The first time I saw Maynard was 1973. What a thrill. Keep going to his concerts up until he passed. That thrill never wore off. I had the opportunity to visit with him, one on one, for about 45 minutes in Chicago between shows.
    He was one sweet man.
    Long live the Boss !

I saw Maynard and his band many times over the years from the 70's right up until just before he passed away. His band and Blood, Sweat, and Tears were my two favorite bands in high school. Always had a killer band and put on a great show. You always looked forward to going to a Maynard Ferguson Concert. Not only a great musician, he was a great guy. He loved his fans and his musicians. This is just like he played in the 70's / 80's. Non stop powerhouse. Great arrangements. Mike G. Drums, R.I.

Great performance. I remember when this was done live and simulcast on the net.
I Idolized Maynard. Saw Maynard in many venues since he returned to America in the very early 70's to the end. There are a few players that come close, but there will never be another trumpeter in my opinion , that will ever fill his shoes and totally capture that power and full tone in the upper register he was able to produce. And to have continued wowing audiences well into his 70's is a testament as to how great he was. He passed on 8/23 which is actually my birthday . I seriously wish every young kid playing trumpet could magically have the experience of seeing Maynard live, especially around the 1972-1978 period during his prime. These later concerts were awesome as well , but during the mid 1970 era he was playing at a level that was simply not of this world & he was able to do it night after night after night- amazing. There isn't a day that goes by since he passed that I don't go back and play one of these videos . Hopefully some of the material sitting gathering dust will get released before it falls into obscurity.

I was sitting in my friends Jazz Club at a table with a sign stating RESERVED for Maynard Ferguson on it. I thought to myself who the hell is Maynard Ferguson? then after 3 scotch rocks he on stage...... His sound was Very Bright and larger than Life and went into your inner core. I've never heard a better man on horn. Before that I thought Chicago Band was good on Horn. I fell in love with his sound. I'm happy to find this well made music video......... Great Job on sound and Film...

Saw him several times- originally when my grandfather took me to see him in the late 80s- I was blown away. Saw him the year he passed too- and he still sounded good. Got to speak to him a few times as well- what a friendly guy!

Does anyone happen to know the name of the tune that James Morrison plays on? I haven't heard it before on a Maynard record so it might just be a typical blues. Anyone care to enlighten me?

For those that don't think that Maynard wasn't "saying nuthin". OK, maybe a cultural matter. I call it racial bias. But for those who love music and jazz in particular ... get past the "culcha" crap and just listen!!!!!
