    If anyone cares, another person that transitioned to a smoother, slower pull and made some insane gains in terms of weights is Pete Rubish. Pete is someone that used to "grip and rip" but has since started doing "smooth" pulls and has seen some significant strength gains. Yes PEDs help, but he was on PEDs before the change in technique and was making marginal gains.

    Herniated L5-S1 2 years ago performing Romanian deadlifts. I was stupid. The frequency I did them and the weight I was using was too much for my body to handle... Its a great exercise but it MUST be done with proper form and weight in order to avoid really bad repercussions. Nobody’s immune to injuries... take it easy

    I didn't even notice balloon guy till I came to the comments. I was engrossed in the sound tips being given to improve my deadlift. I have hurt my back being explosive off the floor because I wanted to increase my speed off the floor. Now I just embrace my slow start and crawl my way up on max pulls. Good job making this insightful vid.

  • @ColinDeWaay
    @ColinDeWaay 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can confirm trying to pull my deadlifts fast was a horrible idea. All that would happen is I would lock out my knees way too early and get out of position and I could never lock out a heavy weight. Stay in position! Great video guys.

    • @coen071993
      @coen071993 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Colin DeWaay I don't necessarily think that is true. To be fair I just think that is a bad movement pattern issue. I had the same issue but it was simply from not learning how to deadlift correctly from the start.
      Nowadays I have good form and I still pull fast. Lighter weights fly up fast and when it gets heavier my form sticks. That good form basically automatically causes a difficult deadlift to be slow off the floor.

    • @ColinDeWaay
      @ColinDeWaay 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      coen071993 you don’t want to pull slow for the sake of being slow you pull only as slow as necessary to stay in position. I got out of position by rushing it off the floor because locking my knees too early would get the weight off the floor faster.

    • @coen071993
      @coen071993 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Colin DeWaay I know. I had the same but after a long time doing good form I pull as fast as I can without breaking form. If it is actually too heavy I will just miss off the floor now. That is why I am saying I feel like it is more of a general form issue rather than just trying to pull fast being the issue.

    I have long torso and very short legs and short arms ... how should I deadlift, ? Conveniently or sumo??

    • @mirza6399
      @mirza6399 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on your mobility ! If you can bed your knees enough and keep your back stright at the same time and your arms can grab the bar correctly you can do conventional! But sumo would be better suited for you , it'll also keep your lower back safe.

  • @Jswizzle217
    @Jswizzle217 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Dude that first tip is so true! I missed 315 a week ago (I'm 140 and only been lifting for about 2 months) because I hyped myself way too much and tried to explode off the floor then missed it around my knees because I was off balance let the bar get too far away on my left side and started to lose my grip. Went back this monday and set up methodicaly and pulled slowly and more deliberately and banged out 3 reps at 315 like it wasn't a problem. Great tip!

    Oh man. This is my story. Im relearning my DL after hitting a plateau. I started by stepping away from conventional and starting to work on deficit, paused, sumo, and rack pulls. All with much lower weight. Ive been revisiting my conventional and although im far from my all time RM, i think im defijitely getting stronger. Getting the bar off the floor is a bitch but I am much more explosive on my lock out. This video was reassuring and motivating... The ego takes a toll when no PR's are on the medium term horizon...

    Sumo, wider feet so the height you lock out at is lower then conventional, barbell travels relatively less distance. Even tough if I'd be making gains sumo just the same as conventional. This why I would always want to PR or compete conventional.
