Loved hearing CathyCat speaking German! She's so smart to be able to speak all these languages so fluently!
Ok I think I heard three or four languages that she spoke. Impressive.
The French girl speaks much more better English than most of us (I am French too).As I am concerned what I was suprised the most is their kindness,helpfulness and clearliness

She is German.
She speaks Japanese like a native Japanese. At least her Japanese is accent free.
In german is very normal to speak 3/4 languages perfekt ( German , English because is it 10 years in the school, 40% learn French or Spain in school too, and in germany are many from a other country ( a lot from Poland / Turkey )
so i can speak perfekt German , Polish and a lot English and Japan
I don't know how many languages she speaks but she shrieks fluently. It's scaring my cats.

It's kind of nice to know German people don't feel Japan is weird. They find Japan more positive about the variety of shops, guest hospitality or coexistence of youth culture and traditional culture.
Given how weird germany is, that shouldn't be a surprise.

I'm live in London, where it's very diverse, and if there's one thing I learnt is that you can't guess a person's country until they speak, because everytime I try, I'm completely end up wrong

Hey look, it's me! xD As an afterthought, some of the other things people said also surprised me, but I guess you don't remember them as well once you've gotten used to them, such as the whole "clean streets, no trash bin" thing.
Also, may I say, Cathy's outfit that day was really pretty. Chou kawaii and très chic ;)
When I got lost on trains in Germany, people helped me. I'm an American, and the young people all seemed to speak English.

@@The1963gm Yep, I'm from Germany and we learn english at the age of 6/8, so almost every young person speaks english pretty good
Dyani Tsuyo Yeah, every single German that I've met spoke English pretty well.
English and German are actually pretty closely-related, so that helps a lot especially with vocabulary. And any leg up on a foreign language makes it a ton easier to learn. A lot of German words just tend to *sound* like what they mean to English speakers: even if, say, they aren't using the root word we might for a given concept, it's often only slightly sideways from some word we *do* know and use for something.
Interesting comments! I noticed that you seemed much more polite and formal when speaking in German. Not a criticism, I just found it interesting. When I first visited Japan, locals insisted that I try natto but luckily I had a cold at the time, which helped with the smell, but not the consistency. Great tip about the convenience store bins, and they usually have recycling bins for bottles, too. The Japanese don't eat on the street, so it's easy to avoid having to find a bin if you only eat in a restaurant or at home.

You know, when I was in Tokyo, I never saw one of those modern toilets. The one in our apartment was pretty normal, and I didn't see anything crazy at any of the restaurants I visited.
Also, I can remember several times where people used their bicycle bell when riding on the sidewalks when I was there, at least when the sidewalk was busy.
People keep saying there are no trash cans. I only had difficulty finding a bin once when I was going into Yoyogi park and wanted to throw away a plastic bottle of a drink I had finished. Pretty much any of the vending machine stations has a bin, and pretty much every convenience store has a bin, and convenience stores are EVERYWHERE in Tokyo.
Things that surprised me: How quiet everyone is when riding the train; how pretty much nothing opened for business until 10:00 or 11:00 in the morning; way fewer people are walking around wearing "Harajuku fashion" in Harajuku than you expect; three typhoons hitting Tokyo in one week while I was there; and the occasional outgoing guy who would joke with us while we were walking around.

What surprised me about Tokyo? How big and confusing that Shinjuku train station was!!

omg the trashcan thing so freaking true, I could not figure out how they avoid litter that way I had so much trash in my bag lol
Toilets - check. Lack of bins - check. Incredibly helpful locals - check. I can vouch for all of those, and also the soundscape. I'd seen lots of pictures of Tokyo, but I wasn't prepared for its many sounds. One thing I particularly noticed on the first day (I don't know why it surprised me but it did) was that all the recorded voices warning people about things like reversing trucks, automatic gates opening, etc., were female. That's not the case in other countries I've been in.

It always suprises me that I've never got enough space in my suitcase when I go back to my own country after a visit to Japan. :p
The one that surprised me aside from the toilets, was the fitting room👗....you have to remove your shoes before getting inside.
最後に街なかにゴミ箱が少ない理由を解説してたのが良かったです。
家庭ごみを公園やコンビニ等のゴミ箱に不法投棄する人が増えて、
対策で撤去され始めたのも大きな理由です。

I didn't notice any old bicycles when I was in Tokyo but I did saw alot of battery powered ones.
Man, I wish I knew how to speak German and Japanese on top of English as well as Cathy Cat! I'm trying, but girl, it's going to take me until I'm 80 lol. America needs to step up it's game with teaching a foreign language in school. I took 10 years of Spanish and I can only speak at a 10-12 year old level.

Oh yeah, I watched her Draw My Life video a couple weeks ago haha. That's why I mentioned America should get better at teaching foreign languages like Germany or Sweden. xD
truly. I speak English and Japanese, however Mandarin is my mother language. But they are all from the influence of the people I talk to, not schools.

I think it also would have been interesting if you specified the nationalities of the foreigners being interviewed so it could have been fun to compare the two cultures.
I'm not sure if it was a good or a bad thing but I done lots of research about Japan before I arrived there for 2 weeks this year. So I think in that respect there wasn't as much of a culture shock as I knew what to expect in some areas.
Being from Scotland however I was still easily able to recognize what was unique/different compared to my own country but most importantly, I enjoyed every second of it! :)
My long term goal is to earn a Bachelors degree so that I can one day move there.

I have a video suggestion. Ask Japanese if they know the meaning of their clothing with English on them. It's like Americans getting Japanese tattoos.

Many Japanese don't seem to read it or try to understand the meaning of the English on their clothing. I'm Japanese and have once seen a teenage girl wearing T-shirts which wrote on the chest part " F*ck Me Tonight ". I asked her " Do you know the meaning of the English ? ". She answered " No " with unpleasant face because she was spoken to by a stranger (me). So, I didn't tell her the meaning of it.
You are really fluent in all these languages ! Ich studiere auch Deutsch and 日本語を勉強します :) I love studying languages ;)

Ok...in diesen Videos hier nun von den Touristen deutsch zu hören hat mich nun überrascht. ^^
Als ich in Tokyo war, hat mich allerdings (hobbybedingt) eigentlich nichts mehr wirklich überrascht. Wenn man sich lang genug auf TH-cam rumtreibt, wird einem eigentlich alles, was einen überraschen könnte, "unter die Nase gerieben"...gerade, was Tokyo angeht.
Und was ich auch gemerkt hab:
Man stumpft mit der Zeit irgendwie ab. Wenn man Cuddle-Cafes, Maid-Cafes oder Love Hotels bereits kennt, dann überrascht einen ein Katzen- oder Hasen-Cafe auch nicht mehr wirklich. Selbst dann, wenn man diese noch nicht kennt.
Was ich aber witzig fand, war, dass ich auf die ein oder andere Weise relativ oft auf Deutschland gestoßen bin. Bei Anime und Manga merkt man ja die Beziehung schon, die Japan und Deutschland haben, deswegen hats mich nicht überrascht...allein schon, wenn man sich Shingeki No Kyojin anschaut...aber ich fands trotzdem witzig. ^^
Es ist dann halt doch noch etwas anderes, wenn man sowas in Tokyo auf der Straße merkt...etwa durch Restaurants...oder Passanten, die mit einer deutschen Uniform rumrennen. Und einmal ist mir sogar jemand aufgefallen, der kein Tourist war, der aber trotzdem deutsch gesprochen hat.
Somit...man weiß es zwar...deswegen war ich nicht überrascht...aber zwischen Wissen und Erleben ist dann doch noch ein Unterschied. ^^
btw:
Ein anderer Ort, wo man auch nach öffentlichen Mülleimern suchen kann, sind Parkanlagen. Im Hibiya-Park findet man beispielsweise alle 20-30 (oder meinetwegen 50) Meter Mülleimer.
I’m surprised that nobody commented on the yaoi cafe, or apparently there’s also restaurants where ladies sit on the table spread legged with see through undergarments.

great you speak german too, thats definitely your mother tounge I can hear it quite clearly,
natto isnt that bad, i know lots of things that are worse like cumin or cartilage from meat, i gag immediately when either of the two enters my mouth. Natto just tastes bad on its own, if you add the sauce that you like,it tastes unique but not bad.

I don't understand the German language but many German are here.
日本では自転車のベルは「どけや！」と聞こえる人がいるので、殆ど鳴らさないで超徐行です。歩道をお借りしている立場なので。

Japanの2番目のaの発音が気になる。「ア」と「エ」の中間音です。
I think from watching these videos, I'd have been surprised by something that always kinda vexed me, "OK, how do Japanese folks eat noodles with chopsticks without making noises? " (Basically in my culture that's indelicate.) "Oh, OK, that's not a problem." :)
I don't know how they do it in Japan. But in Canada if I order noodles at a Japanese restaurant I do the same as eating spaghetti with a fork, and just twirl it around. Works for me.

キャットさん、いつも見てますよ。インタビューのメインは東京ですね。
自転車のベルは基本的に歩行者を退かすために鳴らしたらダメだと日本では教わるよね。
それに、年齢や自転車用レーンは別として自転車は車道を走るのが規則だから、歩道で歩行者に警鐘を鳴らす事態になった時点で自転車側が悪いと思う。（確か法律でもあったような？）
でも、最近ではウーバーイーツの自転車が歩道走ってることも多くてある種の功罪だと感じます。
「日本は綺麗」って言われるのは気分が良い一方で、海外の観客席を掃除した事により「掃除する人の仕事を取っているじゃないか！」と言われる難しい一面もありますよね
何が正解かは分からないけど、海外でわざわざ掃除して「日本人のモラル」をアピールする必要があるのかどうか…
しかし日本人は「何かしてあげたい、良く思われたい」と思う思想が強いので掃除に関しても悪く受け取らないでほしいのです。
それは同時に普段言いたいことも言えないけど行動として「日本人としての誇りを持っている」と言う裏返しなのかもしれません
あと外国の方を見てしまうのは8割型は「可愛い」や「格好良い」と言う目線だと思います
「うわ、外人だわ」なんて変な目線では見てない方が殆どです
それを証拠に困ってる時は日本の皆さんは助けてくれますよね

納豆ね。日本人である自分も子供の頃、中々食べらんなくて。でも、その内慣れ出して、今では美味いと。 以前、あるロシア人留学生と知り合いになって、その人はベジタリアンで、納豆が大好きと言っていた。毎日食べてると。体に凄くイイと。 それにはちょい驚いたというか。 それと、ゴミ箱の件だけど、日本では自分で出したゴミは持ち帰って処分して下さいという文化になってきて、それでポイ捨てがかなり減ったと思う。 自慢じゃないけど、自分は道路に落ちてるタバコの吸い殻とか拾って帰って、自宅のゴミ袋に捨ててる。贖罪の意味もあんだけど。そういう人って自分だけじゃないと思う。日本人にはそういう人が結構居るというか。
最後のやつ、納豆は日本人でも意外と好き嫌い分かれるんだよなー。俺もちっちゃい時は嫌だった。ずっと食べてたら大好きになった。
I don't understand why people are surprised by superior toilets that have features that just make sense and should be the defacto standard world wide... As soon as I get the money, I'm buying a conversion kit to turn my stupid American toilet into a Japanese one since Toto sells kits to do it here in North America.

so one line : Toilets in Japan are the main issue for foreigners, from Germany to USA; what ever, grab a shovel (you know like camping shovel) and visit the bushes right outside the hotel.

Zodie: In standard german yes, but in some dialect it's totally fine. "I mecht gern" to me, sounds like south germany or austria.
