He is by far the most realistic of the protagonists (aside from the hair, that shit ain't normal) He starts off as bad at dueling, and ends up becoming a good duelist in the end

This is the First Yu-Gi-Oh! Series to introduce me to the franchise, this song was very inspiring to me as a kid and even now. It thrills me to try even harder in life and live to the fullest.
As someone who grew up on the original series I can say that Yuma is the best protagonist since he actively grew as a duelist while Astral was acting like a teacher to him. Yugi had Atem fight his duels most of the time and he was already really good along with Jaden and Yusei. Yuma became skilled the more he dueled and you could tell he relied on Astral less and less as the series went on
Actually for atem it was more yugi giving atem ideas in the duel since, anytime we hear their thoughts it was always Yugi voice and they made a point about separating the two in these instances.
Well it’s confirmed: Only Judai has “normal” hair 😂. I mean sure, it’s not normal normal cuz it looks like a Kuriboh. But compared to every other protagonists, he has the most normal hair out of them all. At least it’s only 1 color instead of 3 or 4 different colors

I like Yuma. He started out sucking ass at dueling, but as ZEXAL and ZEXAL II went on we saw him grow and learn, he went from probably the weakest duelist in the series to defeating the monster known as Don Thousand and Number iC100000, which could not be destroyed by card effects, had 100,000 attack, AND had an instant win condition! We saw Yuma grow to become an amazing duelist, unlike with the other protagonists who had their skill handed to them, whether it being an ancient pharaoh, beating your teacher with them using their best deck on examination day, or being Yusei. Astral taught him and never really took over later on, letting Yuma do duels on his own. Yuma went from one of the weakest duelists in the series to one of the best, and we got to see him make it all the way
@@JevvyMedia problem.... yuma can only use that ability on his own in the duel vs alephus (that etheric amon guy) and vs astral (after yuma's WHOLE growth ark finaly came full circle during the final duel to bring about a new future that wasnt really in astrals calculations till after the future number 0 was made) and outside of these 2 instances he needed to be fully bonded with astral in the zexal forms to use shining draw
I love it how people say yuma wouldnt have won without astral but no one is giving yugi shit for having the Pharoah fight all of his battles like im pretty sure without the pharoah kaiba would be the king of games.
Did you know that yugi defeated the pharaoh in the last three episodes. Yugi is so good in dueling and if you don't believe me go check some of his duels. For yuma he almost lost some duels if astral didn't appear in time , check yuma vs nistro and dextra , yuma drew 2 spells and didn't know how to use them and almost gave up but when astral appeared he played both spells and win. Yuma is nothing without astral and that's because he's so young unlike yugi who was an adult.
This is the Yugioh generation that got me INTO yugioh. I love how well the OP represents Yuma. Everyone thought that he was a loser, and that he would never amount to anything. But with time he grew to be an outstanding dualist. He has truely high fived the sky.
I really like how Yuma's ideas were reflected in his monster, Utopia. Utopia means a "perfect world". Yuma's idea of a perfect world is one where everyone could be friends. Hence, why he always wants to make friends, not enemies. He wanted to completely resolve a three-way war by making everyone friends. God, so much thought went into making this season. This season was a hidden gem of allegories XD
Yuma is a unique protagonist at this point in the series. Everyone before him started off as experienced or an ace of their profession. Yusei was a freedom fighter, Judai took down Crowley during the entrance exam, and Yugi/Atem swept through most obstacles. Having Yuma be introduced at the bottom of the ladder slowly rise to the top is a good way of showing his growth. I know he’s not a unique trope even Arc V seemingly building off the basis for Yuma, but Zexal was a step in the right direction for the franchise.

Man I was 8 when I stumbled upon Zexal when it aired on Pop, I knew it was a Yu Gi Oh series so I thought I would get bored, but man it rocks hard for a spin off series. Whenever I heard 'Take A Chance' or 'Halfway to Forever' it made me want to cry even with the JP theme songs, and I still don't understand the hate that most people show when it comes to Zexal. Other than that, thank you for bringing back the part of my childhood that I loved.
my zexal journey was exactly the same 2014 it was on POP and at first i thought its just the same as the other yugioh when they started promoting it prior to airing it then one day there was literally nothing on early morning and zexal was on i actually loved it the song was a banger and astral and yumas bickering and then shark just drawn my interest even further
Yuma tsukamo has been inspiring me ever since 5th grade when i first started watching yugioh zexal and he keeps inspiring me every day since. Throwback to the simple days, when I could wake up early before my parents, turn on the tv in the living room, and watch shows like Yu Gi Oh, Dragon Ball Z, and Naruto.
Am I the only one who just gets taken back to when they were a kid and watching it on Netflix. You would sit in the lounge/living room, with your breakfast bowl in one hand and the remote in the other. You ready it up. You turn on the TV. And then you hear it. "Take a chance-" OK, LET'S DO THIS!!!
Just remembering waking up on Saturday at 8 AM just watching this on Vortexx on the CW and great other shows eating cereal or pop tarts and start singing the opening as loud as I can. *sigh* Childhood Memories.
I'd just like to take a few moments to say why I think ZEXAL is the best Yu-Gi-Oh! series to date. 1) This song. Enough said. 2) Yuma is an ordinary duelist. All the other protagonists started off immediately being the best duelists in the world: Yugi beat the world champion in the *first episode*; Jaden out-dueled one of his teachers in his entrance exam; and Yusei beat Jack Atlas in Episode 5. Yuma starts off as just some kid dueling for fun but with no idea how to be the best. With Astral guiding him, he works on his technique and gradually learns how to succeed. He's the first Yu-Gi-Oh! protagonist to become King of Games through hard work, instead of through magically innate talent. 3) The Number Cards. They're just a really cool concept. Giving the antagonist-of-the-week a Number Card is a great way to turn an ordinarily boring filler episode into something enjoyable, and also to give a tantalizing tease of the backstory through Astral's newest recovered memory. They also manage to help give the series a single consecutive story arc, something the original series kind of attempted but ultimately failed at. (Bonus points for Xyz Summoning just being cool as hell in the anime.) 4) Yuma actually gets the girl. That's just something that bugged me with the other series: none of the romance plots went anywhere. Yugi's relationship with Téa didn't get any farther than the innuendo stage. Jaden and Alexis didn't even get that far. And as for Yusei and Akiza, Ra only knows what happened there. I'm not a big romance guy and if a series doesn't want to have a romantic aspect that's just fine, but if you introduce characters purely to be the love interest, *have it go somewhere, guys!* 5) It's a combination of everything that worked about the previous shows all in one. It manages to have the overarching narrative of DM (except, as mentioned, done better), the more light-hearted tone of GX (while still managing to get serious when it needed to), and the updated graphics of 5Ds (except able to run with them). It's the essence of what made each series good. 6) It's the one that's going to come true, at least from a technological standpoint. I have a pretty huge suspension of disbelief, but I had to admit that the technology from previous seasons was pretty silly, especially in GX where I constantly found myself saying things like "Okay, that hologram just straight-up punched a guy". In this series they at least kind of have an excuse thanks to the whole AR mechanic. And the best part about the Duel Gazers: not only is the technology possible, _it exists right now_ in the form of the HoloLens. I am confident that within 20 years, Konami will be selling legitimate ZEXAL-style dueling technology, or at the very least setting up AR hologram arenas for official tournaments. I freely admit that the series is not perfect; the catch phrase is easily the worst to date, and ZEXAL is probably the series where the hair officially went out of control. But the series is a whole damn lot better than most people give it credit for.
I for one COMPLETELY agree with you! The ZEXAL series had a lot of thought put into it, and yet fans give it loads of crap JUST because it doesn't follow the "original" formula. But when you actually THINK about it, it wouldn't be much of a "new" and creative" series if it just followed the same antics and idea of older series. ZEXAL is just one of those series that you really have to think about deeply instead of getting butt hurt over it only because the developers wanted to try something completely new for the sake of what some people were asking for. I'm not gonna lie, this series (like you said) is definitely NOT for everyone, and I do think that it's far from the GREATEST series...but still, it IS a good series if you have the willingness to try and understand it better. That is all, and goodnight....
Christoph TSS Thank you so much for this. Honestly Zexal is the most under-rated YGO anime. People only watched a few episodes and rage quit it. they needed to give it a better chance. I mean Yuma is the reason this is the most real anime we got to date, HAX levels aside (cause Yuma did cheat once in the final Duel, all other instances of Shining Draw had Astral's involvement irrc), so he cheated less than Yugi, grew more postively than Jayden, and actually was cabaple of losing (my biggest gripe with 5D's was that Yuseichrist NEVER LOST). Plus Vector. You have to love Vector as a villian he was the best we got. My only faults are again HAX level (Zexal had the most HAX in any series, but they made it work well tbh) and well my alternate title for it: *Yu-Gi-Oh!: Shark Gets Trolled* cause that was like 90% of the plot, trolling Shark's character.
Christoph TSS 5D's is the most frustrating when it came to couples, just when you though Akiza and Yusei were going to get together, they simply go no and head their separate ways....seriously, after all that time...I think Jaden rejects Alexis at the end of GX, while Yugi and Tea are simply lost in the void, fate unknown. Nice to see some appreciation for it, actually watched it all and I was pleasantly surprised but I'd have to say Zexal II (Barian Emperors, enough said) is where it is at and by the final stretch of episodes 90% of the cast has been killed off and it pulls at the heartstrings more than one think it would. Plus how could you dislike Shark...he must have the most awkward and ironic fate of any YGO character ever (so far) and Vector may be one of the most notable antagonists to date. What I find funny is that Yuuya is taking Yuma's belief that extra step further and because a majority skipped Zexal they have no clue. Dueling is for friends and fun not revenge or deciding the fate of worlds. Yuma may be an idiot but he has his moments, he questions loads of times why he can't duel for fun and why is it that his duels always seem to have something major on the line. But I'd agree the biggest fault with Zexal, is the Xyz monsters, so ridiculously over powered and broken, that it didn't really feel we got any good duelists in the series and it only continues to get more broken as the series goes on, not to mention draw and create any card you want...
Zexal holds a special place in my heart, before my life became hell, I had this and that's all I needed. Yugioh is good for the soul and its a shame that 4kids couldn't hold on to their Saturday morning block.

On Crunchhyroll.and Funimation, Hulu, (I don't watch it on the other ones) have ads which slow down the experience. I see Shark like Kaiba back in the original Yu-gi-oh series, 1: Loses to main character on first episode 2:Out of commission for a while 3:Learns some kind of lesson and then try's to help said character who defeated him

Like many of you guys I never knew Kazuki Takahashi but like many people he made my childhood and even my adulthood people think I'm joking when I tell them yugioh has taught me so many life lessons even at 25 when I first saw zexal I just loved it and I do therapy and we've had countless sessions just talking about yugioh and how I wanted to be just like Jaden and yuma but I identify as shark or chazz even syrus I did a fitness challenge and I built a yugioh deck atk points for pushups defense points for sit ups my last challenge wasn't going well so of all things I watched zexal kites plight part 1 & 2 as well as sibling rivalry from GX and from there everything was okay and I got the strength to continue I remember going into therapy when I first started and pharaoh atem said to kaiba after he beat him in battle City he said you'll never be successful until you conquer the monsters in your heart watching the waking the dragons season even though it's filler and taking from it that nothing good comes from giving into your hatred or rage and even if you win (mai valentine) you'll still lose Thank you for the memories thank you for the life lessons thank you for the free therapy sessions you were great

6th grade me grew up on this song loving yugioh and the lessons it taught...... Third year college me may not play yugioh anymore but this song still has a special place in my heart and this has become my daily anthem lol
This was my first experience Yu Gi Oh when it was first airing and I’m happy to say that experience greatly shaped my view on this franchise and I don’t regret it at all.
man when i was a kid and heard this op in tv, in my language, it was one of the only time i would stop doing what i was doing and actually sing the entire thing. and the ep were so interesting when i was little, and it introduced yugioh to me and my friends. now im not even in touch anymore with them but dueling with our random pile of 40 cards that we found in packs is still one of the happiest memory i have.

This series means so much to me, it marked my childhood with so many awesome characters, such a lovely protagonist that I even admire, and gosh the duels would almost always be so hype, the best Yu-Gi-Oh series for me !!
I love Yugioh Zexal for three main reasons: 1. It's the first Yugioh "series" I'd ever seen. 2. Even though it's dark (like all the series) with the Barians, it still contains a bit of light-heartedness and humor throughout the seasons. 3. Unlike the other series, the main protagonist started off as an amateur, slowly growing into the wise, powerful, and well-developed character they are now. I love Yugioh Zexal as well as the alternative versions! Always take a chance, believe even through your darkest days, and never give up. Keep on trying to high-five the sky!
I've only seen Zexal once but I used to hate this opening but now after being away from Yu-Gi-Oh for so long and re-listening to this it sounds like the perfect song for a Yu-Gi-Oh series
Zexal was the series that was airing when I was younger I did watch 5ds, Gx on dvds before that but I got say out every protagonist I resonate with Yuma the most and I’m not ashamed of it

Yugi had Atem fight his duels most of the time and he was already really good along with Jaden and Yusei. Yuma became skilled the more he dueled and you could tell he relied on Astral less and less as the series went on
Until Zexal Morph Came along but even then He Relied on his Pure Skill
Actually for atem it was more yugi giving atem ideas in the duel since, anytime we hear their thoughts it was always Yugi voice and they made a point about separating the two in these instances.

I like Yuma. He started out sucking ass at dueling, but as ZEXAL and ZEXAL II went on we saw him grow and learn, he went from probably the weakest duelist in the series to defeating the monster known as Don Thousand and Number iC100000, which could not be destroyed by card effects, had 100,000 attack, AND had an instant win condition! We saw Yuma grow to become an amazing duelist, unlike with the other protagonists who had their skill handed to them, whether it being an ancient pharaoh, beating your teacher with them using their best deck on examination day, or being Yusei. Astral taught him and never really took over later on, letting Yuma do duels on his own. Yuma went from one of the weakest duelists in the series to one of the best, and we got to see him make it all the way

Yuma is a unique protagonist at this point in the series. Everyone before him started off as experienced or an ace of their profession. Yusei was a freedom fighter, Judai took down Crowley during the entrance exam, and Yugi/Atem swept through most obstacles.
Having Yuma be introduced at the bottom of the ladder slowly rise to the top is a good way of showing his growth. I know he’s not a unique trope even Arc V seemingly building off the basis for Yuma, but Zexal was a step in the right direction for the franchise.

Man I was 8 when I stumbled upon Zexal when it aired on Pop, I knew it was a Yu Gi Oh series so I thought I would get bored, but man it rocks hard for a spin off series. Whenever I heard 'Take A Chance' or 'Halfway to Forever' it made me want to cry even with the JP theme songs, and I still don't understand the hate that most people show when it comes to Zexal. Other than that, thank you for bringing back the part of my childhood that I loved.

I'd just like to take a few moments to say why I think ZEXAL is the best Yu-Gi-Oh! series to date.
1) This song. Enough said.
2) Yuma is an ordinary duelist. All the other protagonists started off immediately being the best duelists in the world: Yugi beat the world champion in the *first episode*; Jaden out-dueled one of his teachers in his entrance exam; and Yusei beat Jack Atlas in Episode 5. Yuma starts off as just some kid dueling for fun but with no idea how to be the best. With Astral guiding him, he works on his technique and gradually learns how to succeed. He's the first Yu-Gi-Oh! protagonist to become King of Games through hard work, instead of through magically innate talent.
3) The Number Cards. They're just a really cool concept. Giving the antagonist-of-the-week a Number Card is a great way to turn an ordinarily boring filler episode into something enjoyable, and also to give a tantalizing tease of the backstory through Astral's newest recovered memory. They also manage to help give the series a single consecutive story arc, something the original series kind of attempted but ultimately failed at. (Bonus points for Xyz Summoning just being cool as hell in the anime.)
4) Yuma actually gets the girl. That's just something that bugged me with the other series: none of the romance plots went anywhere. Yugi's relationship with Téa didn't get any farther than the innuendo stage. Jaden and Alexis didn't even get that far. And as for Yusei and Akiza, Ra only knows what happened there. I'm not a big romance guy and if a series doesn't want to have a romantic aspect that's just fine, but if you introduce characters purely to be the love interest, *have it go somewhere, guys!*
5) It's a combination of everything that worked about the previous shows all in one. It manages to have the overarching narrative of DM (except, as mentioned, done better), the more light-hearted tone of GX (while still managing to get serious when it needed to), and the updated graphics of 5Ds (except able to run with them). It's the essence of what made each series good.
6) It's the one that's going to come true, at least from a technological standpoint. I have a pretty huge suspension of disbelief, but I had to admit that the technology from previous seasons was pretty silly, especially in GX where I constantly found myself saying things like "Okay, that hologram just straight-up punched a guy". In this series they at least kind of have an excuse thanks to the whole AR mechanic. And the best part about the Duel Gazers: not only is the technology possible, _it exists right now_ in the form of the HoloLens. I am confident that within 20 years, Konami will be selling legitimate ZEXAL-style dueling technology, or at the very least setting up AR hologram arenas for official tournaments.
I freely admit that the series is not perfect; the catch phrase is easily the worst to date, and ZEXAL is probably the series where the hair officially went out of control. But the series is a whole damn lot better than most people give it credit for.
I for one COMPLETELY agree with you! The ZEXAL series had a lot of thought put into it, and yet fans give it loads of crap JUST because it doesn't follow the "original" formula. But when you actually THINK about it, it wouldn't be much of a "new" and creative" series if it just followed the same antics and idea of older series. ZEXAL is just one of those series that you really have to think about deeply instead of getting butt hurt over it only because the developers wanted to try something completely new for the sake of what some people were asking for.
I'm not gonna lie, this series (like you said) is definitely NOT for everyone, and I do think that it's far from the GREATEST series...but still, it IS a good series if you have the willingness to try and understand it better.

People only watched a few episodes and rage quit it. they needed to give it a better chance.
I mean Yuma is the reason this is the most real anime we got to date, HAX levels aside (cause Yuma did cheat once in the final Duel, all other instances of Shining Draw had Astral's involvement irrc), so he cheated less than Yugi, grew more postively than Jayden, and actually was cabaple of losing (my biggest gripe with 5D's was that Yuseichrist NEVER LOST).
Plus Vector. You have to love Vector as a villian he was the best we got.
My only faults are again HAX level (Zexal had the most HAX in any series, but they made it work well tbh) and well my alternate title for it: *Yu-Gi-Oh!: Shark Gets Trolled* cause that was like 90% of the plot, trolling Shark's character.
Christoph TSS 5D's is the most frustrating when it came to couples, just when you though Akiza and Yusei were going to get together, they simply go no and head their separate ways....seriously, after all that time...I think Jaden rejects Alexis at the end of GX, while Yugi and Tea are simply lost in the void, fate unknown.
Nice to see some appreciation for it, actually watched it all and I was pleasantly surprised but I'd have to say Zexal II (Barian Emperors, enough said) is where it is at and by the final stretch of episodes 90% of the cast has been killed off and it pulls at the heartstrings more than one think it would.
Plus how could you dislike Shark...he must have the most awkward and ironic fate of any YGO character ever (so far) and Vector may be one of the most notable antagonists to date.
What I find funny is that Yuuya is taking Yuma's belief that extra step further and because a majority skipped Zexal they have no clue. Dueling is for friends and fun not revenge or deciding the fate of worlds. Yuma may be an idiot but he has his moments, he questions loads of times why he can't duel for fun and why is it that his duels always seem to have something major on the line.
But I'd agree the biggest fault with Zexal, is the Xyz monsters, so ridiculously over powered and broken, that it didn't really feel we got any good duelists in the series and it only continues to get more broken as the series goes on, not to mention draw and create any card you want...

I’m boutta re watch this whole series…mainly because I wasn’t able to finish it back when I was younger.
Like many of you guys I never knew Kazuki Takahashi but like many people he made my childhood and even my adulthood people think I'm joking when I tell them yugioh has taught me so many life lessons even at 25 when I first saw zexal I just loved it and I do therapy and we've had countless sessions just talking about yugioh and how I wanted to be just like Jaden and yuma but I identify as shark or chazz even syrus I did a fitness challenge and I built a yugioh deck atk points for pushups defense points for sit ups my last challenge wasn't going well so of all things I watched zexal kites plight part 1 & 2 as well as sibling rivalry from GX and from there everything was okay and I got the strength to continue I remember going into therapy when I first started and pharaoh atem said to kaiba after he beat him in battle City he said you'll never be successful until you conquer the monsters in your heart watching the waking the dragons season even though it's filler and taking from it that nothing good comes from giving into your hatred or rage and even if you win (mai valentine) you'll still lose Thank you for the memories thank you for the life lessons thank you for the free therapy sessions you were great

This series means so much to me, it marked my childhood with so many awesome characters, such a lovely protagonist that I even admire, and gosh the duels would almost always be so hype, the best Yu-Gi-Oh series for me !!

I love Yugioh Zexal for three main reasons:
1. It's the first Yugioh "series" I'd ever seen.
2. Even though it's dark (like all the series) with the Barians, it still contains a bit of light-heartedness and humor throughout the seasons.
3. Unlike the other series, the main protagonist started off as an amateur, slowly growing into the wise, powerful, and well-developed character they are now.
I love Yugioh Zexal as well as the alternative versions!
Always take a chance, believe even through your darkest days, and never give up. Keep on trying to high-five the sky!
Good points , I like Yuma his funny but Yusei is number 1, and I'm obsessed with the opening
You gotta admit, the animation for Zexal was something else.

I've only seen Zexal once but I used to hate this opening but now after being away from Yu-Gi-Oh for so long and re-listening to this it sounds like the perfect song for a Yu-Gi-Oh series

Zexal was the series that was airing when I was younger I did watch 5ds, Gx on dvds before that but I got say out every protagonist I resonate with Yuma the most and I’m not ashamed of it
