    Now that Bungie and Activision have split, do you think we’ll keep getting content like the forges and the reckoning? Or do you think things will improve? Also, bonus question, would you prefer having 2 DLC drops per year, like “CoO and Warmind? For 5 bucks extra we got WAY more content, I’d like to hear your thoughts.
    Also… I completely forgot to talk about the “Izanagis Burden” quest, because I genuinely forgot that it even existed!

      They'll definitely improve. Unlike most other studios. Bungie does actually listen. Biggest example is Season of Opulence. The annual pass imo is way better than the expansions we got last year.

      Or crucible maps,
      Or trials like they promised would (take a break)
      And the fact that over 50% of the exotics in this annual pass were d1 weapons.
      Oh yeah and 90% of the weapons from menagerie were reskins (drang Mida mini tool, eyasluna etc.)
      And holy fuck every single quest in this game has been the same boring monotonous content, can we get any variety ffs?
      It’s always go generate orbs of light,
      /get 200 headshots/kills/lost sectors/strikes.
      Like holy fucking shit bungie seriously has a HUGE issues with reusing old content and being super fucking boring with quest design, I could literally design better quests...
      Like honestly it’s either me getting bored of this franchise or getting very annoyed with it.
      Annoyed at the fact that it took 3 or so years for bungie to make destiny 2 destiny 1 year 3 again lol... this game really needs to fucking innovate because we’ve been doing the same Shit since the taken king.
      Bungie needs to take notes some from better developers like CD project red and such. Idk what the fuck has been going on with this franchise

      YoBoyAdrian but strikes literally mean nothing... they are fun the first time but then you gather a list of strikes which are just painful to play and hope you don’t run into them when in the playlist, they have literally no loot and the only reason to do them is for powerfuls/ pinnacle weapons. Compared to the forge that has a mich better structured loot system that will stay relevant to an extent until a completely reworked weapon system comes out. People complained about the casualness of y1 and bungie gave us a grind.

    I personally thought my money was well spent and I got more out of it in the annual pass than most other games I've bought. I'm going to respond to each section as you go over them:
    Black armoury: I personally really liked the forges and unlike what you said they do have enough differences in mechanics (for me at least) to keep each interesting. I agree about the quests though, those suck balls. Also yes we need to be able to launch them from the director, although me playing on PC the load times arent as much of a problem and it doesn't take nearly as long to get into the game. The raid I also agree with you on, was pretty sick. Also you say the last word quest does not count as extra content then you complain about it taking you too long to do. I thought it was a huge step up from the Thunderlord quest and exactly what an exotic quest should be like (my opinion).
    Season of the Drifter: Opposite opinion to you, I actually really enjoyed the way Reckoning worked and looked. But I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE anything to do with gambit. I want to bash my head into the wall any time I hear the word gambit. I hate how I'm forced to play Gambit Prime if I want to grind out armour in the Reckoning, and I hate how the armour is FOR gambit. Also wish the drop rate on weapons were better for reckoning. Also I agree the thorn quest wasnt as good as the last word quest but I still really enjoyed it. Again, its how I want all exotic quests to be like.
    Plus the Xur bounties also kinda sucked but the lore afterwards was sick af for a lore nerd like me. Overall this season had some pretty sick lore.
    Season of Opulence: I agree, Menagary is sick and I hope we get more like it in the future especially with the feedback on the chest farm under their belt. I have already expressed how I feel about exotic quests and nothing changes with the Truth and Lumina. Kinda surprised you didnt talk about the tribute hall, which is really sick and awesome but fine whatever, I guess not mentioning something sick af helps your point that this is a scam but whatever.
    Conclusion: You said you arent including things free to all, things that were free to all that you listed as part of the paid experience in forsaken included the crucible maps and bows (as the vow bow was free to all). As well as when shadowkeep launches the dreaming city, tangled shore and all of gambit will be free to all as well, and really free as in part of the free to play game. Now for the crucible, lets just say....... I'm pissed off. Shadowkeep is supposed to bring a bunch of new pvp changes and stuff, but honestly even if they are amazing changes I'm still going to be pissed that as a pvp main, I paid money for the side of the game that I play only when I dont want to play pvp. Mind you with the way supers currently work as well as the eon it took them to fix lord of wolves me not wanting to play pvp is something that happens more often than not in year 2. Enough for me to honestly say, I enjoyed year 1 pvp better, no actually, vanilla d2 pvp more. I like the gunplay, I don't like instant win buttons like supers and lord of wolves. Pvp for me is running away from one super only to get sandwiched by two more supers, then being killed off spawn by either a super or heavy. I hear the problem is worse on PC and I might want to go on xbox to test that. But OH MY GOD like jesus, pvp sucks right now. With strikes you lightly touched on, I also agree 100%.
    MY Conclusion: The annual pass was pretty good, maybe a bit too much but I don't regret buying it. I'm very happy we will be able to buy each season separate from now on instead of all up front because I would have never bought season of the drifter regardless of the thorn quest (the only reason I would buy it) It will also force Bungie not to make any more "season of the drifters" because I'm sure they would like it if people actually bought their stuff. (most my friends would have passed on it too) Black armoury and Season of Opulence were well worth the money for me though, personally because I liked the forges more than you obviously did, and you could choose what weapon you could grind for (something you again didn't mention, doesnt work well for your point). And everything pve related in SoO is amazing. Raid-wise Scourge ranks up there with my fav raids (VoG, Kings Fall and Last Wish) and CoS ranks in the middle. I think a $25 price tag would have been better but since I've at least got a lot out of the lore of SotD I'm alright with the extra $10 PERSONALLY. The annual pass isnt a ripoff but just overpriced, and I think bungie knows this and that makes me happy going forward.
    I hope you get around to reading this

    Nah. Annual pass is a lot better than the season pass. Small drops of content throughout the year are a lot better than a huge dump every 4 months.
    Also, the raids this time around were infinitely better than the year 1 raids.

  • @tjdragon7993
    @tjdragon7993 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The purpose of the annual pass was mainly to introduce new items for people who already enjoy the basic content to grind for, while also adding a few new modes. You seem to think that the only meaningful content is new campaign missions, new raids, or activities with imaginative new mechanics, and while all of those things are great, new loot is also content even if you have to play the basic game modes to get it. Therefore, I disagree with your assessment that asking people to play the base game content that they already have, such as strikes, is somehow ridiculous.

  • @MAGNAVIX
    @MAGNAVIX 5 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Watched the whole video, and I have some qualms. The presentation was fine for the most part, but I'm not convinced, and I'd like to share why.
    1) You volley between two points that clash. "Time spent playing does not validate money spent on the game." That versus this. "Time is worth so much more than money, since money can be earned back." These two points contradict. If time is more valuable than money, and the annual pass offers (through admitted repetition) hundreds of hours of time spent playing, why would one feel like it wasn't worth it? Hopefully you understand my confusion with using these two sentiments together.
    2) You state several times that the annual pass caused us to replay content that "wasn't fun the first time". This makes you sound like someone that doesn't enjoy Destiny at all, and is flaming the annual pass from the perspective of a non-player or non-fan. Why would you like the additions if you didn't like the base? That whole attitude weakens your point.
    Ultimately I agree with the lack of depth in the forge activity and with all of Season of the Drifter, but I felt my money was well spent before this video and I still feel that way after. I don't mean to attack you or your video, just to discuss. If you end up reading this, thank you for your time.

    • @michaelmegson2778
      @michaelmegson2778 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those first 2 statements aren't mutually exclusive. Time spent doesn't validate money spent if you didn't enjoy how you spent that time and since time is more valuable than money he feels cheated out that time as well as his money. Given how repetitive the content is and how god damn long loading screens are I can't say I blame him for feeling that way.

    • @filippoorologio6777
      @filippoorologio6777 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dez Xanatos On your first point, time spent playing with content from the annual pass wasn’t worth it because the experience gained from doing so felt like that. There’s no point in spending money on content that would make one feel “like working at a job”, just as our man felt. as for you, you might have felt that playing, for example, the gameplay loop of gambit prime and reckoning fun, and that in its own right would be a worthwhile experience. But when it comes down to it, there is a likely majority of people that dislike gameplay like reckoning, forge, and maybe even menagerie. therefore, these pieces of content would be a waste of time and a waste of money, since one cannot obtain a proper experience.

  • @Subsistence_Sasquatch
    @Subsistence_Sasquatch 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    If this was like D1 and after a year of nothing, we got everything in the Annual Pass all at once at $35, I think this narrative would be different.
    I would rather have this than waiting a whole year for what's next. It seems many have forgotten what that was like. ~$10 a Season was well worth it. The intentionality of the Ada bounties evolved into the Chalice. The Forges evolved into the Menagerie. We've been seeing an upward trend. It's hard to say if that'll continue in Shadowkeep, the first piece of content without any Activision studios' fingers on the development and publishing, but we will see.
    Ultimately, I don't agree with many of your points but I understand them. It's been more "Destiny". After years of it, things are surely going to feel more monotonous than you remember them being in D1. The fact is, it's not entirely different. The "charm" of Destiny is simply diluting over time.

    On the exotic quests: Yes, the content was reused. Not going to defend that. But they weren't all bad if you were doing them as they came out because they changed how everyone was playing the game. This was most noticeable in PvP. For Lumina, everyone suddenly running Rose was a great shakeup to the norm. Letting your teammates die for the medals for Thorn and watching everyone try to bait everyone else was good fun. Invaders dancing to let the other team get their medals was amusing. It doesn't justify the entirety of the quests, but the entire community working on the same thing at once and interacting with one another differently was a fun experience that made me enjoy parts of the grind.

    I pre-ordered Forsaken and the annual pass 2 months before release.
    I've only beaten "The Last Wish" once, and quit after achieving that.
    I've probably *AT MOST* 15 hours of D2 since last November.
    This is coming from a guy that has logged 800(I know, "rookie numbers".) hours in d1, and 452 in d2.
    Shadowkeep(?) is the first dlc I haven't bought. It'll probably be decent, but I think I'm done with Destiny. It's not because of the lackluster story, or the amount of grinding.
    It's because of how fucking slow everything is.
    Menus are slow AF to load in.
    Logging on is Fucking slow.
    "Fast Travel" is FUCKING SLOW.
    Not to mention the amount of times you have to go to the Tower for a quest, then have to go to another PLANET to talk to some guy then come back. FUCK THAT SHIT.
    Tbf I've been spoiled with how some recent games are getting better at load screens etc. The point still stands though.

    So here’s the thing...compared to literally ANY other “season pass” this is insane value. Even if you hate season of the drifter and throw all the content out the window there, the exotic additions alone are more than what most other game’s passes offer. So I have to completely disagree with you, but that’s ok. :) Opinions are opinions, we can all think different things. :)

      The exotics additions?? What fucking exotic additions,
      70% of exotics after black armory are d1 exotics, they are content I’ve already paid for before.
      50% of the exotics in destiny 2 right now are d1 exotics. I didn’t pay for fucking old content. When I empty my wallet so much like I have been on this franchise I don’t know about you but I really expect new content. I don’t wanna keep using old stuff and doing old things.
      I’ve spend over 300$ on this franchise and I still feel like I’m still playing destiny 1, this game is not innovating enough because its entire fan base are honestly dick suckers. Nothing bungie ever put out since the taken king has been innovative. I’m not going to keep paying for this. I seriously don’t get how so many people are blind to this fact, at least some people out there see it.
      Other live service games like SWB2 and Fallout76 release NEW meaningful content for FREE, destiny is selling old content for a high prices and people keep buying them. I personally don’t understand the logic at all

    Rewards matter.
    Forsaken brought 4 unique sets of loot. Tangled Shore, Dreaming City, Last Wish, Gambit. The Annual Pass brought more unique sets of loot. Forges, scourge, reckoning, Menagerie, crown of Sorrows. These are not always as large as the Forsaken drops, but brought new perks and mods to the sandbox.
    Forsaken brought in 8 new exotic weapons, Annual Pass brought 7 new exotic weapons. Though, the annual pass was shorter on new exotic armor, I'll admit that much. Forsaken had like 12 new pieces, Annual pass had 6 as a mix of old and new.
    Raids and their loot are the best part of destiny. Both parts of the pass with raids had unique loot. Shattered throne was an interesting proof of concept, but failed to deliver exclusive loot like Scourge and Crown do.
    Annual pass and Eververse revenue likely bolstered the investment in live events. These two things are not isolated. The best year for live events was the year the community paid more.
    The number of gameplay modes, weapons, armor, exotic quests, new mods, new weapon and armor perks suggest the pass succeeded in delivering value

As a solo player Season of Opulence had nothing to do but Managerie. I will not be returning to Destiny anymore regardless of how good Shadowkeep is. We all know we'll have to keep replaying old content just to get some new stuff and I absolutely cannot fucking stand Y1 content. Y1 of D2 was such a trash heap in terms of content and now almost 3 years later we're still playing majority shitty Y1 content...Bungie is so lazy and/or wastes time in stupid exotic quests and then demands cash for us to keep playing old shitty content while making the new content die shortly after it releases. My time back to Destiny was short, the Annual Pass was trash, I feel like the people who told me the game was in a good place were just fanboys who play the game regardless, and I can't play D2 anymore. 90% of the game is trash, so I can't be bothered to play the other 10% just to be forced to play the other 90% over and over and over and over and over.

    Honestly I had to leave Destiny 2 for 7 months before coming back to try season of Opulence. The annual pass content was lazy, uninspired and boring, the haunted forest was the same. Horde Mode with a ball and one round Gambit was and is half assed at best. The only thing I enjoyed was Scourge of the past Raid Lair (Yes that's what is is.) Crown of Sorrows was terrible considering it is literally one mechanic spanned over 4 encounters. The ONLY good thing to come from it was Menagerie pre nerf now it's a ghost town.

  • @stevenevets2009
    @stevenevets2009 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the issue with activities like forge and reckoning is that they cant make them too mechanical or complex because a lot of players dont aspire to be better or make fireteams, solo queuing limits what they can do. Menagerie works fine becauae theres enough players to carry the laggers. Otherwise the forums fill up people saying theyre solo players and things are unobtainable. Like if you had a gun that was like 4 man a raid or 2 man shattered throne for the last step that would be amazing but no one would do it. I dont know how to make things difficult. No matter what happens, wether its more adds, underlevelled or more mechanics, i constantly hear people just saying "artificial difficulty". Hopefully the riff on menagerie.

  • @cravensbergen94
    @cravensbergen94 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I gotta say, I'm...surprised at how many people I'm seeing in the comments were satisfied with their purchase.
    I agreed with most of the stuff in the video, most of the stuff that was paid for really...really wasn't worth it. The season pass was shifty because I would have gladly paid a reduced price to only have Season of Opulence, which I thought was...good, decent, not stellar by a long shot. Black Armory was trash, had zero interest in it and thought the forge quests was really mind bendingly boring & unimaginative. Season of the Drifter was a snoozer as well but I think the Bungie split was being announced around this time so morale was on the upswing even though there was really...NO content in my opinion. Reckoning wasn't worth my friends time either.
    I think maybe what some of the people in the comments are thinking is that they still enjoyed their -time- in the past year. Like, if you look at the list of stuff we got for the money, it's trash dude. An objective analysis of the price-per-content makes it look like a terrible investment. But on the flip side, if was necessary to stay in the community to have access to all the newest developments in the community like loot grinding & stuff, & while I hated the ever living sh** out of the Thorn and Last Word quests, once they were done, yeah...I did flex on my friends a little bit & it was a little cool.
    I hold the opinion that fine, whatever, I had a few good moments during the span of time I paid for the Annual Pass. Like, cool thanks. I reserve the right to hold the belief that it STILL wasn't worth it, & I can still play while complaining all i want & I won't filter anything just because I have to appreciate what Bungie is doing during this period of transition, which is the only other thing i can think of as another point of reference for the cost. It is clear that Bungie's new a-la-carte DLC system could only be tabled after Activision took off.
    tl;dr I can understand the blowback & the Bungie defenders & it's mostly fine but I personally agree that, if it wasn't for the fact that there was all the Activision stuff being drained lately, this Annual Pass was objectively not worth it. Very glad that we'll be able to pick and choose our own DLCs once the migration to Steam is fully complete.

    Honestly, I think Bungie catering to the community and their whims is the main thing holding Destiny back. People complained gun quests were too easy, so they made them harder. People complained they were too hard, to they made them grindy. People complained that the story missions were too short, so they made them longer. People complained they were too long, so they took them out entirely. All of the Annual Pass stuff was just catering to the community based on feedback from year 1. I play the game almost religiously, and I think the community's complaints should be taken with a grain of salt. Not ignored though. Bungie is notorious for just giving in to the whims and cries of the people who hardly play the game and almost ignoring the dedicated population

    In my opinion season of opulence was great, which seems to be most people’s opinion. I loved the menagerie and the chalice mechanics. However black armory got old quick and the only reason I’d ever go into a forge is for a kill clip/rampage kindled orchid. Niobe labs in itself was cool, but that’s about it. Jokers wild was great for people who enjoy gambit. There was some really interesting lore and new mechanics in gambit with the new armor, but that’s it. if you don’t like gambit then it’s not worth it. Me personally, i like to collect everything the game has to offer, so if looking back on it I would have still wanted the annual pass. However I have noticed that the annual pass is generally not well received other than season of opulence. If your not a collector, then overall I would say the annual pass is for the most part rather boring and not worth it.

    My main issue with the annual pass was that it should have been split up into 3 seasonal passes at about 10 bucks each, but they knew that it was going to be mostly lack-luster, so they forced you to go in on all 9 months of the pass. Also, is it even really an annual pass if you only get 9 months of new content?
    I would agree that Activision's hand probably played heavily into the quality of the annual pass. Activision's insistence on Bungie releasing something new every 3 months might have forced Bungie to do something like this. I will also be checking out Shadowkeep, but I am also very tired of the ups and downs with this franchise. Shadowkeep is probably Bungie's last chance at this point. They now have no one else to blame but themselves if things go badly going forward.

    The annual pass started off really badly imo, the fact that a max power guardian had to grind to start the new content put me off for months. The forges were fun at first, but got boring quite quickly. The raid and Niobe labs were amazing, I enjoyed it very much. Reckoning sucks, gambit prime is terrible because of it. Xur bounties were cool, but we're boring to complete. Menagerie is the best activity yet. The raid I haven't completed yet, but seems very boring. The annual pass had great premises, like the forges, but fell short because of their crap gameplay. If the gameplay in the exotic quests and the new horde modes was much more interactive and varied it would've been perfect. £20 is the price I see it at on most places, which is fine imo. However I am glad I bought it as you could clearly tell each season they were improving the content, you could tell there was genuine effort put in to make these good. It also provided me with alot of time to burn which was needed for me.

    Honestly, I feel as though this video didn't need to be made. No hate to you or your ideas, but I feel as though most people know now that up until this newest season, the pass was extremely lack luster. Everyone knows that forges weren't designed well and that the season was basically "give me money" the season, and that Season of the Drifter made some okay changes to Gambit that pretty much took out the need for Gambit Prime (Speeding up matches, giving better rewards, ect.) other than Reckoning, which was a boring gamemode that lasted a whole of two weeks before people got bored of it. SoO was by far the best of the three, but ask anyone and they'll tell you after they fixed the chest glitch, no one played it much more. Trubute hall is enjoyable, but one hell of a grind that most people don't want to put their time into. I know a bunch of people aren't even going for the Bad Juju catalyst just because it's too costly on mats. I also just want to talk about the fact that the exotic guns for the season were hand cannons (Except for Bad Juju and Izanagi's burden) I know they're in the meta, but people need to have other types of weapons to enjoy, because atm the only auto rifles I barely see at the moment are Suros and the raid auto. Again, no hate to you, but I feel like this was mostly common knowledge to most people that paid for it.

    I think its definetly an inprovent over the old 2 expansion sistem.
    And while i didnt got it at full price, i think that 35 dlls is a bit too much for what it is.
    But i have faith that the new expansion pass is going to be better than this one, so it might be worth at full price.

    *Contraverse warlocks are whining about oem and middle tree void hunter*
    And here we are, the only truly broken exotic is contraverse. In season 8, when hunters were op and titans also had a cheese 1 punch mechanic, and things were almost balanced-arc hunter eas slightly more imbalance than handheld, while handheld compared to other cheese builds is too strong

    Zero hour is available for everyone but you need to be carried if you don't have forsaken

    I'd rather get an expansion over an annual pass kind of thing it's like the same price of ROI except no story and cool theme for the whole thing

    Time spent on the game absolutely justifies the price, think about it. For 60$ minimum i can enjoy a theme park for a day or for 35$ I can play destiny for 3 seasons while it gives me a reason to replay content I would never have gone back to. Old guns coming back is a good thing, you seem to dislike this but not everyone is d2 played d1. The new exotics are awesome and I still use most of them. I have to say that I respect your opinion but I disagree wholeheartedly. I'm still liking the video, it was well made and no misinformation was said.

    The time wasting will continue especially now that they're going to try really hard to sell ranks xp in the last 4 weeks of each battle pass. Oh, and they're weaponizing FOMO by removing paid for content. Bungie is now a shell of their former selves. People like you Ren are hooked and going to buy this crap anyways, lol

    I know this isn't in the context of the video but can you do Undertale Genocide Run video ? It is very unlike the other paths.

    $35 for as much hours of content as I played in season of opulence alone is a bargain. I played the season pass for hundreds of hours, and at least 25% of that was new content. Just because forsaken had more content doesn’t mean annual pass was a rip off. And imo, you’re wrong. Time spent in a game is a valid reason for price. You’re paying money for a service. You probably pay 20 dollars to see a movie or more for only 2-3 hours, while destiny you pay more, but get so much more. And even as you say in your video about season of opulence, they did a lot right and I feel like after you made those points and started talking about the pass as a whole you started ignoring those same points.

    Even worse than the quality of the annual pass it’s the quality of D2 itself. The art style feel and music of the game was just much more grandiose and grounded, less fantasy and cartoonish. The pvp gameplay was just straight more fun in D1 (on console, D2 on pc is a much closer experience to D1). Strong elemental burns made nightfall and strikes tougher and made gear selection more important. POE while far from perfect is still the best horde mode put into the franchise. Raids and raid loot were on another planet of quality (with the rare exception of something like 1k voices) and few new D2 exotics ever came close to the status of D1 classics like Hawkmoon and Gjallahorn. Damage-increasing perks dominate both the pve and pvp sanbox in d2 killing the variety of desirable rolls. Competitive is a sad substitute for trials (STILL MISSING) that most players grind just to get to 2100 and then abandon. Gambit is hated by pretty much everyone i know. I Would just like to start over with D3 and let this carcass of a game finally die
