    I think the A229 plus is going to be my first dash cam venture. Will wait for your full review before purchasing. I was originally looking at the a119 mini v2, but now decided i want 2 channel. The price difference at the time of writing is marginal on A119 v A229 2ch set ups, so makes sense to go for the higher res and newer sensors. Great reviews by the way, really helped a newbie out and fully got me up to speed with various models, features and what exactly i did and didn't want from my dash cam.

    • @leo-ub6nb
      @leo-ub6nb 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      At the minimum, you’d want 2ch. I highly recommend it over a single channel. Sure, cable management can be a hassle for some, but it’s really not that hard to hide the cable(s) within the headliner and plastic trims. Some cars do better than others, with cable management, but it’s possible with enough effort. I’ve done a few cars/trucks (not professionally, just for friends/family).
      One tip is to bring all the remaining slack towards a trim piece that has a decent amount of space behind it, so you can wind up/bunch up the cable(s) with a zip tie/velcro strap. This way, the very small amount of cable that will be exposed (coming down from the headliner for example) will be a clean line.
      I’ve seen people try and stuff the remaining cable right where the camera is at and it either; never stays tucked, looks crappy, or both.
      I haven’t had to use my dashcam for any incidents (yet), but when I didn’t have one, someone hit my parked car and I had nothing to go off of. Don’t put it off much longer, if you still haven’t purchased one. Better to have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it.

    If the 2k camera performs better at night they should release an update to allow the 4k camera to switch over to 2k recording when it gets dark, that would be a good reason to buy it

    I almost bought the A139 Pro but held off as I was waiting for a new ute that was on order to arrive - New Ute, new Dashcam. Now the A229 Pro has been released which is far better due to the upgrade in for video quality of the rear camera. I'll be making a purchase very soon for the 2 channel version, I'm not bothered with the internal camera. I'm pleased I waited.

    I suspect the next upgrade wherever that will be will be an improvement in video quality for all 3 channels when the interior camera is added to the system.

    These dashcams are so good now, how else could they do to improve them?

    Great review as always! Until you will finish the detailed review for the A229 Pro I hope you will receive also the telephoto lens, and why not, to compare it with another dashcam you have which also has a telephoto lens. I consider the telephoto lens is a must for american drivers.
    I think the rear camera cable is USB just because Viofo wanted to make very small modifications to the case and PCB of A229. Another reason is because the technology of the NT98529 (also known as NT96580 to differentiate from NT98528 used on A229 Plus) chipset used in A229 Pro and Plus which demanded an USB transfer and not coaxial transfer.
    The biggest and most important difference between A229 Plus and A229 is the HDR. For me, right now, dashcams are two types: with HDR and without HDR. I would never buy a non-HDR camera starting from 2022. No HDR, no exists for me. European car license plates deserve a HDR recognition at night. Maybe Americans will start to be lucky as the Wuropeans with the telephoto lenses from dashcams.
    In future detailed video do not forget to say that the A229 Pro CMOS is bigger than A229 Plus CMOS and in this way the 2K theoretical advantage during low light conditions is lost against a bigger CMOS with a better sensitivity (picture quality at low illumination).
    Just think that IMX335 from A229 has the SNR1s (lx) *2 value as 0.59 and the IMX675 from A229 Plus has 0.3 and both of them has the same size: 1/2.8. So the Starvis 2 doubled the sensitivity using same size of CMOS. Going further to IMX678 from A229 Pro you will expect that because of higher 4K resolution compared to the 2K resolution that sensitivity to be worse on the 4K CMOS. But is not! The official Sony data is showing the IMX678 SNR1s (lx) *2 value to be 0.29. Even with 0.01 better than the IMX675. This was possible only because the IMX678 is 1/1.8 size.
    Now add this gain to more pixels and the result will be more details during day and night.
    But all these are official Sony data and if you will mount the A229 Plus and A229 Pro exactly at the same level and exactly the same lens angle, you will show us how are those specifications in real life. The camera position is very important in such test.

    Hello, I recently purchased this camera but I'm having trouble finding information about whether I can disable the motion detection during parking mode. The reason I need to know this is because I live in a duplex and have a ton of people going back and forth in the carport area .And I don't want my camera to pick that up. I know some cameras allowed just impact alerts but I'm not sure if this particular camera has that feature or not. This is ultimately going to decide whether or not I want to keep this camera or get something else as I'm planning on hardwiring my camera to the car.
    Thank you!

    Great video, thank you. There are some questions that I could not find answers for myself. Does the camera A229 Plus has internal battery? How big it is or how long it can record video using battery? I am looking for a dashcam for my MB C T-model using 2 cameras: front and rear camera. I before I buy, I would like to set up an action plan how to install it so that as less cables are visible as possible.
    Ideally I would like to have device that is somewhere in the car - in the trunk / boot of the car and it has 2 external small cameras (like those for rear / interior recording) so that I have small camera and tiny cable and whole equipment is in the back of the car. I can control it via smartphone. I looked for something similar that I have described, but could not find. Found just one, but its for the motorbike.

    I sure like the Garmin Magnetic mounting system in preference to the sticky adhesive mounting system current being used by Viofa products.
    I JUST NOW realized I can epoxy a magnet to the windshield & epoxy a similar shaped piece of metal on the base of any dashcam then throw out the sticky tape or suction cups.
    Also, I'll most likely continue to use my Garmin OBD power cord to provide power to the 229Pro 24/7 instead of fooling around with the Viofa's hard-wire power cord.

      If you want the camera to record at least 10 hrs every night, it is better to choose a 512GB card. We suggest buying a Sandisk Max Endurance card or our VIOFO card. According to the feedback from our customers, Sandisk Extreme cards are not stable when used with 4K cameras.

      @@VortexRadar aw. I guess circular polarizers are really the way to go then in that case. I was reviewing someone else's dashcam footage (not sure what cam they used) but noticed the license plates weren't very clear at night. I've also reviewed another friend's old footage (Viofo A119) and it had a similar issue. These dashcam sensors remind me of my old DJI osmo pocket with the kind of quality they offer so i really hope to see better picture quality with low-light scenarios... I mean... besides knowing someone dinged you while driving, what's the point of a dashcam if you can't get the license plate?
      I read another comment elsewhere and they said when you get dinged, chase them and read out their license plate while on recording.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      CPLs are helpful for cutting out reflections and glare, but they’re mostly helpful for daytime. They also block around two stops of light and so, just like wearing sunglasses at night, it’s harder for a dashcam to see at night when a CPL is in place. The dashcam has to compensate with higher ISO’s for more noise and/or slower shutter speeds with more motion blur.
      Capturing plates is a challenging thing. I’ve done a deep dive on the topic here: th-cam.com/video/SowUTOrhzOg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JTcc7T9FU0O8AO6_

    Video I'd like to see. Take four A229 Pro's and compare the videos at the low / normal / high / maximum bitrates. You never say what bitrates the dash cams are set for when comparing video quality. The A229 Pro defaults to "normal". The "maximum" will make larger files (with a 512 GB card...) but should be better for sharper motion (and zooming?) and HDR benefits from higher bitrates (I think).

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you need an external microphone for vlogs or something, sure. Personally I'd lean towards having higher resolution for the rear cam, an upgraded interior cam, voice commands, and an LCD to adjust the camera angles. You can always add an extra lav mic and sync the audio in post if that's important to you. The audio quality isn't bad with the factory mics. It just gives you an option to move the mic closer to wherever you need, maybe in the back of the car or something, and then sync it all in-camera. I'm not sure what being a driving enthusiast has to do with audio quality so I'm kinda confused by what you mean, but either way if you want an audio jack at the expense of everything else, well you've got the option.
