@@otoolepw I also think that if there was a band as good as Nirvana, they would never get famous. There's no music industry to promote people, no live music scene to come up in that's half-as-good as Seattle back then, no money to pay the rent for busting your hump over a handful of songs, and no radio or MTV or anything to get them out to the masses.

Well, Bleach was a staggeringly run-of-the-mill album for its day. Nothing much 'popped' on it. One reviewer even had the chutzpah to compare it to a lame attempt at being Guns n Roses (Kurt would've enjoyed that praise, I'm sure). Nirvana signed to DGC because Sonic Youth advised them to (as they'd just recently signed on to them). Better production and Kurt's admission of loving pop songs paved the way for Nevermind. The rest is now history

true but on album no it's no longer kurt's tone but instead is also sorta Steve Albini's tone or Butch Vig's tone or whoever did the Nirvana albums...
Typically a musicians "tone" refers to their live sound where the musician is making all the effect and gear choices, verses on an album where a producer/mixer makes a lot of those decisions after the recording is already done

It's a bit of eerie foreshadowing (but nothing more than coincidence) that there's a Nevermind display and a Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers display flanking Grohl's position... Nevermind propelled him to stardom whereas the latter gave him the opportunity to keep working as a drummer after Kurt's death... and that experience helped guide his decision to part with Petty and form the Foo Fighters.

Strange observation of me to make here, but it's funny to see the Tom Petty poster in the back considering Dave had played for him. It's also odd to consider that Chad would wear a Germs GI shirt in those early photoshoots then Pat Smear joined the band, lol, what a small world these guys lived in

I'm pretty close, 37, and... I really can't remember when I first heard them, but it was probably around the same for me. Sometime in '92... although now that I think about it, I may not have known Kurt's name until people started talking about his death. Pretty sure I knew of the band though. K, just a bunch of speculating here, thanks for reading lol.

I think the reason why the generation that was of the Grunge era was less violent was because we stomped , jumped , shook, and screamed along because we were out living life live , at home, walking or in the car , we let all that built up energy out , while it does get me pumped and it is like a fuel that lights my fire it really does let me rage out without knocking some folks out that I just want to pop their heads of like you grapes .. pop pop pop... it's fun to listen to grunge and pogo stick to it .. just .. remember pogoing up the stairs , is a good idea at that moment ... not when you're jumping and going down .. floors come out of no where suddenly .. smh .. surprised I never broke myself or needed up not living life alive loud and live ..

The problem with any band is when you just start.... you say yes, to everything...
Then you play and play and play... and just the band and some friend show up...
Then you play and play and play.... and suddenly...
"Yea, we need you to play infront of this mob of fans that we can't control"
    Answer:" Emmm...eh..."
    Show start.
