- In this video I spend a day on a canal Narrow boat with the youtubers Foxes Afloat. This video is a collaboration with Foxes Afloat. We travel down the Huddersfield Narrow Canal from the town of Mossley in the east of Manchester. I get to have a go at the Canal Locks and operate the Canal Locks. We see how the Canal Locks work. We go through the Canal Tunnel Scouthead tunnel. We also get a tour around the Narrow Boat and find out what life on British waterways is like. We take in some lovely British Countryside as we cruise down the canal. Often referred to as The cut The British Canal system is now thriving and navigable. So see daily life on the waterways in this video

I am a follower of both You Tube channels. I was completely thrilled to see this collaboration. I enjoyed seeing how Foxes Afloat were so somber when interviewed by a third party, Martin. Martin's interest and enthusiasm for the Foxes' live aboard lifestyle was very enjoyable.
I wonder how many culverts Martin saw and how many times he was like "I gotta go in there..."

That's crazy! I was watching the "Foxes Afloat" video this morning, and as soon as they said they were near Manchester I thought along the lines of "Oooh I wonder if they could meet up with Martin Zero". Couple of minutes later there you are operating the locks. Great. While I'm posting, thanks for the River Medlock posts. I have been watching them all. Too much heritage gets swept away so your research & documentation helps us appreciate the hidden side (some of it lost) of oue history.

Great to see you on a narrow boat on the canals as i have watched you a lot on canal history etc. Also the boat that you passed (constanza) are also youtubers they are "floating our boat" and many more stories there. So you've seen the plug in the canal,(that was a good one) many railway tunnels and buildings and now you've been on the water. Great!!
I lived in London for a couple of years and the canals really fascinated me, we only have irrigation canals here in Australia. It blew my mind when I found out that some of them there go over bridges (viaducts) and through tunnels.

One of my most fondest memories of holidays as a kid was a weeks canal boat holiday. I was around 14 years old and now 46 but can confidently say it's one of the best holidays I've ever had. We navigated the Warwickshire Ring. Amazing. Alot of locks though, think around 100 which included the Hatton Flight which if I am correct is 21 locks in a row. Would recommend this type of holiday to everyone.

hey martin -i have been following cruising the cut and enjoying the narration and countryside. I will be subscribing to the 'foxes' channel asap.
Have enjoyed a couple of narrow boat holidays, really enjoyed them. After a couple of days life just slows right down . On the first holiday in the 70s I went with teaching colleagues on a recce for taking school groups. One evening we moored up by a pub, it was Autumn half term and of course it was dark. As we all got ready to get off the boat ,the first opened the hatch part way down the boat and before we could stop her she stepped off and plunged into the canal. She obvs had got confused which side land was on. She was ok ....eventually but we were a bit more careful after that. Thanks Foxes afloat I'll subscribe 👍thanks Martin 👍

That is really cool. It's like a floating motor home. The tunnel was really neat. Appears that it has collapsed a time or 2 and was repaired.

I've been following Foxes for ages.
I've been following Sean and Colin for a few months; Martin for a few months longer. Lovely video - nice to hear Martin seems to have followed them for a while. Plus nice to see Sean and Colin in 'non-vlog' mode and just being two guys on a narrow boat rather than two guys in a vllog on a narrow boat which is subtly different.
Ha ! Great ! .... nice to see the Cuts being used and maintained for future generations, not filled wi crap. Sadly the stretch from Gorton to Stockport was filled in, in the 60's tragic.

The foxes have one of the most beautiful boats on the canal... it was great to see you guys collab... love both channels so much... we don’t have canals where I am in Nova Scotia, Canada... we did once upon a time... but not at all like England... so I find the canal boats so interesting. And as I’ve commented on your channel before, we don’t have the kind of history that you’re out exploring! Our history, if you don’t count our First Nations people, really only goes back 100-150 years... that’s why your channel is so fascinating... it’s unheard of here to have buildings and canals etc that are 200, 300, or more years old! I find it amazing to watch you explore.

Wow, that is a nicely fitted out boat. Even got a bow thruster! They even get a better internet connection than i do with my land line internet. Lovely how you can be so close to a city yet be in such quiet surroundings, wonderful.

I once did a trip on a horse drawn narrow boat in Devon. So simple and serene but I did like all the tech stuff you showed us on this boat.
