If don’t want to be accidentally run over by your tractor when starting, get a new starter switch which keeps it from starting in gear which when standing in front of one of the rear wheels could run over you on start up, bad deal, that’s why ford tractors that model had that safety feature!
At least you picked a small money pit to work on. Sometimes very interesting and great fun.
