I think one of the aspects that sets Yngwie apart from other shredders at his time is how clean his tone was. The glassy clean tone at the beginning is gorgeous and you can still hear the natural overdriven amp when he dials up the gain and begins to shred. Too many shreadders rely on heavy distortion from effect pedals which completely hides little mistakes they may make as well as the natural tone of the amplifier.
He plays like that on acoustic, too. It's not just the electric setup. It's in his hands and technique. Granted a scalloped fretboard helps immensely, but he plays by ear and has a strong classical backing in his family. Makes all the difference in the world.
@@williamkidwell1504I believe your observation was spot on. But what I meant was the way he can "play the amp", as sometimes they say, so it's not really applicable to acoustic guitars. To elaborate, certain guitarists like Yngwie rely more on input dynamics to draw the natural overdriven tone from a tube amplifier instead of adding a lot of distortion before the preamp stage using effect pedals. Because the latter way tends to make shredding easier by hiding little mistakes (and the natural tone of the amplifier), many guitarists known for fast technical solos prefer such kind of sound.
