I'm plants person in Japan and I must say this is truly Wasabi🌱 This beautiful farm's environment is perfect. Even wild wasabi growing in Japanese mountain would want to move here.
The time and effort into your content is spectacular. I found it very refreshing to hear the wasabi farmer speak about his trade with such passion, great video 👍🏻
I was at an izakaya in Fukuoka and my coworker was good friends with the owner and she just gave us a fresh wasabi root and grater with our food. It was amazing. I've been living in Japan for 13 years and been to plenty high-end sushi places but just tasting some of the freshly grated wasabi on its own was a whole different experience.
I recently bought a large plant from these guys. Planted into a simple aquaponics setup in the most shady spot in my back garden. Never had real wasabi so looking forward to harvesting my own in about 2 years time
Love your videos I live in a small community in America and I turn my yard and cement slab into a garden every year. And I grew mushrooms inside for years. This is the first year I’m gonna try to take my jars outside and do them in my garden.
I got my wasabi plant from the Wasabi Company! Had it three years! Not possible to give it too much water although I agree slugs are a problem!! I snip a leaf now and then for a spicy addition to a salad or as a garnish 👌🏽
Even though i don't really do gardening and i don't really have a garden, This documentary is really nice, I like the quietness and peacefullness of it Great job
*I absolutely LOVE the aesthetics of wasabi/cress farms. Reminds me of brisk autumn days when I was a kid wandering around the woods with my brother. Come across a small stream in the shade, moss, leaves, stones, the clean crystal water slowly passing us by. It’s like… a bedroom for a forest spirit type of thing. Just quintessential vista of a forest stream turned up to 11.*
I have a commercial indoor cultivation setup and have a familiarity with hydroponics. It would appear that Wasabi would do well in a hydroponic setup but the time to mature is far longer than any plants to which I'm accustomed to growing. Really love all your videos and appreciate your commitment to zero-waste practices.
My wasabi did not like the last summer, but it explodes during the winter. Amazing plant. I harvest it the next week and will eat it for the first time in my life. 🤩

That was very interesting, I heard wasabi isn’t great at travelling hence a lot of the fake stuff is about. I never knew the conditions to grow wasabi would be near ideal to grow it here in the UK. Thanks for that, a great video 😊
I have four Daruma wasabi plants that I just plunked into a shady corner of my garden a few years ago, and they're getting pretty big. I never do more than take a couple leaves here and there. Slugs and snails have never really been an issue. I'm surprised to see what conditions they're farmed in, since about all I've ever done with mine is weed around them and spray them with the hose. I have this weird misting thing that I'll put on them if it gets into the 90s in Summer, but that's about it.
Never tried real wasabi before, only a "fake" wasabi paste with like 0.5% wasabi in it. Sounds delicious by how it is explained in the video, gonna try it some day :)
Such a great video, always so knowledgeable and straight to the point, you can really tell this is something you’re so passionate about and makes me appreciate nature and it’s gifts even more❤️

We can't fully replicate the japanese wasabi experience outside Japan, but at least we can still plant the wasabis to each of our own country, provided that the optimum conditions for wasabi farming is met, of course. I guess UK had spots for wasabi farming, seeing that wasabis really preferred mid-to-high altitude and chill environment with enough irrigation.
For wasabi to grow, it needs abundant, clean water with a water temperature of 9 ~ 16 degrees and well-permeable soil such as sandy soil. I also hate strong sunlight. It is also known as a difficult crop to grow because it is limited to places with large amounts of clean water.

Wasabi is such an interesting plant.
It’s so worth the wait
Most “wasabi” sold in US is fake. A mixture of horseradish and coloring. But real wasabi is delicious!
Yep, I agree. Pretty much all of it even in uk
There's a company out of California that sells real wasabi. It's called Half Moon Bay Wasabi, they ship it too.
I grow horseradish here in the US (zone 5b) it grows like a weed
