"So you're punching and you're kicking and you're shouting at me. I'm relying on your common decency... So far it hasn't surfaced, but I'm sure it exists. It just takes a while to travel from your head to your fists." I've always absolutely loved this stanza since the first time I heard it!
DM's Singles LP contains a collection of their bad reviews on the sleeve... Blasphemous Rumours is called "a routine slab of gloom in which God gets a severe ticking off". That's always stuck with me, very funny. I love the song too.
My favorite band of all time.... in 2017 I flew from Canada to the UK to see them play at the Olympic Stadium, in London. I was in the front row at the stage with VIP tickets, and 80,000 screaming fans behind me. That was literally one of the best nights of my life.
Wow ....so u just opened up a rabbit hole of a band that's FINALLY in the Hall of Fame !!! ....hundreds of sings u can do on your sight .....countless!!! ....the song *Its No Good* was my 2d wedding song with my wife.....the song *Clean* which might be the best song they ever did !!! ....that song was my late wife's song - age used to sing it to me in a whisper all the time when we were together for thar moment in time in 1990 - 1991 ......go listen to Clean......
Depeche Mode lead the electronic alternative movement in the 80‘s, became global superstars in the 90‘s and keep going strong basically till today. So many good songs from so many era‘s. Please check Never let me down again, Barrel of a gun, A pain that I‘m used to or Wrong just to name some of the bangers.
Really you have to understand that D Mode dominated the 80's alternative music scene. They continued strong throughout the 90's. I would strongly suggest some later hits too - the maturity in the song writing, music and production all improved with age - Violator was a huge album saw them on that tour. World in my eyes!
Bit of a stretch. They had some excellent songs in the 80s but not that many.90s? Personal Jesus, thats it. The y had excellent production on Violator, give em that.
@@dene39 I agree 100% - I love Violator, but I definitely wouldn't say that Depeche Mode 'dominated' the 80s + 90s - there were so many awesome bands and so much good music that came out in those 2 decades,. I think it's more fair to say that they held their own, but can't agree that they were somehow better than the others. Just my opinion.
Brad & Lex, this band has staying power. Their worldwide tour May 2017-July 2018, 130 shows, drew 3 million fans! "Policy Of Truth" and "Everything Counts" are next for you!!
I saw them play in Seattle in October 2017... a good 30+ years from the first time I saw them as a teen in the mid 80s (with many shows in between). They were still absolutely amazing live. I really hope they do another tour because I NEED to see them again.
The 80's had the BEST dance music! It was dance music with a message! We identified with the message so much and then we had the best time dancing to it! OMG...I miss those days!
This song came out in 1984 when the song writer, and back vocal singer on this, Martin Gore, was around 23. When he was 31 and was about to have his first child his mother told him that his father, whom he had never known, was an African-American. It was just so they wouldn't be surprised if the child had had a darker skin tone than her parents.
DM was the single biggest band through the 80's. They literally changed the entire soundscape. I have to say, Lex, you have a very good ear. You may not know all the terminology, but you hear all the nuance very well. These guys, Martin Gore in particular, were serious musical craftsmen. There's always multiple layers of rhythm and melody.
Depech Mode - Policy of Truth! Please do this too! It is amazing! Also, I always thought of People Are People as a great anti-racism song so seeing you guys kind of touch on that aspect about people growing up in a hateful environment shaping them into haters is very spot on.
I definately think that this was originally an anti-racist song but in the modern world it could easilly be seen as coming from the view of what could be considered the right wing.
A song for today as much as 30 years ago. You guys keep doing the music we all grew up to and pretty soon you'll have too many followers. I'd love to see you guys react to some movies too.
I'd love that too, but reacting to movies is a whole other thing, though. Copyright issues for a start, not to mention hours of editing. I can see why they don't.
Growing up in the 80's. I was a heavy metal , hard rocker. Most of us despised these songs back then because they ruled MTV. That being said when i hear these songs especially this one i absolutely love it. The Nosalgia draws me in then I end up loving the song. Check out Adam & The Ants. Stand & Deliver, Strip, Goody two shoes, Ant Music. All great songs
Oh hell yeah, Depeche Mode is my favourite band of any era. I've listened to this track, and most of their tracks, numerous times and they probably have at least 20-30 iconic 80's tunes like Enjoy The Silence, Strangelove, Personal Jesus, It's No Good, Just Can't Get Enough... ugh, probably more than 30. Love DM and finally, after all these years we finally know what makes a man hate another man and it's lattice. (for the new channel folks, Brad and Lex received a warning notification to remove the lattice on their propery, which is ridiculous and we all just chuckle at that especially that it was there before they moved in.)
😯 this is my group !!! you guys hit the jackpot with this group , probably one of if not the best synth bands to come out of the 80s , this band has so many songs to choose from to react to and enjoy at the same time , great song choice and great message in the song , and great reactions from all you guys , some of the songs that are good by them are , strange love , never let me down again , everything counts , get the balance right , personal jesus , but not tonight , its no good , world in my eyes , question of lust , fly on the windscreen , i can go on about this band , just look up the best of depeche mode , you wont be disappointed , trust me on this one , again great reactions and group / song choice !!!😀
Lex, you are gifted with a poetic way of describing the vibe of the songs you listen to! Great reaction-- this song never gets old. I appreciate all that you both do to create this wonderful content-- keep doing what you do! Blessed Bee
I love Lex reactions. She is listening with the heart. She is not trying to find the message in the words first. This is like I listen music first as well.
I don't know if anyone else wrote that they burst onto the New Romantic scene back in 1981 with New Life. Shortly after Vince Clark left to form Yazoo and Depeche became as Lex said 'Industrial' using dustbin lids etc to create their distinctive sound. Love watching Lex bopping on the couch and Brad's sideways looks of 'what are you doing?'. I saw that you were having tenancy problems! Here in the UK 🇬🇧 you'd be asked to remove any structures that contradicted your lease, it could go to court, but if you showed compliance it would be thrown out. So much for the land of the free!!!
I think it was the late 80's when I first heard this band. Not the type of music I usually listen to but their unique sound and energy got me hooked! I ended up with all of CD's they had out. 30+ years later and they still sound awesome.
DUDE!!! I love you guys! I've been a huge Depeche Mode fan since elementary school in the early 80's. I even have a Depeche Mode tattoo on my forearm. Thanks for making my day!
One of the things I have always loved about this song is the dual vocal. The lead singer, who's name is Dave (David) Gahan and for the chorus is the song writer for Depeche Mode named Martin Gore. This was not the first time they harmonised like this. I would suggest checking two songs, 'everything count's' and 'Shake The Disease. But if you really want to hear Martin Gore sing and shine on a song, I strongly suggest 'Somebody' .( From the same album that People Are People is off of . Some Great Reward. A Classic)
80s was experimenting with sounds . Synthesizers are in everything now, so much so you don't even realise when you hear it.Everyone should buy an analogue synthesizer to play with they're so much fun to create your own sounds👏👏
I saw Depeche Mode in the early 90s and they were wonderful. I have such a soft spot in my heart for them. I still listen to them every week and always will!
The thing I love about DM is they sounded more advanced than the other bands until NIN arrived in the late 80s. They used organic sounds in the early albums.
This is what I miss most about the 80s, there was a big movement that was bringing different races and ethnicities together and it was working. Funny how politicians quickly turned to identity politics to break this up as soon as they could. Politicians thrive when we are divided.
Wow. This is 100% the truth. People for the most part want to live and let live. Politicians are not people in this sense. It's control. The need to control another makes a man hate another man...when they can't be controlled. (Obviously human, not just male, man as in the human race).
You're so right, Richard. But, we don't have to fall for their nonsense. Just stick true to our principles of what's right and wrong and we'll pull through!
That was the greatest thing about growing up in the 80's. We are all human and the only species on the branch of the tree life. People are people.....also Soylent green is people 🤣
And after that listen to Sasha & Digweed versions! Super fucking amazing! th-cam.com/video/_vmhWhHn7_s/w-d-xo.html Just give it a listen, the video accompanying it is amazing with some of the best CGI from back in the day. And the crazy thing is the song perfectly synced up to the visuals on a space documentary it is nuts how well it matched it.
Your channel is CRUSHING IT. I's well worth your time checking out their live record, 101. 101 is astounding. Especially the closing track, Everything Counts - they have a sold-out audience at the Rose Bowl singing along with every word. Powerful. Damn, I wish I could have been there, I was just a bit too young. And Lex, you're so on point. (I love you too Brad)
They been around for 42 years they win 🥇 the prize of life they got in to the roll and roll hall of fame they sold 200 million albums and they sold out 20 times over and when first listen and get one of first albums and fans
I love watching people listen to DM songs for the first time and how much they love it! I have been a fan since about 1983 cause my older sister got me into them when I was 8! I envy everyone who finds them for the first time cause it's magical!
I can't believe you got around to Depeche mode. So happy for you. So many great songs by Depeche Mode out there. You should totally check out more of their songs. I am surprised you haven't checked anything by the Cure yet. Songs like The Cure's Love Song or Fascination Street are pretty cool. They got just as many songs, if not more than Depeche Mode in their catalog. Other good Depeche Mode songs- Policy of Truth, Never let me down again, Walking in my shoes, Personal Jesus. You literally can't miss with these guys.
Just a little pop culture observation..back in the day (80's) only "Rockers (and Stoners)" wore band logo T shirts. You had to actually get them at the concert (except for K mart phonies that were so bad!) and you wore them till they were faded and threadbare. You never saw new looking ones except right after a concert. Now younger people are wearing them again but they all look too new! you gotta wash it at least 5 times and tumble dry for the authentic look!
what a banger this is literally....they hits so many different things to create the very many sounds, now aside from that the lyrics are very accurate even by todays standards
They also threw stuff around all over the place as well. I remember seeing in a documentary, film of members of Depeche Mode throwing nuts and bolts (something like that, anyway) onto the bottom track section of an aluminium framed patio door for a sample...
You guys are young and I wish you could understand how powerful this Song was to us when it first came out in the 80's. This song would fill up the dance floor at the clubs!
Depeche mode are not only a wonderful sound they are one of the best live bands I have ever had the pleasure of watching, from start to finish a brilliant show and performance. If you ever get the chance, go to see them.
This is one of my favorite Depeche Mode songs! It’s one of the earliest hits! I also love, The Policy of Truth, Strange Love, Enjoy the Silence and more! Great eighties band!❤️❤️
These guys were huge in the alternative/techno of the late 1980's and 1990's. Check out their catalog. The Lakers played "Master and Servant" at home games for the obvious message to the opposing team. A great song.
Thank you, I love Depeche Mode❤️ Many favorites: Walking in my shoes, Halo, A question of lust, Here is the house, Enjoy the silence and many many more
Lex, by you saying it's so industrial is 100% correct. DM prided themselves on bringing industrial elements to their sound. That and danceable beats made them stand out.
Little over 2.5 years ago caught DM show in San Antonio, it was my second time seeing them. They are electric!!!! So many memories from middle school to high school!
Oh man, good video, I missed the stream, nice to see Brads brother again and hear the lattice shout out. I don’t know if that last question could be answered but it made me think until I realise that...I don’t know
It's kind of funny, and wholesome, to see their reactions. This song has been with me since it was quite new, when I was 6 years old (1985) and I instantly loved it back then (i didn't understand the lyrics ofcourse, english is not my native language). Gives me goosebumps hearing it and seeing the reactions. Music can really unite people.
Love the song !!One of my FAVORITE GROUPS of the 80's this group was named last year into the ROCK HALL OF FAME so again LOVE UR reactions the takes so entertaining enjoyable even more fun with U have LIL BRO BERTO??? N GF shes just kills it great smile love the attitude very entertaining continue sucess I have no doubt u will be even more sucessful ....PROUD OF U GUYS ur amigo ALBERTO from MEXICO!!
This is the song that got Depeche Mode noticed is the USA before hitting main stream superstardom in 1990 with there Violator album. I recommend checking out " Enjoy The Silence" that hit the USA top 10 Billboards. In the early 90's DM changed there sound and look a little like in songs "I Feel You " or in the late 90's with " Barrel Of A Gun" they are much more hard hitting rockier songs but still with the DM stamp of synth. "Never Let Me Down Again " is a song they always play live on there tours it is also an awesome tune
I went to see these guys at the cottobowl in Dallas. Summer break before my Sophomore year of HS. It was the Music For The Masses tour . Same tour was released as a 2cd live album. Depeche Mode 101 is the name of the live album.
You are my single favourite reactors, and getting from Depeche Mode to Chuck E. Cheese in about two leaps is just one of the reasons. Please never stop.
There was a New Wave electronica revival in 2000s. So musically lots of change ups and it was really dynamic. It kept your ear wanting more. I hope this happens again because the style can always be adapted to sound current. New Wave always sounds fresh to me.
I bought New Life in 81, when i was 18 going on 19........ 43 years later, I'm still listening. I've seen Depeche Mode twice back in the 80s, and i'm now coming up to 62 and still love their sound.
I've been wishing someone would release a cover of this song, for today. The lyrics really hit me as a kid, and we really need some inoffensive anti-hate songs today.
I so dig that you guys are delving into music from when I was in high school & digging it. I’m almost 52 and I love watching these videos.I’ve been a serious fan of DM for about 40 years.
Hey, listening to Depeche Mode always reminds me of high school. Also check out "Everything Counts" and "Never Let Me Down Again", and if you're down for more deep thoughts check out "Blasphemous Rumours", then again if you just want to dance, check out "Just Cant Get Enough".
first heard this on MTV in 1985 and was blown away. been a DM fan ever since. i don't think it can be overstated how much influence they've had on pop music since.
Hey guys! Just wanted to start by saying how much I love you guys! I enjoy watching your reactions to so many great songs and the diversity of so many genres! Especially with bands I adore like Depeche Mode. One of my favorite bands since I was 10 in 86’. I love how Lex mentions Industrial. Even though DM isn’t industrial, they definitely had some of those elements in some of their songs. I really want to talk to you guys about introducing more industrial bands that you guys could listen and react to. There so many great underground bands out there that I’m sure you’re not aware of. Stuff I could see you guys possibly liking. Most Industrial bands are underground and the genre has been around since the late 70’s but there so many different types. Sub genres. It would be great to see your guys thoughts on some of them. If you’re interested. Let me know. I could be your Goth/Darkwave/Industrial teacher 😜🤣 Keep up with the great work. Cheers to you two!
"So you're punching and you're kicking and you're shouting at me. I'm relying on your common decency... So far it hasn't surfaced, but I'm sure it exists. It just takes a while to travel from your head to your fists."
I've always absolutely loved this stanza since the first time I heard it!
This song is still relevant in 2022. This song is Classic and Timeless!!! I Love Depeche Mode.
I love this era of Depeche Mode. My favorite song is blashemous Rumors.
That's my favorite song of theirs too.
Mine too!
DM's Singles LP contains a collection of their bad reviews on the sleeve... Blasphemous Rumours is called "a routine slab of gloom in which God gets a severe ticking off". That's always stuck with me, very funny. I love the song too.
The Sun & The Rainfall for me..
I just listen to 101 and Violator
The little brother got it. Hatred is taught.
Was thinking the same!
Anger usually stems from hurt
I think you're born with it. We're all born ignorant.

Depeche Modes influence reaches wide & far. Even after 40 years they're still going strong and as innovative as ever
I saw them live a couple of years ago, and they were absolutely brilliant still.
Yes and Still

I remember seeing in a documentary, film of members of Depeche Mode throwing nuts and bolts (something like that, anyway) onto the bottom track section of an aluminium framed patio door for a sample...
they got that aluminum sound from banging the pots and pans in their kitchen. they recorded a sample of it, and then looped it.
You guys are young and I wish you could understand how powerful this Song was to us when it first came out in the 80's. This song would fill up the dance floor at the clubs!
Depeche Mode is so good! Been listening to them for 25 years. This song takes me back.
Depeche mode are not only a wonderful sound they are one of the best live bands I have ever had the pleasure of watching, from start to finish a brilliant show and performance. If you ever get the chance, go to see them.
Depeche Mode is considered New Wave, but it's also kinda the origin of Industrial.
I Have No Room For Hate In My Heart Or Life,, For Hate Is A Cancer That Eats At & Eventually Destroys All Who Embrace It.
Back in the 80's again. Don't forget about Talk Talk. Either 'Life's What You Make It' or 'Such a Shame'. Very 80's for me.
Makes me think of the famous quote "can't we all just get along?".
This is one of my favorite Depeche Mode songs! It’s one of the earliest hits! I also love, The Policy of Truth, Strange Love, Enjoy the Silence and more! Great eighties band!❤️❤️
I miss Depeche Mode. Yes, they were quite "soundy". Love your reaction!
You need to hear Enjoy the Silence, Precious, Blasphemous Rumors, and Behind the Wheel. Keep this rabbit hole going!
These guys were huge in the alternative/techno of the late 1980's and 1990's. Check out their catalog. The Lakers played "Master and Servant" at home games for the obvious message to the opposing team. A great song.
Maan, this is honestly one of the best songs ever made to me, fr. This and Strangelove
Thank you, I love Depeche Mode❤️ Many favorites: Walking in my shoes, Halo, A question of lust, Here is the house, Enjoy the silence and many many more
the best way to listen to Depeche mode is live. but not just any live version. listen to the devotional tour. absolute greatness
Lex you got a good ear for music even though this is 30+ years old it’s so applicable now love depeche mode
Lex, by you saying it's so industrial is 100% correct. DM prided themselves on bringing industrial elements to their sound. That and danceable beats made them stand out.
Blending techno/industrial/pop...awesome band! Enjoy the Silence is one of my all time favorites from them.
She is so pure! She can connects to the songs so deeply and quick. I love her ❤ she is a feeling machine. I like her!!
This makes me smile. Do more DM! My favorite band since 1985. So many good songs. Still love them today. You should watch them live. 😊
Little over 2.5 years ago caught DM show in San Antonio, it was my second time seeing them. They are electric!!!! So many memories from middle school to high school!
Yeah Depeche Mode, I think their first radio club hit!!
Enjoy the silence by them is pretty good too
Oh man, good video, I missed the stream, nice to see Brads brother again and hear the lattice shout out.
I hope your brother keeps joining you once in a while. He is a nice addition.
Depeche Mode 101 is the name of the live album.
its a great album.... love it )
exactly, the beginning of industrial
Nice job little brother. The words say it all
I never got to see this band live but I hear they were 100% amazing live.
They have an endless catalogue of hits like this.
Depeche Mode is GENIUS.
Check their masterpiece Enjoy The Silence
You are my single favourite reactors, and getting from Depeche Mode to Chuck E. Cheese in about two leaps is just one of the reasons. Please never stop.
It's nice seeing the new kid, he seems to be open to try new things and excited about it.
A selfie Museum, wow! I am old! If you go see them LIVE today you will be very amazed visually as well as musically.
Hey, listening to Depeche Mode always reminds me of high school. Also check out "Everything Counts" and "Never Let Me Down Again", and if you're down for more deep thoughts check out "Blasphemous Rumours", then again if you just want to dance, check out "Just Cant Get Enough".
Me too bro …class of 1992 here lol miss these days!
I love depeche mode! ❤ I'm an real synth girl from the 80ies this was my life all Day and night. ❤
I truly like to se your reactions. You are so dedicaded and real. Nice work!!! ❤❤❤
Yep, agree, people are people.
DM have many great songs.
I think Enjoy The Silence should be next.
Enjoy the Silence!
The iconic video..not lyrics video
But it has to be live. Mode is like no other live
As usual Lex gets the sonic concept of this EXACTLY !
Thaaaaaank you 😀🙌🙌🙌💕💕💕for reacting to DM and I totally agree with Lexs description...of their layering of sounds...
B52s, DM, NO and the Cougar today? Fiyah!
first heard this on MTV in 1985 and was blown away. been a DM fan ever since. i don't think it can be overstated how much influence they've had on pop music since.
