Not disagreeing, necessarily, but my personal experience is that they don't even know what a boundary is. They conflate 'boundary' with 'ultimatum', and it is only okay if they are the ones doling those out (before almost immediately acting in a similar manner that led to their ultimatum in the first place). Essentially: I don't think that they have boundaries, and they don't allow anyone else to have them either.

hey, this floored me! I've been struggling with the possibility that my own brother is a Narc and it was very difficult n upsetting to see the signs in him but I didn't want to believe it. The final straw was that I put up boundaries on how we would communicate going forward because I started noticing the abuse he was doing to me. I haven't heard from him since and he's bad mouthed me to 1 half of my family, including my dad who's 82!

Same here! I’m actually a Republican (in the actual, rather than American, sense). I’ve never been a monarchist and still find the institution itself problematic in the 21st century. I didn’t really care either way about most royals, but my opinions were more negative than positive. However, Harry and Meghan have made me empathise with the royals enormously, especially the Queen, Philip, Camilla, and, in particular, Charles, William, and Kate. I didn’t like them before, but Harry and Meghan have caused me to have a newfound respect for them. I empathise with the pain they must feel, and feel less negative about their own wrongdoings now that I have realised just how much worse things could have been. Harry and Meghan certainly have helped the monarchy - but not in the way they thought that they could.

Me too. I’m American & was morally opposed to the monarchy, but now I’m pro British Royal family. I can truly see how important it is to have consistency & someone to carry on the values of a culture; I think that became even more crystal clear after the Queen’s death. I was shocked at how sad I was at losing her. In comparison to the trashy H&M, it really seemed like her death was the end of so many values, civility, & even sincere, public practice of Christianity seemed to die with Her Majesty. I had the same type of feeling when Pope John Paul II died even though I’m not Catholic. The Western world has gone to hell even more since the Popes death.

I was friends with a narcissist and what you say is so true, the best thing to do is to ghost a narcissist, which is very hard to do when you're a good person. Ghosting feels bad to a good person but you can't let people continue to abuse you just because the other person tells you that they need to continue to abuse you in order for them to feel happy. Does that sound like someone who actually cares for you?
Narcissists are only happy when they are controlling someone. If you don’t want that you need to move away from them. I once dated a narcissist and didn’t even realise till many years later. I ghosted him in the end and that was the only way. They are very selfish and don’t care about anyone but themselves. They also act like everything is your fault. Good decision on your part to cut lose your former friend.
Sorry to hear you went through that. I told a narcissist why I was cutting them out of my life, so it wasn't technically ghosting. But since they literally can't absorb anything that conflicts with their narrative, it must have seemed to them like I vanished in a puff of smoke. 🤷
My mother. She was becoming so much more critical, cruel & horrible to me, that I completely ghosted her for 8 months. Then, Xmas was coming. My poor introvert Dad begged me to come home for Xmas. I did it to please him, but had to tolerate the subversive crap from my mother while I was there.

You make a good really point about oversharing and trying to paint it as a mental health PSA. I'll admit that I'm guilty of the same thing, and I'm trying to be better about that. I'm starting to use a term I thought of yesterday - "emotional littering" - which I was initially using to describe the instances where I fail to filter out my generational trauma and thus litter other people's emotional landscape with the negativity I inherited. But I'd also like to use that term for when I just overshare the negative feelings I have with others. I don't want to just dump all that garbage onto someone else's day. Ultimately, it's something that can be very effectively addressed with healthy boundary work. Don't give garbage, don't take garbage.
Agreed. It can be very tempting to release a bunch of stuff to someone else, but when I'm on the other side of it, I always feel weighed down and awkward. i don't want to do something like that to someone else, especially when it doesn't improve the situation
I like that term. I kind of think of it as gossiping (what H&M do definitely is) even if gossiping about yourself, but definitely if it includes generational trauma because then it's essentially gossiping about your family. It can be really hard to see that though when we think we're just talking about ourselves or being self deprecating.

I have been separated from my narcissistic husband now for 6 weeks...its hard, really hard. He has started to just turn up ( I'm still in our family home), and last Friday, I realised why he was doing this.. he needs fuel, and I have been giving to him good, bad, or indifferent. He came last Friday because and I quote, " You didn't answer the phone & I needed to know which account to take money out for diesel for my car." Me " the same account you take it out of every week! Okay you beautiful strong human. First, get a good therapist. It's okay to change to different one if you don't think they are a good fit for your care. Second- he's out of the house, change the locks and refer all his questions to your lawyer. Always. You are not required to answer anything about separating your life from his without your lawyer. It expensive, but worth you safety.
I’m so sorry you’re going through all that. A divorce in itself is hard but to break free from a narcissist is another level of struggle. Sending you lots of positive energy and if you can, get a therapist who can help you navigate all the emotional manipulations he’s going to try put you through.

He put their private encounter in his book without warning her, leaving her open to discovery & public vivisection by the press, but she "violated" his privacy. By her coming forward to tell her version of the story, she took back control - and good for her! Fortunately cooler heads prevailed and he has abandoned his plans to sue her. He's still a putz tho.

Harry is definitely a narcissist and it's about time people realize and accept that. Let's be clear. His wife is revolting. She is a narcissist who is using him. But he is also using her to perpetrate a vile and unjustified revenge against his family. He has always been a narcissist. In his book you can tell by his behavior in his early years (prior to the loss of his mother) and his description of it. The way he treated people and thought of them since a young age is already very disturbing. And there is no wife to blame then. His behavior toward people just worsened over the years and was kept as hidden as possible from the public because the Palace did a spectacular job protecting him. He left, lost his safety net (against which he rebelled constantly) and simply exposed his true colors without filter. The wife is the perfect catalyst to his narcissism because it serves hers, and it is now showing in full force. The thing is, between the two, she is the most powerful narcissist. When he stops being of interest to her (which is closer than most may think), he will be discarded and smeared by her. He will less successfully attempt to do the same to her and things will take a very nasty turn.
Last point of the segment was exactly what I’ve come to learn and what brought me out of years of angry anxiety. I’m so much happier now knowing the truth and power of personal responsibility.

A year ago we started hearing that after the book they plan on making 2023 the year of reconciliation. I thought it was crazy because who plans to attack their family, the values and legacy then start efforts for reconciliation, these are people you’ve hurt and betrayed. Imagine my surprise when suddenly Harry who couldn’t say to Hoda during an interview in 2022 that he missed his brother & father, suddenly wants them back in his life and would even like a role in the monarchy but not only that, he’d also like apology. When I was a teenager I used to get depressed rather a lot and in these periods it would only take the smallest imagined slight to make me sink even further down. Got talking to an older chap one day and asked him him how he dealt with such feelings and his advice was to get off myself. I’ve followed his advice ever since and, although I’ve had (as we all do) some extremely sad or cross times, there’s been virtually no depression.
Agree 100%. Today there is so much focus on "self", and in my view that is contributing to the upswing in mental health issues. That and the cult of looking for offence - or "offence mining" - as I prefer to call it. There is a tendency among the young to think that they're doing a good thing by calling out 'offence' and 'hate speech' or 'micro aggression', but this is training their minds into focusing on negatives which, as psychologist Jonathan Haidt said, is the polar opposite of CBT therapy which, in part, is designed to counter negatives and depression.

And I feel like this silence from the Biebers' end is really getting to Selena and her fans because they haven't stopped bullying the Biebers along with their family and friends.
I think for a lot of us it is natural to withdraw emotionally when we sense our emotions being manipulated. Emotionality really doesn’t contribute as much to civil discourse as people have pretended it does for the last ten years, and I notice myself shutting down emotionally and feeling put upon when I’m demanded to engage in hysterics as part of any conversation. I’ll start calling it the gray rock method but to me it’s just pure sanity in my heart.

I've actually started thinking that Harry is the narcissist in this equation. He has always been a spoiled, entitled, arrogant, jealous, bitter little man - it's all there in his book. The blasé attitude with which he refers to people he killed in conflict. The palace did an amazing job of covering up his real personality. He used meghan as an excuse to do what he's always wanted, she gets the blame for everything and people still feel sorry for him. You could just as easily say that HE has isolated her, from her family and his. All she's got is her kids and the fancy house and she's stuck there with him. And her reputation is destroyed beyond repair. She's infamous.

I think Meghan pulled a lot of negative emotions out of Harry that he was harbouring. Her need for attention and her hatred for her own family gave Harry an outlet and “sympathetic ear” for his own “plights”. It can’t be easy to be the “spare” and have lost his mother so young while living in the spotlight. However, at the end of the day, the Royal Family is his family and his betrayal of them is his own. And seriously Harry, the whole “Heir & Spare” thing doesn’t work in the modern day. You’re 5th in line Harry. You should be grateful for being born into the House of Windsor and you should do better to honour and respect what your grandmother lived to uphold during her entire life and reign. Shame on you Harry.
Harry’s war stories were - stories, as in lies. He flunked pilot training and not only did he not have a kill count of 25, he never even got close to engaging in combat. He did indeed stay holed up in a bunker - when he was even there, which wasn’t often. (Note the lack of military bearing, discipline, emotional immaturity, wearing a beard with his uniform - all huge clues he wasn’t a soldier.) Anyway, your channel is really helpful in understanding not just the H$M debacle, but the universal elements contained within. I’ve really been stumped about a number of things, so this has been incredibly helpful. You explain things very well. Thanks for the info and insight.
I believe his core personality is fundamentally rotten but for most of his life he was surrounded by fundamentally decent good people, so this kept him in check. However, once he met MM (who encourages his dark side and spurs him on to wicked behavior), he now feels justified in acting out in an awful manner and attacking his perceived enemies. She manipulates him for her own agenda, but he has been a willing participant and in some ways he is worse than her because he has betrayed people who have always treated him better than he deserves.
In his defense, he probs didn’t handle the grief of losing his mother in such a public, horrific way that well since we know how much pressure is on a person in that family to keep it together so to speak I do think Harry is a decent chap-he can’t be that good of an actor in all his interviews/interactions pre MM-but I think he’s v easily manipulated due to not being the brightest lightbulb (his mom wasn’t that smart either…but was v kind like Harry was before too)

I really liked how this ended and the message. Working the 12 steps and helping people in addiction recovery I see people who have truly suffered horrendous things and yet the path to recovery is through responsibility and agency. The only thing that you control is what you do. No matter what. Even if tons of terrible things happened to you, you're responsible for how you respond and are present. The victim mentality is really poisonous.

I was friends with a narcissist and what you say is so true, the best thing to do is to ghost a narcissist, which is very hard to do when you're a good person. Ghosting feels bad to a good person but you can't let people continue to abuse you just because the other person tells you that they need to continue to abuse you in order for them to feel happy. Does that sound like someone who actually cares for you?
Narcissists are only happy when they are controlling someone. If you don’t want that you need to move away from them. I once dated a narcissist and didn’t even realise till many years later. I ghosted him in the end and that was the only way. They are very selfish and don’t care about anyone but themselves. They also act like everything is your fault. Good decision on your part to cut lose your former friend.
Sorry to hear you went through that. I told a narcissist why I was cutting them out of my life, so it wasn't technically ghosting. But since they literally can't absorb anything that conflicts with their narrative, it must have seemed to them like I vanished in a puff of smoke. 🤷
My mother. She was becoming so much more critical, cruel & horrible to me, that I completely ghosted her for 8 months. Then, Xmas was coming. My poor introvert Dad begged me to come home for Xmas. I did it to please him, but had to tolerate the subversive crap from my mother while I was there.

You make a good really point about oversharing and trying to paint it as a mental health PSA. I'll admit that I'm guilty of the same thing, and I'm trying to be better about that. I'm starting to use a term I thought of yesterday - "emotional littering" - which I was initially using to describe the instances where I fail to filter out my generational trauma and thus litter other people's emotional landscape with the negativity I inherited. But I'd also like to use that term for when I just overshare the negative feelings I have with others. I don't want to just dump all that garbage onto someone else's day. Ultimately, it's something that can be very effectively addressed with healthy boundary work. Don't give garbage, don't take garbage.

I like that term. I kind of think of it as gossiping (what H&M do definitely is) even if gossiping about yourself, but definitely if it includes generational trauma because then it's essentially gossiping about your family. It can be really hard to see that though when we think we're just talking about ourselves or being self deprecating.

Okay you beautiful strong human. First, get a good therapist. It's okay to change to different one if you don't think they are a good fit for your care. Second- he's out of the house, change the locks and refer all his questions to your lawyer. Always. You are not required to answer anything about separating your life from his without your lawyer. It expensive, but worth you safety.

Harry is definitely a narcissist and it's about time people realize and accept that. Let's be clear. His wife is revolting. She is a narcissist who is using him. But he is also using her to perpetrate a vile and unjustified revenge against his family. He has always been a narcissist. In his book you can tell by his behavior in his early years (prior to the loss of his mother) and his description of it. The way he treated people and thought of them since a young age is already very disturbing. And there is no wife to blame then. His behavior toward people just worsened over the years and was kept as hidden as possible from the public because the Palace did a spectacular job protecting him. He left, lost his safety net (against which he rebelled constantly) and simply exposed his true colors without filter. The wife is the perfect catalyst to his narcissism because it serves hers, and it is now showing in full force. The thing is, between the two, she is the most powerful narcissist. When he stops being of interest to her (which is closer than most may think), he will be discarded and smeared by her. He will less successfully attempt to do the same to her and things will take a very nasty turn.
Last point of the segment was exactly what I’ve come to learn and what brought me out of years of angry anxiety. I’m so much happier now knowing the truth and power of personal responsibility.
Diana would never have had the opportunity to do all her "good works" if she had not married Charles. She would have been a good Nanny or teacher.

A year ago we started hearing that after the book they plan on making 2023 the year of reconciliation. I thought it was crazy because who plans to attack their family, the values and legacy then start efforts for reconciliation, these are people you’ve hurt and betrayed.

When I was a teenager I used to get depressed rather a lot and in these periods it would only take the smallest imagined slight to make me sink even further down. Got talking to an older chap one day and asked him him how he dealt with such feelings and his advice was to get off myself. I’ve followed his advice ever since and, although I’ve had (as we all do) some extremely sad or cross times, there’s been virtually no depression.
Agree 100%. Today there is so much focus on "self", and in my view that is contributing to the upswing in mental health issues. That and the cult of looking for offence - or "offence mining" - as I prefer to call it. There is a tendency among the young to think that they're doing a good thing by calling out 'offence' and 'hate speech' or 'micro aggression', but this is training their minds into focusing on negatives which, as psychologist Jonathan Haidt said, is the polar opposite of CBT therapy which, in part, is designed to counter negatives and depression.
One big mistake the great Queen made: not letting Charles and Diana divorce years earlier.
It was an even bigger mistake to arrange this marriage.

I think for a lot of us it is natural to withdraw emotionally when we sense our emotions being manipulated. Emotionality really doesn’t contribute as much to civil discourse as people have pretended it does for the last ten years, and I notice myself shutting down emotionally and feeling put upon when I’m demanded to engage in hysterics as part of any conversation. I’ll start calling it the gray rock method but to me it’s just pure sanity in my heart.

I've actually started thinking that Harry is the narcissist in this equation. He has always been a spoiled, entitled, arrogant, jealous, bitter little man - it's all there in his book. The blasé attitude with which he refers to people he killed in conflict. The palace did an amazing job of covering up his real personality.
He used meghan as an excuse to do what he's always wanted, she gets the blame for everything and people still feel sorry for him. You could just as easily say that HE has isolated her, from her family and his. All she's got is her kids and the fancy house and she's stuck there with him. And her reputation is destroyed beyond repair. She's infamous.

I think Meghan pulled a lot of negative emotions out of Harry that he was harbouring. Her need for attention and her hatred for her own family gave Harry an outlet and “sympathetic ear” for his own “plights”. It can’t be easy to be the “spare” and have lost his mother so young while living in the spotlight. However, at the end of the day, the Royal Family is his family and his betrayal of them is his own. And seriously Harry, the whole “Heir & Spare” thing doesn’t work in the modern day. You’re 5th in line Harry. You should be grateful for being born into the House of Windsor and you should do better to honour and respect what your grandmother lived to uphold during her entire life and reign. Shame on you Harry.
Harry’s war stories were - stories, as in lies. He flunked pilot training and not only did he not have a kill count of 25, he never even got close to engaging in combat. He did indeed stay holed up in a bunker - when he was even there, which wasn’t often. (Note the lack of military bearing, discipline, emotional immaturity, wearing a beard with his uniform - all huge clues he wasn’t a soldier.) Anyway, your channel is really helpful in understanding not just the H$M debacle, but the universal elements contained within. I’ve really been stumped about a number of things, so this has been incredibly helpful. You explain things very well. Thanks for the info and insight.

I believe his core personality is fundamentally rotten but for most of his life he was surrounded by fundamentally decent good people, so this kept him in check. However, once he met MM (who encourages his dark side and spurs him on to wicked behavior), he now feels justified in acting out in an awful manner and attacking his perceived enemies. She manipulates him for her own agenda, but he has been a willing participant and in some ways he is worse than her because he has betrayed people who have always treated him better than he deserves.
In his defense, he probs didn’t handle the grief of losing his mother in such a public, horrific way that well since we know how much pressure is on a person in that family to keep it together so to speak
I do think Harry is a decent chap-he can’t be that good of an actor in all his interviews/interactions pre MM-but I think he’s v easily manipulated due to not being the brightest lightbulb (his mom wasn’t that smart either…but was v kind like Harry was before too)

Working the 12 steps and helping people in addiction recovery I see people who have truly suffered horrendous things and yet the path to recovery is through responsibility and agency.

Victimhood and blame is pervasive on both ends of the spectrum; the blame is simply being put on different perceived offenders.
Well said. I was going to comment about the left/right bit as well. Emotional reasoning and a general position of victimhood rule the vocal factions of each side. Nobody needs to feel accountable over their emotions, actions, circumstances and success anymore, if they prefer to just pick a side and get on the current bandwagons with their respective bogeymen/offenders and alluring stories.
