Just wanted to say thank you to the producers and voice talents behind this and almost all the original Doyle works on TH-cam. I want y’all to know this isn’t just saying thanks. After a lifetime of hard times, I stumbled into what would be the hardest time yet. I could never turn my brain off; the thoughts of worry, fret, fear, pain were on a loop. Was always a fan of Holmes and found these. Decided to just trying being an infant and being read a story. Gentlemen, with a solid assist from medication these became a comfort ritual for me. I still use it as such and it has been helpful. So want to say thanks and that I hope God blessings you and your Holmes project. God bless.
Thank you, Mr. Clarke. Excellent, clear portrayals of such a wide variety of characters. Narration like this helps me understand why 18th and 19th century entertainment included listening to a good reader tell a story. Better than a film, for me.
Mr. Clark is actually a Librivox volunteer. Librivox is a nonprofit group that records mostly books in the public domain originally started before we had today's technology mostly to benefit the blind and visually impaired. The way it works is that a project manager posts a book they would like recorded, and people, out of kindness and a sense of civic duty or compassion, sign up and volunteer for no pay to read a chapter, or the entire book. Because of this, there are now thousands of these books available which anyone can access for free; so it is a temptation for people to download them, then upload them onto their own channel and either allow it to be implied they are the narrator, as well as to ask for donations for work other people did for free out of kindness to help the blind. I happen to know Mr. Clark as a Librivox volunteer. He worked very hard on many books.
With movies and tv the images are provided with audio books you have to create the images yourself, this is why most young people do not have imagination.
Yes, I suspect that David Clarke is a professional actor as this is not his natural voice, I suspect a north Midlands or north background, maybe Leeds or similar. Hugely important to have a decent reading, too many are just impossible.
Absolutely right Ruben. This chap is really good. There are so many examples of Libravox recordings that I have skipped because of poor narration. You think, " has the narrator not listened back to themselves? Or are they surrounded by sycophants?" Such a shame. And yet the idea behind Libravox is such a good one.
What a gem! 📚 Oh thank you for your time and effort, and money that it took to bring this diamond to us; we who cannot read any longer. Age, vision limitations and mobility (getting to the library), thank you and will forever show our gratitude, Then you again 💞 M. IL. USA
I am surprised by the quality of this recording. Most Librivox readers are untrained or selected according to voice quality. Many readers with this service ruin what otherwise would be great listens. Voice quality, phrasing, emphasis, and nuance are often ignored. This individual is a pro.

Oops mea culpa! Stupid me, l wasn't very attentive. The lodger did ask for the newspaper at the very bigginging. But still l didn't read where he asked to have his messages placed in the Agony section of the "Gazette"...
Well read, I suspect that David Clarke is a professional actor as this is not his natural voice, I suspect a north Midlands or north background, maybe Leeds or similar. Hugely important to have a decent reading, too many are just impossible.
Love your reviews man but if I can't look at my phone while I am on these then they aren't comfortable. I tried these last week after buying the Sony and the new Bose and these were hotter and heavier. Sound was good but not noticeably superior
In "The adventure of the Red Circle" perhaps l missed something in the telling of the story. If the mysterious lodger supposedly never, (except for the first time when he first moved into his lodgings), never left them, how was it that he was able to read and place any messages in the agony colloum of the local newspaper?! I read nowhere that he asked his landlady to provide him with any newspapers. Perhaps a more astute and observant reader was able to glean something out of this tale l may have missed. If so l would very much appreciate it if some "Sherlock" out there would "Clue" me in. I very much like Holmes, hate unsolved and unresolved mysteries. Please someone help me out here! lol...
Well it’s been a year, but I’m here to help. First, it wasn’t he in the room, it was she. They switched, remember? And the landlady tells Holmes she brings theDaily Gazette each morning w breakfast.
2021, lol! I have read every Holmes story numerous times and watched Jeremy Brett's portrayals many times over the years. I never get tired of Sherlock Holmes. I am now listening to the audio books and enjoying and appreciating them all over again. The narration is top notch. I also like Benedict Cumberbatch as narrator.
I feel silly now, for yrs I've thought it was called 'His Last Bow' because of the violin he plays, it's obvious now that it's bow as in 'take a bow' not bow as in 'bow and arrow'. I was thinking violin bow, his last bow lol
Is Tim Pigott-Smith narrating? Whoever he is, he's doing a great job! Oh, I see by the comments it's David Clarke - is this the David Clarke -- www.imdb.com/name/nm0164731/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_4

You need to listen to magpie audio which is read by Greg wagland

An excellent & enjoyable performance by this narrator. Thank you
hands down the best Sherlock Holmes narrator. Thanks David Clarke!

Mr. Clarke has a wonderful voice. Thank you. A great read !!😊
I have never found a narrator that I like as well as Greg Wagland.
Until now. You do these stories very well. Thank You for sharing.
Oh, if only all the LibriVox narrators we're of this caliber.
So true. This guy was a pro!
Ruben James were, you idiot. Kidding... about the idiot part. But your error is ironic. Google corrector? That’s an idiot.

I second, triple, and quadruple that emotion.
Please excuse my typos. It’s early.
Excellent narration, thank you for giving your time and talent.
What a fantastic audio experience. Amazing range of character portrayals. Very Impressive
Less tv , more audiobooks like this calibre .

Thanks for sharing. This is an excellent production.
Great narrative.
Much better narrator than the usual librivox. I hate to be critical of this free service but a bad narrator can ruin a beautiful book.

bad no substitles.
As this series is not of a film or TV series, surely subtitles would be redundant ? Why not simply read the book?
What are substitles, pray?
