I agree with you saying that Voodoo Donuts has some crazy flavors that don't really work, however, their classic old school donuts and, obviously the Homer, are unmatched. I love their maple bar, maple old fashioned, and their bear claws.
Nola closed as of January 2023. Man I'm sad I missed them. Only moved down here from Alaska in January 2023.😩😩😩 Pips is my hands down favorite. They have SOLID FLAVOR. The maple bacon wasn't my favorite. Even though maple is my go to. Got a few new places to go, since watching this video though.
This was the exact video I needed, I'm heading to Portland next week for my bday and you helped me narrow down my choices. Any recommendations for birthday dinner downtown?
Happy early birthday! 🎈 There’s some great food downtown. There’s Brix Tavern, St. Jack and Jojo on the NW side. Also Screen Door which is one of my favorites whether dinner or brunch. All pretty lowkey. But there’s also the fancier restaurants like Fogo de Chao and El Gaucho steakhouse.
Up until now I would have never went to Voodo Doughnuts because it is way too touristy for my taste and the lines are always long at their flagship location in Old Town but I might give the Homer a try at their less crowded Milwauke location on SE McLoughlin.
@@MouseOnFeet lol I’ve tried a lot of the places on your list but idk Pips is just the perfect mix, and they switch out the flavors and a free dozen on your birthday, and the Smokey Robinson Chai is just **chefs kiss**
I watched one of your videos that talked about finding black folks in Portland….I’m actually here this weekend and there are more blacks in Portland than I’ve seen in Seattle…I think you need to go out on Friday and Saturday nights it’s popping on NW 3rd street and NW couch st….let me say Chinatown in general has great night life and there are bunch of blacks and Latinos around
Yeah, you can find black people going to clubs on the weekend but when you’re living here on a day to day basis, there’s not many settings where there’s multiple of us.
Makes sense. But one thing I seen is that they nice folks but the keep to their circle… try making homies. I came here alone but I met some cool folks to hangout with.
@@matthewgyasi9881 Never thought of that…. lol Of course, anywhere you go. Make friends. I know some cool black ppl here but the black community here isn’t what it is in Toronto or NY. That’s just what it is

Very true. They have some flavors that are great but I think the gimmicks overshadow the quality for Voodoo
I live by the homer there. Took me too long find that out
Just subscribed!
Much love! Thank you
Im going to be visiting Portland in a week, definitely going to a couple of these places.Big Thumbs Up
shout out to Lake Osnogo
Gotta coin that

Try a place called Heavenly Donuts in Portland. I find them the best in the area.
lol I’ve heard that they have decent donuts but they kinda look like a laundromat. I’ll go inside one day though
@@MouseOnFeet they look like laundry mats but the inside is in fact good
@@MouseOnFeetcinnamon crumb yeast at heavenly and angels is to die for

That is some strong will. lol I cracked and tried Voodoo my 2nd day out here 😅
y'all really gassing up Blue Star and now I must try it
You won’t be disappointed broski. Those are some heavenly donuts
I'm prefer a simplistic donut,
An apple fritter or maple bar from Annie's on Sandy blvd makes me want a cigarette afterwards- and I don't even smoke!
Maple Bars do always hit
Is Voodoo donuts from New Orleans as well? And if so is New Orleans the real home of donuts?
Nah, VooDoo was created by 2 Portland dudes
Blue Star is sooooo goood!!!
Yes! I’m obsessed with their donuts now
Manz went to Pips Donuts and got fried dumplings
😂😂😂 Tim Bits on crack
Pips hands down.
I do love some Pips. They have a special place in my heart
