3D Printer Bed Level Visualizer (Without Octoprint!)

  • Getting your build plate level is critical if you want to have an excellent first layer or good prints in general. Using auto bed leveling options like the BLTouch can help significantly, but it can only do so much, and it puts extra load on the stepper motors and drivers. In this video, I show you how to use Proterface to get the values of your mesh and also show you how to visualize it without Octoprint.

    So, when doing it as you have done here, is G29 triggering the printer's built-in mesh routine, or is it driven by pronterface? I ask because yours looked like 3x3, while most printers I'm aware of tend to do a 4x4 mesh at minimum.

    • @3DPrintscape
      @3DPrintscape  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. The g29 command kicks off the built in mesh. In most cases that is a 3x3 grid. With some larger printers its set to 5x5.

  • @vagautohaus4492
    @vagautohaus4492 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, nice little applet you found.. from what I can see all these beds are warped anywhere between 0.1 to 1mm between centres and corners, even if all corners are spot on, the center will dip or rise considerably.
    I'm assuming the bed of budget printers like the ender 3 lineup have aluminium or polypropylene beds, not sure which yet, and at 3mm thick and constant bed heat cycles and temps of 70 odd degrees C doesn't help either.

    • @3DPrintscape
      @3DPrintscape  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Ya most of the bed on creality printers have some type of warp in them. Using a ABL kit and switching to glass helps a lot though.

      @@3DPrintscape yeah definitely helps, I got a cr touch which improved things considerably, I'm currently building a bunch of beds less prone to warping using various materials and trialling higher bed temps

  • @squishefoot
    @squishefoot ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. Thanks for the video. Love your channel. Quick question. In Pronterface visualization, if it shows red then that part of the bed is too high, right? So I would need to tighten the wheel to make that corner go down, right? Same for the opposite. I just don't get how I'll do little tweaks to dial it in and next time I g29 and visualize it, it goes way out of whack. Also I get sharp peaks in between the corners. Ender 3 with glass bed. Thanks!!

    • @3DPrintscape
      @3DPrintscape  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Yes red would mean too high and can be fixed by tightening the wheels. Its possible your bed is warped. Try to run the test without the glass build plate to see if anything really stands out.

      Hi. DO you get an error or anything? If you connected with cura first you may get an access denied issue when moving over to pronterface because software likes to lock connections. You may need to reboot when moving between them.

      Thanks for the quick response and for even replying. I tried connecting with pronterface first, rebooted the PC as well, killed all uneccessary Windows tasks and apps. Just says "Connecting..." and nothing else. Baud rate set to 115200 to match the printer. Computer can see it and it appears as COM 3 in device manager.
      Ever other piece of software I've tried sees and communicates with the printer no issues, made sure I am using a high quality data USB cable.
      Sadly none of the other 'slicers' seem to have a bed visualizer like PF does which is what I am interested in.
