Hello saw your comment come up through the notifications but when I clicked it, it wouldn't generate whatever comment you replied under. I live in Philadelphia not to far from you an I get by fine as a single adult. I wouldn't rent a one bedroom apartment in nyc $2000 plus. I also wouldn't live in nyc. My organization would in crease my salary to reflect the cost of living in nyc. Per Philadelphia 38k is more than enough to live off of if you make it work. I rent a 1 bedroom apartment for 800 a month. Many people have been moving down to Philly from NYC because it's alot cheaper. Which will make everything else go up eventually. However if I lived in NYC off my salary and j couldn't find a studio id consider splitting with roommates. It would be annoying but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. In cities like NYC, LA, Seattle the cost of living is beyond even a liveable wage. Landlords have to raise rents to make what they can't off tenants who can't be evicted and aren't paying to new tenants to make the difference so you're not just paying for yourself but your also paying for the other guy in a sense.

I decided to leave my warehouse job in May to commit to a career that I'd put off for years, thinking it would come eventually on its own. Stayed at my family's with no unemployment benefits, living solely on saved money. I'd cook my meals, lock myself upstairs, and do personal work on my computer every day.
While family is out having fun, the kids would come over and ask why I stayed home all the time. My folks wanted me to pursue other options instead of chasing something that never produced results in the past. After all, life only gets harder and family won't be around forever.
In the end, I got two offers, both of which would double my income, and my career is in art. I was flown out for an interview, all expenses paid, and the guys told me to my face how much they valued my work. I put up with the shame because I wanted a better life for myself in the short term. For me, it had nothing to do with "not going to work" or being "lazy". I just knew my worth and knew where my strengths were, and I decided to act.

He somehow can't comprehend how labor pay has stagnated since the 1950's yet his self-help program has helped him become incredibly wealthy. If companies want people back to work so badly, the laws of capitalism say they should increase their pay and benefits -- after all, billions are being spent bailing out these same corporations.

I started having breathing issues at night but had been diagnosed with sleep apnea years ago so I didn't think much of it. I started getting worse. I would have terrible edema and be bed bound for days. I was rushed to the the hospital on a muggy August day and diagnosed with kidney failure.
I've been on dialysis ever since.
Needless to say, I missed so much work that they fired me so I have to go on disability. I burned through my savings and am just barely holding on to the house I'm renting. I would give anything to be able to work but I can't. I can't even put into words how much I want my job back. I wish I was able bodied enough to work. My current unemployment benefits get me to about twenty percent of my precovid income. There are probably more people in this boat than you think. Anyone who believes we aren't fighting to get back to a reasonable pay needs their head examined. Unfortunately what I'm hearing is when things really open up my old job may be outsourced to India.... I've been submitting applications for the past year and haven't found a job that pays even 40 an hour. But I guess everyone would like me to shut up and wait a table after paying five figures for a college degree and twenty years of experience managing multi million dollar projects. I'm not against doing something new but I'm too old and don't have the time to start from the bottom again. The "career fair" I went to this week was only looking for entry level workers. Being a student of anything worth studying (STEM fields in particular) requires concentration and head-down work, not to mention lab time and reading. Where is anyone going to find 40 hours to work in the middle of all that? Zero sleep? This is even worse. I would have no issue if the gov't wanted to provide some funds to capable students who major in useful fields, but demanding that someone work and study full time is not realistic by any stretch of the imagination. And with the gov't providing no incentive to work under the current incompetent leadership, this scenario is not likely to pop up too often anyway.

@@blackonblack...9244 why should anyone WANT to work? Life is supposed to be about enjoyment with one another and happiness. Not phone calls, emails, deadlines, manual labor and policy memos. Why should we assume that just because this was how it was always done, that it's the best way? Why shouldn't we as a society come together and create a happier, healthier, stronger people that actually care and provide for each other? Why should you make money for someone else just to be able to eat today? Isn't that barbaric?

40 hours is fine. But some people have to work way more hours to make ends meet. And that's for people who can do it. Some people cannot juggle a full time job and school (and other commitments) . So if you can, that's good and I hope you're taking care of yourself.

I don't get how some companies allow people to work over 40 hours a week because that cost them lots of money for overtime work. Unless, you meant people who work multiple jobs.

Having a daily grind, being treated as just a number and like a peasant isn't living a life. No time to view the sunshine outside and to make memories with family...that's a HUGE LOSS. I'd rather live on less.

Even without children, I'd love to have a partner/spouse where one of us didn't have to work so we don't have to spend our weekends taking care of household chores and running errands. Pay a livable wage and people will come back. I love all of the mom and pop restaurants near me bitching about labor when they’re paying minimum wage. People can go down the street and make 15-20/hr at amazon, walmart, target, etc.
