Well it was a anti-election not really a pro-election, that seem to be a trend everywhere these days... which is fairly understandable given that we have yet to recover globally from the pandemic, wars, massive movement of people, climate crisis etc. There's so many catastrophes out there it's hard to feel anything but negative about the political class since regardless of what you value the most there's always something to say "not enough" about. Few things in the world right now really gives a cause for optimism, except to see a change of the faces on TV by voting out the previous government... at this rate it will be the same next cycle.
@magnuscarlsson9969 The previous time in 2019, they voted on Brexit either to get it done, delay it long enough for a second referendum or to tear up Article 50.
@magnuscarlsson9969 agreed. But what's truly demoralizing about this successive Labour government is that their chief principle is still to protect the narrow interests of the donor classes. One could argue that that rampant inequality is one of the driving forces behind so many of the other problems.
This once again confirms it, and the quote has to be updated: To quote Michael Brooks: "It’s not a complex issue. That’s the big thing. It’s super simple. There’s one group that has enormous power. It’s the most powerful country in the Middle East. It’s backed by the United States. It acts on MULTIPLE other populations of people with total impunity and it’s never held accountable for anything." R.I.P.
That's not a bug, that's a feature of neoliberal agenda. If you can destabilize countries all over the world so that refugees leave them and come here, you can use that as a pretext clamp down on your own population while militarizing the border and blaming poor people that you screwed in the first place for the reason you're doing it The system works.
This post-election disappointment was so very predictable, Starmer has poor political instincts and, whether this incarnation of Labour is successful or not, he was never the guy to raise temperatures or cause great excitement
Hospital appointments still being cancelled !Change has not begun! He should resign, change has begun for labour with more freebies! I really do despair for our future in he UK under this government.😢🇬🇧
I'm beginning to think that his mouth is being controlled by someone or something way bigger than one person is capable of understanding. Why was a dog on that's life many moons ago saying this....crazy...weird...but must be a link...😮😮😮😮 must laugh or your crying
Pity Starmer restricted the thinking ability of the British public to only domestic issues. What about 'CHANGE' in our complicity with genocide? Or would that have dried the Labour party funding sources up considerably? Starmer should have explained how innocent people must have felt in Lebanon when their pagers etc blew up in their hands, due to our so called ally Israel packing them with explosives. Not a mention and children died yet again! Domestic issues pale into insignificance when we tune into the suffering of those in both Gaza and Lebanon. "Pulling back from the brink" needs all western 'governments' withdrawing support from Israel in every way. Not a few faint words at a desperate party conference.
Nice suit, love the glasses, love Starmer's retro Brezhnev era Soviet Union party hack look. But no match for Rachel Reeves authoritarian Ayn Rand 1930's Bob hairstyle. All seems so appropriate somehow!?
Is it true that Starmer went to Washington last week with a diplomatic case in order to get permission for the use of Storm missiles into Russia only for the Pentagon to say no.
You don't mess with Russia like you would with Argentina, Bosnia, Iraq, or Libya. It's a superpower. It's why we had a cold war for 45 years with the USSR instead of all out war.
Truer than you think I’ve was told by a Labour consultant and party member “we need to look after our own first” and “Thatcher was right” hearing Starmer invoking housing for the veterans is all very Tommy Robinson.
Starmer now addresses Labour Party members as “conference” and has ditched the party tradition of ‘comrades’. A small point but says a lot about where he stands😡
I'd like to see a shift from saying 'earn' to 'are paid' for some of these high 'earners' - earn to me implies that it's deserved or through merit, and kind of implies that if you don't earn as much you are less deserving.
That's why the speech is an hour, precisely so that people don't watch it and realize that he said nothing for an entire hour. That way they can pretend it actually has a meaningful difference. The system works
I just had a thought about US military that I know of and because they are about my ripe age, I can't believe they are OK with what we/Israel are doing in the name of the United Sates of America
Starmer's speech reminds me of the one Theresa May made on her first day in Downing Street (where she spoke a lot of dealing with systemic inequality). To sum up, and to use Aaron's own terminology, a lot of dissonance (i.e. some perfectly admirable ambitions, in theory, which have not been mirrored by actions).
Its not only about the gifts recieved! But policy announcements too! Much of it was gross!!! Both Keir and Reeves love Thatcher anyway. Admitted it! Can you tell? 😂 oh god...That Killing Joke song called '80s' never seemed so fitting 😂 brilliant tune. TH-cam it!
Interesting chat tonight supervening on tonight program. Some were talking about the sausage/hostage slip. I reckon a behavioural linguist could tell us if this was a real slip, a deliberate act or a meaning metaphor slip, like a Floydian Slip. Is it indicative of something? is it natural physical or meaningful intentional or revealing. I made the metaphor of the Tins of food on the 19th Century doomed Franklin Expedition to find the North West Passage. In which the lead leached (got it now) into the food and drove the sailors mad they reckon. its a metaphor for "its not what it says on the tin" of course. but with a old metaphor for vampires and leaches. I also referenced the film Death Line (1972) i so gory i have never been able to get past the first half hour. had a go in the late 70's as a teen and another go last night. I just posted the following to a thread I am doing on another TH-cam Channel. OK so i reckon by now only lunatics and the already initiated are still reading this. That's how what you are talking about works right. We are in the inner sanctum. Down at the 99th floor of the basement, the VIP area of Studio 54. Or the movie about the stranded survivors of the Chilean Air Crash of the 70's. what's important is the differences here the later focuses on the way they made a religious ritual to close the context of what they were "forced" to do. They were Catholics. Kant said how we treat animals "effects" has a bearing on how we treat humans. The practices are not distinct but related. are they causal metaphorical or accidental slippages that need to be separated Categorically. Peter Singer use rights and harm to "extend" them equivalently to animals. We experiment on animals because they are like humans in some useful way. He views the practice of following universal rights as not charity but obligation. Criminal psychologists claim that you can predict serial killers from the way they treat animals badly as children. In medieval Paris they put an animal on trial. I think Darnton thought the Paris cat massacre was "connected" to the "Terror" of the French revolution. Have you got it now? Considering Starmer got let's vote than Corbin did in either election. Shouldn't be surprising how fast his popularity has Plummeted.
