the point of the plow. It was turned up in the front so that it wouldn't dig in if it hit the ground.
Great Ride!!! Get a Windshield made up from ¼ " plexi. Tool box ahead of your feet and a ramp up front for airborne activity. 2" ball hitch and receiver.
One more thing for next winter, the trailer with the seat needs some skids for the snow. Maybe some removable snow skis the go under the tires. I think in the snow, the tires are digging in to much. I like the angle on the front plow, but just needs some skid plates, spring loaded tilt would be useful also.
Way to stick with this project! Tire tip: Flat out makes a great ‘special snake oil elixir’ for sealing tires - It saved the same tire on my MTD mulcher, and is nicely appeasing tire replacement on my 20 year old exmark 48in mower too. Slime set a terrible example for tire sealants, but after relying on latex sealants like Stans in my bicycle, I’m now a believer in tire sealants, tubes or tubeless. The effective rarely fail in a wet state, so it’s less messy when you do get around to replacing the tire.
ASE needs to add certification for Small Engine Repair. i stopped certifying since i retired...30 plus yrs ase master, toyota pro tech. you are awesome. you would make an awesome instructor. i taight automotives at a a community college for gm, toyota and chysler and you would have made a great addition to our department. now i play with small engines
This is cool! reminds me as a kid building homemade go cart out of bed frame, old reel lawnmower and other stuff we got out of the dump, but yours is way more advanced! fun either way, Try mounting some old snowmobile skis under the rear wheels for snow use ,it will pivot with the wheel and distribute the rear weight better, thus riding on top of the snow, and not digging into it and a wider tire for soft ground Fun stuff here!
You could add a longer starter rope and move the pull start handle up onto the handlebars like push mowers have. That way you can start it from the seat maybe.
Its a unique ride. But in the winter, I would replace the back tires with skis. It might give less resistance and give more speed in snow. Thx for sharing.
Pretty cool, Taryl! I think you need to get an old motorcycle helmet and paint it some cool color scheme with maybe a small Taryl Fixes All logo on a small flag mounted on top. Or maybe a ChrisFix drifting-style helmet painted up. Then paint or vinyl wrap the machine and sulky to match!
I don't think those tracks are designed for 25 mph, or long distance travel. If he throws a track at full speed he might really need a helmet on top of his wig!!!!
That's pretty 👍 pretty dang gone awesome!👀🕵️. Look👀 forward every Sunday morning watching🤳 🕵️ your 📽️videos You come up with some good awesome stuff You build 🤔
I had a landscaping buggy with tracks that I used to work on irrigation center pivot systems. It was 28" wide and would just fit down 30" rows. It sure beat carrying a gearbox or tire into a broken pivot in the middle of a corn field. The beach groomer machine reminded me of the pivot buggy. I am kind of surprised the snow blower tracks hold together at 25 mph, but I guess I got to, since I seen it with my own eyes (stolen from VGG)

The thickness of track actually extends the circumference of the drive wheel so your wheel size is much larger.

I would consider adding an internal shaft to the seat pedestal tube with a spring so your seat has some suspension to save on the back a little.
